  1. Amazing , thanks so much . Also anything that you could find from Anne Hellers research as well.
  2. Would Cathy , Ellen , anyone have an idea which tapes I could find information on that would be helpful for Cathy ? The two Mimi Sutton ones and anything else ? I do have in my collection all of Anne Hellers research . That included hundreds of cassettes and also Barbara Brandens research which had hundreds as well. Thanks for any help here from anyone
  3. Ellen , thanks for the intro ! I did buy Barbaras archives , and since then I have expanded the archives in a huge way . I am working very hard on this project but for the last few years I have been focusing on simply buying , and collecting research on Rand and the history of Objectivism . I do have some upcoming news but I am not able to expand on the details right now . As for Cathy ........ I welcome you to the board , I have been reading this thread with great interest and I hope that you can get any and all of the answers that you need here and everywhere . I will do everything that I can to provide you with what you would like to see or hear .Cathy , I do have a tremendous amount of research which includes around 500 cassettes or so of interviews of Rand and people who knew Rand . I do have the Mimi Sutton tapes too . Sad to report , I have not yet converted the tapes but I am getting everything in a great archived system and I will report more here very soon . Marc
  4. Thanks for saying this. --Brant she has a very good friend in LA in Kerry O'Quinn Kerry is amazing , I missed him this time but last year the 3 of us went for lunch . Great man how he looks out for Barbara .
  5. How about some predictions for the very exciting first round : Minn- Chic Det- Anaheim SJ- Van LA-St L NYI-Pitt Ott- Mont NYR - Wash Tor - Bos I will pick ( drumroll please ) Chic , Det , Van , St L , Pitt, Ott , Wash , Bos ( sorry Daunce ) And we will keep picking series winners till the end ! 15 series , lets see who is the Objectivist/ hockey guru 2013 !!!!!!
  6. I did spend the afternoon with her recently when I was in LA back around 3 weeks ago. We had a lovely discussion about an assortment of topics. I have met few people in my life who are so intelligent at any age as Barbara is now . If I can be as sharp as Barbara is now ( I am 50 ) it would be a blessing , never mind in 30 years when I am 80 !
  7. Typhus, diphtheria, polio, ... It was normal for children to have measles, chicken pox, and rubella. No pPenicillin, no sulpha, in fact, medical science did not even exist because trials and peer review reporting were unknown or uncommon at best. Massingill poisoned people with radiator coolant in cough medicine (accidentally, of course). Birth control was illegal, not just the termination of pregnancy, but condoms. Diaphragms were unmentionable in many places, again, by law. Even teaching a woman about the fertility cycle was illegal.Racism was considered science, as was eugenics. (Although to be fair, it was the progressives who were worried about the pollution of the American race were the ones pushing to get birth control to the masses... which undercores the fact that your best chance for an intelligent conversation was actually with someone whom you would today regad as your political enemy.) None of your friends would be Jews. Jews knew to keep to themselves. Ivy League schools limited Jewish enrollments to 10% or fewer less they overwhelm the WASP lads. Coloreds also had their own separately unequal facilities. In 1920, the Ku Klux Klan marched in Washington DC without their hoods because they felt not incorrectly that they expressed the mainstream of America. I understand and appreciate what we lost, but they were not the glory days of the garden of Eden, and you would not want to go back there. (Though I agree about the engine room of the Titanic. I cried there, though not when Jack slipped under the waves, it was for the men who stood their sations, versus the cases today where the crew gets into rafts and abandons the passengers.) I very much enjoyed the pictures , thank you . This post though was simply wonderful and so many times I think about this when people write about " back in the day '', but could never write anything like this ! Amazing ! thanks ,
  8. I am hoping that Montreal meets Toronto 1st round , WHEN Toronto beats them that will be the the Stanley Cup right there. If they could win another round , then as they say .... who knows !!!! For those reading who are not from Montreal or Toronto , it is the same as the Bears Packers , Ohio State Michigan , Yankees Red Sox , Lakers Celtics , Ali Frazier , Bush Clinton ( ok , that one was stretching things ) .
  9. Congrats to your beloved Leafs ! I shall stand by you these playoffs ! Marc
  10. I heard Tara Smith speak in NYC a few years ago at an ARI auction where I bought some books and original contracts of Rands . She is a fantastic speaker and she was speaking about the left in academia . Not sure if its on YouTube or not . Thanks so much for the links ! I keep getting homework from you and I love it ! Go Flyers , go Leafs !
  11. I checked out Jimmy Wales and Wikipedia actually has a list of people too who were influenced by Rand which is interesting . Thanks Futurist now . Michael , thanks ! I am going to take a look see at that list which reminds me that there is also an amazing list in Marsha Enrights book . Michael and Mark , I very much appreciate the feedback on Ryan et al . I am not qualified enough to decide who should be on this list or not on the list and while I have just learned a lot by your posts , I plan on reading the research that was given to me on the topic of said people . I would like to enlighten myself to that and maybe I should have even thought about that before starting this thread . That being said I have no desire to debate anyone on " who should be on this list " . I am not qualified to in the least . I also do not wish to offend anyone on this amazing board . I would leave it up to any of the moderators to decide if they wish to delete someone from the list . Again , I respect the wonderful people here so my intentions are not to bother anyone . On a topic that I can debate anyone on though is the state of the Philadelphia Flyers and Ilya B . What would you say if I told you that he was their best player this year ? Hmmmmmm, when was the last time that the Leafs were in the playoffs and the Flyers were out . Please Mr . Snider , find us a goalie . Trade for James Reimer !
  12. Tim Thomas ? So are you telling me that I have been waiting 40 years for my beloved Flyers to find one goalie - Pelle Lindbergh RIP aside - and my most favorite owner in sports along with the Rooneys of course , could not even get an Objectivist super star goalie to play a few years for us ??????? Ouch , that is a dagger to my heart ,
  13. Thanks so much everyone so far ! Michael , thanks for the valuable insight and thoughts. I probably should think of a better way to phrase my request for this thread. People are always telling me that Atlas Shrugged or The Fountainhead " changed my life " , and I love having those discussions with people . The other day a person who is helping me with a marketing strategy for a hobby of mine told me that she read Atlas at 13 and it changed her life . Needless to say , I hired her for the job ! I am not really interested in qualifying if the person is an Objectivist , or simple loves Rand because of one book , I just want to know who - in the public forum - has actually been influenced by Her at one point in their lives. I love reading that Mark Cuban has read the Fountainhead numerous times . I love that Paul Ryan has openly said at one point that he expects , or insists that his staff reads Atlas . I only want to know who in the public has had this experience . Thank you again Thanks so much everyone so far for the help ! Marc
  14. Friends , I am asking for help to compile a list of the above who have openly stated that Rand had influenced them in some way . I think that if anyone in the future needs this list it could be effective to give a brief explanation of who the person is . In no particular order , I will offer a few who I am aware of . Thanks in advance for any consideration to help me . Mark Cuban , founder of Broadcast.com and current owner of the Dallas Mavericks NBA franchise. John MacKay , Whole Foods Ed Snider , owner of the Philadelphia Flyers ( my favorite hockey team ! ) Chip Wilson , Lululemon Peter Thiel , founder of Paypal Paul Ryan , ran for US VP
  15. I visited Chapman University last summer as I was invited to a We The Living exhibit . It was wonderful to see and I was told that the President was a huge Ayn Rand fan . Chapman is located in Orange County quite close to the ARI in Irvine , California . Not sure what courses if any they have on Objectivism.
  16. Congrats to all Boston fans ! Amazing playoffs, super finals
  17. Adam, wholeheartedly with you about the injuries. Hockey has always been tough, but the ideal of skill and speed and honour of Beliveau, Orr and yes even Gretzky is the real game to me. I tuned into WBZ Boston this pm. They obviously had an unaccustomed half hour to fill with hockey preview and barely knew what to say. The local sportsguy complained about the long haul back and forth from Vancouver, he was so tired! There was a cute vid of 3-year-olds learning to skate though, reminded me of my boys. We well might go to a game 7, just don't know. I hope, hope we'll see something a little, tiny bit transcendent of what we've seen so far this final. (goaltenders excepted, they have both been heroic). See you between the buzzers! Carol Way back when I said that I would be surprised if Boston won more than a game ! How wrong was I ? I have been watching hockey for 40 years and I cannot ever a team winning 3 at home ( combined score 5-2 ) and the other team winning three at home ( 16-1 as of the second period ) . Never seen anything like this playoffs either. Wow
  18. Congrats Adam, this is one of those win wins !
  19. Great anecdote. Fascinating, I thought (or assumed) that the salt thing was a Anglo-Saxon or Celtic (I had some very, very superstitious relatives). Didn't know it was in Russia too. I better go check on Bobby, just in case. Well here it is : Bos vs Vanc ! Should be a great series but I find it hard to believe that Boston has much of a chance. Figure they win 1 game maybe but very surprised if they win 2 games.
  20. Come on , we already agreed that the Attorney General should stay out of hockey n'est pas ? Wash down 3 zip to a team that has a 41 year old goalie ??????? Phily down 2 zip going to Boston for 2 games now ? Nash up 1 zip tonight in the first in danger of going up 2-1 in the series ? San Jose - Boston for the finals ?????????? Insane
  21. Thank you very much Kat for the opportunity to help . People like you are the true heroes. Marc
  22. Marc, is your dad by chance a philosophy professor who is also a big soccer fan? Sorry but no
  23. Yes indeed . And methinks that they won't win either.
  24. Sorry for my very late response but yes , they really do surprise me. Even tonight down 2 zip fast and now its all tied ....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. My hatred for Les Canadiens started way back in 79 after Philly won 2 cups back to back and then Montreal ruined the threepeat by sweeping them !!!! My son hates Montreal too, plus his ex-longterm girlfriend was a Montrealer - I don't think it was a big factor in their breakup but it sure didn't help any. Phillies are through - be benevolent! hhahhahahhhahahhah !!!!
