  1. If anyone here is interested, there is a website http://coreynahman.com which is like the "AP News" of the pharmaceutical world. Lots of late breaking news on the newest medicines and other pharmaceutical related industry news headlines. Neat stuff.
  2. I would probably be dead to day if it were not for penicillin. "The Mold In Dr. Florey's Coat" by Eric Lax is an excellent read on the story of penicillin.
  3. Good question Barbara. Let me re-phrase it; Which drug would you NOT want to live without?
  4. I am a huge fan of Mickey Spillane's (RIP) Mike Hammer novels. Does anyone know of any other authors who have detective or police heroes with the toughness, integrity, and balls akin to Mike Hammer?
  5. So, where are today's Walt Whitmans or Longfellows or Dickensons? I'v fallen in a loving rapture with the beauitful, meaningful, and epic poetry of yester-year, but what poets today continue and build upon the glorious poetic mastery of yesterday?
  6. Rich, I don't think that I have ever read free verse. Any recommendations?
  7. Kat, to be honest those deep fired Twinkies sound mmm mmm good. Question; can you substitute Chocodiles in place of Twinkies?
  8. I just read "Evangeline; A Tale of Acadie" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Wow. Such beauy and imagery and chivalry. Has anyone one else here this poem? Amazing stuff. Very uplifting and epic.
  9. reminds me of my diet when i smoked the pakalolo
  10. Be still my beating heart...literally.
  11. I love it when they do like 40 back flips and land 3 stories up on a tree branch.
  12. some of the kung fu battles in those old movies were awesome. almost beautiful to watch. which is one of the reasons why Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and the Matrix movies did so well.
  13. On a micro-scale; let's say that you live in a beautiful house on a few acres in a dirty, crime ridden area. Common sense would say to put up a protective gate so as not to have your property robbed or destroyed as well as to protect your family and friends from harm. Now, you still accept visitors and what not, but first you have them check in with the security guard at the front gate. I have nothing against Mexican and other immigrants coming to America, but the world is a dangerous place and precautions are necessary. Common sense safety controls help keep out the riff-raff, and separate the wheat from the tares. What's to stop a madman from bringing a dirty bomb across an undefended border?-hopefully it hasn't happened already; http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52018
  14. Is it just me, or were a lot of those old Kung Fu movies dubbed in English using the same voice-over actors again and again. I think that maybe there might have been a contract with one company. Nevertheless, growing up in Sacramento I looked foreward to the Saturday afternoon Kung Fu matinee. Ah, the good old days.
  15. BTW, another hilarious comedic show is Mystery Science Theater 3000. Has anyone else here had the honor of watching it?
  16. Yeah, Family Guy and American Dad are both great.
  17. Barbara, first of all, it's a real honor. Second, thank you for the recommendations. Some of them I have read, the ones I haven't I will be sure to look into. What I love so much about poetry is so much beauty and meaning packed into a small space (usually small). Whereas a book or a novel draws out in length, a poem is much smaller in scale, yet its depth and breadth are incredible.
  18. "The Illusionist" with Ed Norton is by far the best movie yet this year.
  19. I wonder. If the USA shared a border with Iran would we have open borders, that we more or less have now with Mexico, or would we have protective walls and armed personnel? I know that some Objectivists espouse open borders with Mexico (which I disagree with. I don't disagree with immigration, but safety NEEDS to be factored in) but how about if Iran or Libya shared a border with us instead?
  20. I'm looking for suggestions on some excellent poetry to read that an Objectivist would appreciate. Preferably romantic and love poems, and poems that describe beautiful scenery or places.
  21. Don't get me wrong, tatoo's are fine if you're a military man, but I find it unbecoming a lady. Someday that butterfly will morph into a hideous moth. Tatoo removal on women is going to be a lucrative business someday.
  22. I've always thought that improv humour to be some of the best. "This Is Spinal Tap" being another good example of improvisational comedy. I have seen the English version of The Office, and although I do find it funny I have a hard time understanding some of the tongue in cheek English satire, not too mention some of the words. I'm not a fan of laugh tracks or live audiences so "The Office is right up my alley. Family is another favorite of mine as well.
  23. Objectivism holds that no man may violate the rights of another no matter how good the intentions. EVER. It is because of the potential value that another may bring to us and also from our intrinsic value as rational beings that another person helps someone else who may be in certain unfortunate circumstances.
