Right.

Excellent summary.  I'm not into doing the "likes" thing, but if I were, I'd give that post a "trophy."

Another concern, along with ones you mentioned, is that the faux-vaccines might actually be increasing susceptibility.  The reported figures from Israel are particularly relevant on that score.  Both cases per population and deaths per population seem to have increased.

Some figures from the US seem to be showing a similar pattern.

I don’t have time for detailing right now, more this week if I get a chance.

Idaho Legislature shuts down due to COVID-19 outbreak. Yet it was a mere six out of 70 who got it . . . so far. They were probably mingling and breathing the same air. Next outbreak? It may be the spring break revelers in places like Florida that will spread it around back home.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Legislature voted Friday to shut down for several weeks due to an outbreak of COVID-19. Lawmakers in the House and Senate made the move to recess until April 6 with significant unfinished business, including setting budgets and pushing through a huge income tax cut.

At least six of the 70 House members tested positive for the illness in the last week, and there are fears a highly contagious variant of COVID-19 is in the Statehouse. “The House has had several positive tests, so it is probably prudent that the House take a step back for a couple weeks until things calm down and it’s not hot around here for COVID,” House Majority Leader Mike Moyle said before the votes.

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

This is absolutely eerie. I quoted the last verse of that poem today to someone. And we don't have any cherry trees anywhere near and our spring won't come for weeks yet.

Last week a precious lifelong friend died suddenly, the husband of the relative to whom I am closest. I misspent some of my youth wallowing in Housman, whom I think of as a sort of Mozart of poets, unable to put a word wrong. This sprang so instantly to mind, although it was written in reaction to a romantic rejection, not a death:

He would not stay for me,and who can wonder -

He would not stay for me to stand and stare.

I shook his hand, and tore my heart in sunder,

And went with half my life about my ways.

I love that last verse - and not because of cherry trees.  I wouldn’t myself call cherry trees the "loveliest of trees."

It's the "fifty springs are little room..." and the going about the woodlands to see trees in snow, which I love to do.

Housman was a super poet.

Condolences on the death of your friend.

Thank you. Of course, Housman wrote "gaze" and not"stare" in the.other poem I referenced. Bad week, sometimes I just can't seem to put a word right..

“We Have a Very Narrow Window to Tie Reopening Policy to Vaccination Status”- Doctor On CNN

The Conservative Treehouse shared the following:

Dr. Wen shares:

We have a very narrow window to tie reopening policy to vaccination status because if everything is reopened, then what’s the carrot going to be… How are we going to incentivize people to actually get the vaccine… So that’s why I think the CDC and the Biden  Admin need to come out a lot bolder and say “if you’re vaccinated, you can do all these things…here are all the freedoms that you have, because otherwise people are going to go out and enjoy these freedoms anyway.”

Covid-19: Brazil’s spiralling crisis is increasingly affecting young people

Brazil continues to break records for all the wrong reasons as it faces its deadliest episode of the pandemic yet, amid an escalating political crisis.

More than 3780 covid-19 deaths were recorded on 30 March, six days after the country recorded its 300 000th life lost to the illness. At least 60 000 Brazilians died with covid-19 in March as the more transmissible variant known as P.1 spread across the country.

A flurry of high profile resignations1—including the foreign and defence ministers and the heads of the army, navy, and air force—have added to the woes of President Jair Bolsonaro. Critics hold Bolsonaro responsible for the country’s sobering covid-19 death tally, as he has played down the threat of the virus and refused to implement stricter measures to slow its spread.

Now, experts have warned that covid-19 is now affecting young Brazilians worse than ever before. Doctors treating covid-19 patients have reported that more young people are being admitted to their hospitals in the current wave of cases.2 Their observations are being corroborated by a series of new studies looking at infection and mortality rates in Brazil.

Covid-19 cases among people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s are up by 565%, 626%, and 525% respectively since the beginning of January, says the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz),3 a research institute attached to Brazil’s Ministry of Health. The comparatively lower increase in the overall population “suggests a shift to younger age groups,” it concluded in a bulletin published on 26 March.

Raphael Guimarães, an epidemiologist at Fiocruz, has said that cases in the younger population have likely increased because they are less able to practice social distancing and thus run a higher risk of getting infected when the virus is prevalent.

“The younger population, either due to the exhaustion of being confined, or due to the need for face-to-face work, has been more crowded than the older population,” he said.

More transmissible

Covid-19 cases have soared throughout Brazil in the past month and have been attributed to the spread of P.1, which is estimated to be 1.4-2.2 times more transmissible than previous variants.4

Growing evidence shows that young people are not only more likely to get infected with P.1 but also to die from it, some experts have warned. The Brazilian Association of Intensive Care Medicine said that the number of 18-45 year olds requiring intensive care for covid-19 in February to March this year was three times greater than in September to November 2020,5 and coronavirus related deaths in that age group have almost doubled.

Maragareth Portela, a senior researcher at Fiocruz, said that Brazil’s saturated hospitals could partly explain the higher mortality rates, as patients were less likely to survive if beds and equipment were short and staff were overwhelmed.

Yet the increase is higher in regions where P.1 is more prevalent, suggesting that it is not only more transmissible but also more lethal. “It is very likely that the P.1 variant is more severe among young adults,” said Portela.

The case of Manaus, the capital of Brazil’s Amazonas region where the P.1 variant first emerged in November 2020—causing hospitals to collapse and moralities to soar—also points to P.1 being more lethal.

A preliminary study,6 which compared case fatality rates in Manaus’s first wave of cases in April to May 2020 with the second wave in January 2021, found that deaths among people aged 20-39 were 2.7 times higher in the second wave than in the first. In the general population they were only 1.15 times higher.

“If overload was the reason for the increase in the case fatality rate, it would be reasonable to expect that the increase would be similar for different ages and genders,” said André Ricardo, epidemiologist at the Leopoldo Mandic School of Medicine in São Paulo and one of the study’s authors. “P.1 appears to be more lethal among young men and women than the original strain.”

Vaccine passports: How to prove you've gotten your COVID-19 shots for travel and avoid scams

Quote

What is a vaccine passport? How would it work for travel?

"There's no vaccine passport in the United States," says Peter Vlitas, senior vice president of airline relations for Internova Travel Group. But we're close. The most promising one is the IATA Travel Pass. It's being tested among 22 airlines, and the airline trade organization expects to release it this month. It will be limited to air travel and border crossings.

[...]

The only vaccine passport in widespread use is Israel's Green Pass. The certificate, available as either a smartphone app or paper ID using a QR code for authentication, allows users to prove their vaccine status in Israel. Passholders use their credentials to visit the gym, pool, restaurant or participate in any other activity previously restricted because of COVID-19. Only Israeli residents qualify for a Green Pass, but Israel is in discussions with other countries to have the passes accepted outside the country, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

It was an interesting time at Walmart today. We now, both have our double Covid shots just as a Brazilian double mutation is on its way to get us. How many variants is it now?  But we are not doomed. Study the science and get your shots.

Obviously the Corona virus was manufactured to kill off Republican, conservative, conspiracy theorists, and libertarian knuckle heads. Other than old people and people with “underlying conditions” who is more likely to die? Deniers.

“With my old man I got no respect. He told me never take candy from a stranger unless he offered me a ride.” — Rodney Dangerfield. Joke. I went to the supermarket today with the missus when a van pulled up alongside me, offering transport service. The driver was wearing a mask, and said that he was from the government, and that he was here to help. So I said, "take my wife...please."

Just get in the damn van.

("Take my wife, please!" A classic joke from comedian Henny Youngman. Youngman  claimed the joke was a misinterpretation, in reference to a real-life incident involving his wife, Sadie Cohen, but it stuck, and became one of his classic one-liners. It can also be said to be a "paraprosdokian." I couldn't fine any information about "paraprosdokians" in the WE THE LIVING archives, but I did find some information here: https://english.stackexchange.com/questions/107329/is-the-phrase-take-my-wife-please-a-paraprosdokian."

"Take" can be used to mean "Consider .. for example". So, when the comedian says, "Take my wife," we presume he's going to tell some funny anecdote about his wife, for example, something like, "Some women spend so much time in front of the mirror! Take my wife – I don't understand how anyone can need three hours to get ready in the morning." But when the word "please" is tacked on instead, we realize he meant "take" in the sense of "take her away from me." Yes, it's a paraprosdokian. – J.R. Mar 14 '13 at 15:28

JR is correct. "take my wife" on that wiki page looks to be the only quote used without a context to force the expectation of meaning: the garden path has not been constructed. It is easy to see why the OP was perplexed. – horatio Mar 14 '13 at 16:08
  •
it simply means consider my wife for a specific assignment or for particular field. But the fact we cannot apply this meaning alone as it can depend on the tone of the person and the incident he encounters with. it can also be abusive like taking the other persons wife merely for physical relation... – user59732 Dec 14 '13 at 9:57

+1. I've heard this joke many times and never understood the word play. I just thought it was a non-sequitur, and a mediocre one at that. – Patrick M Sep 5 '14 at 16:56
  •
@PatrickM - your ease of understanding the joke also depends on how the joke is told - here's a clip of this particular joke's originator telling the joke which may help. – davidbak May 10 '16 at 16:30

Paraprosdokians are basically sentences and phrases with surprising endings that are so unexpected that it changes the expecting meaning of the early phrase. It basically plays on the double meaning of a particular word. In this case, it is the word take.

When take is used in the expression "Take my wife...", it is usually used as an instance or example in support of an argument: "let’s take Napoleon, for instance". Ending the phrase with "- please!", which is used to add urgency and emotion to a request, would change the expecting meaning of the early phrase, "take my wife", and therefore turning the entire expression into a paraprosdokian.

The joke is certainly an example of a parawhatsitcalled. It is—as the OP's link notes—a famous one-liner by Henny Youngman. From his wiki:

Henny explained the origin of his classic line "Take my wife, please" as a misinterpretation: in the mid-1930s he took his wife to a show and asked the usher to escort his wife to a seat. But his request was taken as a joke, and Youngman used the line countless times ever after.

Youngman's wife, Sadie Cohen, was often the butt of his jokes ("My wife said to me, 'For our anniversary I want to go somewhere I've never been before.' I said, 'Try the kitchen!'", or "my wife's cooking is fit for a king. (gesturing as if feeding an invisible dog) Here King, here King!" Also, "Last night my wife said the weather outside was fit for neither man nor beast, so we both stayed home.") but in reality the two were very close, with Sadie often accompanying her husband on his tours.

"Take my wife—please!" is similar to the "I have your wife!"/"You can keep her" trope.

Ellen,

To add to that, there's this:

In the case of Florida and Texas banning vaccine passports, that sounds right.

But WHO trash talking something similar?

I wonder what the con is.

Wouldn't it be a hoot if there was no con at WHO this go around?

My whole worldview would suffer...

:)

(But I would still keep looking for the con.)

There were announcements already a few days ago that WHO wasn’t going along with vaccine passports - also that WHO isn’t going along with China's offer to provide database services for tracking.

Like you, I’ve been wondering what the con is.

Note this statement in the Disclose.tv thing you embedded:

"It is uncertain as to whether vaccinations prevent the transmission of #COVID19, cites WHO spokesperson Harris."

Could reality actually be penetrating at WHO?

Name-calling ...

White House rules out involvement in 'vaccine passports'

Quote

"The government is not now, nor will we be supporting a system that requires Americans to carry a credential. There will be no federal vaccinations database and no federal mandate requiring everyone to obtain a single vaccination credential," Psaki told reporters at a briefing.

The White House has been clear that it would defer to private companies if they wanted to implement some type of vaccine passport system in which individuals would have to provide proof that they received one of the coronavirus shots.

William,

I saw that.

But coming from the Biden junta I am going to wait and see. (Based on past examples, Biden will not ban fracking and so on--nice sounding statements, execution equivalent of used toilet paper.)

The public statement on not supporting vaccine passports is a step in the right direction, but I just don't trust them. Anyone counting on finding a pair of rugged boots in a pile of flip-flops is a good candidate for disappointment.

Besides, I believe Psaki said that because the vaccine passport trial balloon crashed and burned big time in the focus group results. (Nice coincidence about WHO caving right at the same time, huh? :) ) Not even Biden supporters want vaccine passports and insisting on them comes with devastating political costs in today's environment.

In fact, that self-serving emphasis gives me a bit of hope--political gain is motivation you can believe in for the Biden junta, not any sense of rationality or decency or freedom.

Besides, why should anyone have to worry about hope re detention papers for all citizens in the USA? It's stupid and evil to have this issue in the mainstream as a serious topic.

This makes me think of misdirection. What other bad thing is happening that nobody is talking about while everybody is talking about this crap?

Mike Adams rocks.

He doesn't need taxpayers to produce his wealth or information. And he's got plenty of both.

They tried to ban him everywhere, so he owns his own platforms and news outlets, too.

I don't agree with everything he says, but I love getting information from him.

He's honest.

I think he's got the right to say whatever the hell he wants to.

:)

If he thinks the vaccines are time-delay poison (based on technical reasons he's given) and the eugenicists in the oligarchy what to destroy people who disagree with them, I'll definitely consider it. Especially when I see it right in front of me everyday.
