This is the anniversary of two famous murders. One was the killing by Byron DeLay Beckworth of NAACP leader Medgar Evers. The other was the killing by persons unknown( O J Simpson) of Ron Goldman and Nicole Simpson. Beckwith died in prison. Simpson may yet depending on how things turn out in the trial in the fall.
Yesterday Jerry Mathers turned sixty. Jerry Mathers was the Beaver on Leave It to Beaver. Leave It to Beaver ran several season in late 50ths and early 60ths. It was finally canceled because of the advancing ages of the two stars. The most memorable character was Eddie Haskell who was one of Wally's buddys. Eddie was Uriah Heep as a teenager. He was always sucking up to the adults while bullying the little kids on the show. There were rumors that he became a famous porn star although he
The news yesterday really marked the end of an era. It is the end of Kennedy era. Beginning in 1946 with the election of John Kennedy to Congress the Kennedys have been and made the news. For six Presidential elections Kennedy have been or talked about as candidates for that office. Teddy has made himself the principle spokesman for the "progressive" cause in the United States. I want to emphasize that I don't think he has been a cause for good but lets wait on the appraisals I have menti
I purchased a new HD TV last week and got it today. I had a very annoying buzz on my old TV. The new TV is great with a really great picture. It takes a lot less room too.
I received an e-mail from Dave Mayer telling about his summer blog entries. Dave is law professor and lecturer at TOC-TAS events. I have yet to look at his new blog entries but the range of entries is mind boggling. Everything from the HBO John Adams series to coming political campaign. Check out Dave's blog.
The GOP has lost three special house elections in a row. They have all been longtime GOP seats. The losses for the GOP in the US Senate maybe has many as eight. The Presidential election looks close but we may not have gridlock after it is over. My personal opinion is Obama maybe another Jimmy Carter with the results not being hostages at an embassy but a mushroom cloud over an an American city. Does anyone see any reason for hope?
This is a show from the BBC. Robin Hood has been done many times before including the great Erroll Flynn movie. This show is not as as good as that movie but it is well done. It depicts Robin and his Merry Men more correctly. The cast is young English actors who I don't know but are very good.
This is a show on AMC. It is about a team of con men in Great Britain. All the actors are British expect for Robert Vaughn. Robert Vaughn has been around since the 60ths and he was annoying then and is still annoying. The show however is worth watching. The people they con deserve being conned.
I've been watching this show on Showtime On Demand. It's strange but very well acted and written. The only person I recognize in it is Michael C. Hall who plays Dexter. Dexter is a serial killer with a passion for justice.
My cable, internet and phone have not working since April 2. I haven't been able to post anything until today. I hope it will be fixed the 16th of April.
I hope everyone is watching "John Adams". It is a very well done series. The first episode of "The Tudors" starts March 30th. I was able to watch it on INDEMAND. This is wonderful series also.
Dragnet was an important breakthrough in the detective story. Before Dragnet the police officer was not the solver of the crime. See Sherlock Holmes, The Maltese Falcon where the hero is a private detective. The Maltese Falcon the police play a very small part in the story. With Dragnet we see the police procedural as a new detective novel.
I saw this movie again last night. I also saw it when it came out. The first thing that hit me was this was the way the LA police department wanted to be seen. They probably approved. One of the items the LAPD was not pleased about in 1954 was the Bill of Rights. One of the characters says that only a guilty person would need a lawyer. There was no right to remain silent. In Los Angles in 1954 there were no visible people of color. Sometimes watching something from the past you realize t
As I have noted on the main OL web page some comments about Buckley's death. I would like to suggest to readers you look at National Review On Line for a fuller view. The first right wing book I read was Up From Liberialism. I liked National Review when I first found it. Ayn Rand's objections to Buckley have been noted and should not be ignored but has I have said he will be missed.
Thirty-eight Duke Lacrosse players are suing Duke and the City of Durham. Let's hope this means blaming Nifong for everything will not work. I would love to be at Duke President Brodhead's depostion.
He continues to win. The Clinton folks are saying we knew he would have a good month but Texas and Ohio may not be the cake walks the Clinton people expected. Obama is getting more scrunity.
