Michael Stuart Kelly
Obama dictator? ginny
Unfortunately, this call for dictatorship is not unique. I remember my Dad and some soldier buddies calling for George Wallace to be elected president. They went on to say that yes, he was a bigoted powerhungry jerk. BUT - it was precisely a powerhungry jerk (according to them) who could solve the hippy/liberal problem in the country because Wallace was the only politician not afraid to assume power and USE DEADLY FORCE. After the problem was solved, they claimed, someone would surely assassinate him and a normal person could get elected. Not making this up.Oh, by the way, I understand that the majority of Germans voted for Hitler is an interim solution to economic problems. Once the problems were solved through force, they assumed he'd disappear. And, by the way, while Roosevelt wasn't called a dictator, didn't the chaos of the depression permit him to take unheard of powers?Lesson for wanna-be dictators: create chaos, and people will fall at your feet. BaalChatzaf
Beware of a sudden "National Emergency" and a call for extraordinary powers well beyond constitutional limits. That is how a certain paper hanger with a mustache got to be King. Ba'al Chazaf
Brant Gaede
Oh, the crap is just revealing itself. The more of this the better. As for Obama, you need a certain drive, competence and will to power to be a dictator--like that bastard Chavez. Obama is competent to read a teleprompter. He won't even be renominated. If he is that'll just compound the Democratic disaster of this coming Nov. 2.--Brant

If he isn't it may be a Dem disaster anyway, just not as bad.--Brant

Charles R. Anderson
The socialists and Progressives believed they were about to gain power on a permanent basis with Obama and heavy majorities in the House and Senate. They thought that still more of their agenda would be in place now than they have been able to accomplish and that they never dreamed so many Americans would become so passionate in their opposition. They are frustrated to no end, especially because everyone they know is so on-board with the Progressive agenda and the peasantry was thought to be too mindless and incompetent to oppose them, the elitists. The many calls for a dictatorship are a sign of that frustration and are proving to be very revealing to many Americans who could never bring themselves before to believe that American Progressives were simply evil. And it might depend much on what the field of contenders looks like.
Michael Stuart Kelly
Looks like I am not the only one seeing a trend. Look at this one, folks:Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny? By THOMAS SOWELLInvestor's Business Daily.June 21, 2010From the article:Those who cannot see beyond the immediate events to the issues of arbitrary power — vs. the rule of law and the preservation of freedom — are the "useful idiots" of our time.Sowell talked about the BP thing, but he also talked a lot about Hitler in that article.I wonder if he ever will start talking about people like I mentioned above who outright clamor for Obama to be a dictator. How "useful" are those people within the context of Sowell's observations?Michael
Reidy
Not very. None of them has any political credibility, even among their fellow-believers.
Michael Stuart Kelly
Pete,So you don't think people like those I mentioned without "political credibility" are going to ask for Obama to be a dictator anymore?I, myself, think the clamors will increase. And will increase by more and more people without "political credibility."(I've seen this happen in Brazil with Lula.)I hope I'm wrong. But if I'm right, I find that disturbing.Michael
RightJungle
Read "The Overton Window". Of course there is orchestration. The only thing is that at least for the immediate split second, they still have to use the laws to achieve the goals they've stated in plain hearing. Don't know how much longer that will last, though.I have very mixed emotions about what is happening in the world. On the one hand I feel terrified by the stories coming at us everyday, but on the other hand, I feel a powerful sense of peace by virtue of knowing the underlying reasons, causes, and history; and now it is just a matter of finding and implementing solutions. The founding fathers did it and they didn't even have central air, iphones, or the web. Surely we can do it again.
