  1. That's been a common idea here on OL, that this is one of the reasons Rand would have supported Trump. The correct mode of thinking is this: Would Rand have possibly supported someone that takes a stand against people who make sacrifices either to others or unto themselves? Yes. But that still doesn't mean she would have supported Trump.
  2. I wonder what Judge Monkey would say? Judge Monkey, would Rand have voted for Trump? Well, there you have it.
  3. "The Swirl" at 0:43 almost looks like a 'Q' symbol to me. I wonder what Judge Monkey would say...
  4. Jon Stewart is aware of the Avian Order---are you?? Like I said before, Donald J Trump---Avian Order provocateur---unleashed fire and fury giving orders to deep state operatives to ignite a volcano in Hawaii as a dual pronged attack against his enemies and to kill all birds!! Oh, the HORROR!! And you want proof that Jon Stewart is aware of the Avian Order? Just look here: That's right, the Avian Order are full of sickos and EVUL people, and people like Jon Stewart are getting woke about their machinations!! Stephen Colbert is woke too!! But you don't have to be unfocused, in-the-dark, and basically be propaganda engineered automaton---be like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert and wise up to the Avian Order's evul ways and see what's happening out there. It was Hawaii goddammit! And I have a feeling something big is about to happen---I've been seeing signs of it in the news, in entertainment, the weather pattern. Things that are said in the news might not have actually been said, things that happen in entertainment might not be what happened, the weather pattern might look like it's a normal weather pattern but it might be portending something else... Yup folks, this is gonna be yuge... #stoptheavianorder #justiceforthomas #teampigeon
  5. I remember reading Hatchet with fond memories, Indian in the Cupboard, too.
  6. Canada Tariffs on US Goods From Ketchup to Lawn Mowers Begin https://www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2018-07-01/canada-tariffs-on-us-goods-from-ketchup-to-lawn-mowers-begin OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Canada began imposing tariffs Sunday on $12.6 billion in U.S. goods as retaliation for the Trump administration's new taxes on steel and aluminum imported to the United States. Some U.S. products, mostly steel and iron, face 25 percent tariffs, the same penalty the United States slapped on imported steel at the end of May. Other U.S. imports, from ketchup to pizza to dishwasher detergent, will face a 10 percent tariff at the Canadian border, the same as America's tax on imported aluminum. [...] The new Canadian tariffs, which took effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, are hitting a long list of U.S. consumer goods, including ketchup and other Kraft Heinz products. [...] Dangit Trudeau, not my ketchup! It's the brand I buy too!
  7. Thanks! I'm watching this
  8. I don't know, but if you don't follow Trump first it doesn't seem that the essence of OL has been captured... Losers!!
  9. I'm 40, and when I was growing up hardly guys read fiction in school. Then I went to college and not many guys read, I three grammar/literature classes that were required for the Associates Degree. Then I recently went back to college and was around a generation younger than me, and hardly any of them read. And from what I have been told from elders, my generation didn't read as much as their generation did. So there is a sample size here that doesn't indicate anecdotal to me. When I started planning my YA book I thought boys read as much as girls, then for due diligence I researched the market and found that it just wasn't true. The research took me one week. It's nice people have reported they have young boys that read or have seen young people reading. Yet my nephew is 9 years old and has absolutely no interest in recreational reading at all. But neither indicates a market. From my research I found young males are reading less, they had other distractions. eReaders were helping. But for anyone reading this I advise you perform your own market research and make your own marketing decisions.
  10. It's less of a percentage of total young males read, it started with the Millennial generation.
  11. YA market is strong, but that includes both boys and girls. Most of the YA market is girl readership, though. Boys make up a much smaller portion of it. I researched this just a few short years ago and the results influenced me to change plot lines and the main character in the YA book that I was writing that was targeted to boys. I wanted to sell the book so I changed it for a more broad appeal. Edit: It actually became a better book...
  12. I'm 40, when I was growing up hardly guys read books around me. I did. When I went to college way back when not many guys read, I can't recall any and I had to go through three literature classes that were required for the Associates Degree. I recently went back to college and was around a generation younger than me, hardly any of them read. I'm glad your son reads, but overall this demographic isn't what is used to be. Readership for it is down, they are seeking other forms of entertainment and it's readily accessible.
  13. I don't have to answer them. I addressed their underlying fundament. Why do you feel that you are the one to make fun? P.S. This is my last response to you, I actually do have a lot more important things to do.
  14. This is a rationalization in an attempt to explain aggressive behavior toward another human being.
  15. I love your post Jonathan, you just admitted you are making fun of him, which you shouldn't. Why do you keep assuming that I haven't read the Aristotle Wheel "Paradox" thread? Hint:
  16. Sadly, you haven't followed the logic of the conversation. Go back to the beginning, I said you should dial your rhetoric back, not the truthiness about the person in the article.
  17. You're a moron for believing the crap you do. Study logic. There are plenty of people here trying to show you you're wrong in your ways
  18. Dude wtf? You really should think about dialing your rhetoric back.
  19. Generation X is likely the last generation of men that have a market for readership. Any younger than that and the market is very small. So what do you do? I don't know. Having an "online presence" takes almost as much effort as the writing itself, what I mean is going beyond a website, facebook page, etc. It's using social media to try to get sales, readers, beta readers, word of mouth, etc. I've read where people categorize this as marketing, but some of it felt like a hustle when I was learning it. So I don't know, but if you're trying to sell online you'll have to wear several hats, and marketing is just one of them. Fortunately, there are more men online in the age group that you're writing to. But you know what? Why not change it up a little and write a contemporary fiction book. A few writers have went outside of their genre and done this, but of course that raises the questions of being a 'sell out' or doing it 'for the money'---a utilitarian vs. values argument.
  20. Peterson is not an Objectivist, if anyone still thinks that he is, or is Objectiv-ish, this video should prove that he is not. His premise is flawed here, it is based off a conditional that if you are moral, then you believe in god (implicitly/explicitly). Perhaps he is using the modality if you are moral then you must believe in god. I'm not sure what his logic is behind this. Perhaps he's going the neuroscience route and saying we all have a "god center" in the brain (god helmet stuff). I don't know, but what I do know is I can be categorized as an atheist, I am moral, and I know that I don't believe in god.
  21. So you were "hoping" for someone else's misfortune? And you think that that "would have been fun"? You're also saddened by it because you would like to see "even more people shred" someone? You're an ass hat.
