  1. All’s quiet on the southeastern front. Nate Cohn Sat, March 18, 2023 at 10:23 AM EDT It’s been a tough few months for Ron DeSantis. Donald Trump and his allies have blasted him as “Meatball Ron,” “Ron DeSanctimonious,” a “groomer,” disloyal and a supporter of cutting entitlement programs. Now, he’s getting criticism from many mainstream conservatives for calling Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “territorial dispute.” Is all of this making a difference in the polls? There are signs the answer is yes. In surveys taken since the Trump offensive began two months ago, DeSantis, the Florida governor, has steadily lost ground against Trump, whose own numbers have increased . . . . end quote Sssshhh, Nikki Haley. Like DeSantis, people will need to remember how to spell your name. From The Hill: Trump holds a 4-point lead over Biden, with 46 percent saying they would support the former president in a rematch in 2024 and 42 percent saying they would back the current president, the Emerson College poll found. However, Biden leads DeSantis by 4 points, 44 percent to 40 percent, and Haley by 3 points, 40 percent to 37 percent, in separate match-ups, according to the poll. While Haley announced her campaign earlier this month, DeSantis has yet to officially launch a 2024 bid.
  2. A while back Stephen wrote something that really made me think: Stephen Boydstun wrote: "But he was dishonorably discharged, there in the Mediterranean. He was flown off the ship, then back to the States. He returned home, told his father that he was gay and had been discharged. His father never spoke to him again as long as he lived." end quote That is awful and unfair. And I hope this is appropriate to say, Mister Stephen Boydstun. Stay around as long as possible. Peter
  3. We were looking for something to watch “off the beaten path” tonight and found an excellent movie on Prime. I was a bit doubtful but after a minute or two, I was enthralled by it. Renee Zellweger is excellent. You can see what it was like in 1902 London for a woman author, trying to get a book published. The movie was “Miss Potter.” Miss Potter (2006) Stars: Renée Zellweger, Ewan McGregor, Emily Watson Director: Chris Noonan Writer: Richard Maltby Jr. Genre: Biography, Drama, Romance The story of Beatrix Potter, the author of the beloved and best-selling children's book, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", and her struggle for love, happiness, and success.
  4. jeesh. You be smart. It's likes you be thinkin what I be thinkin. Well done marc. And youse nose your history. But in 2024 I can't conceive of a realistic third party can
  5. From HISTORY: America’s two-party political system makes it difficult for candidates from outside the Republican and Democratic parties to win presidential elections. Since 1920, in fact, only four third-party candidates—Robert La Follette in 1924, Strom Thurmond in 1948, George Wallace in 1968 and John Hospers in 1972—have been able to win even a single electoral vote. That doesn’t mean, however, that third-party candidates haven’t altered the outcomes of presidential elections over the course of American history . . . . According to some political analysts, third-party candidates aided Trump’s election. They pointed to the results in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where Stein’s vote total exceeded Trump’s margin of victory. Had Stein’s votes in those three states flipped to Clinton, she would have won the Electoral College in addition to her popular vote majority. However, according to Politico, Stein has rejected the claim by pointing to exit polls that not only showed the majority of her voters would have stayed home instead of casting ballots for Clinton but that a sizable number of her supporters preferred Trump as a second choice . . . end quote A third-party Presidential candidate in 2024? Ralph Nader and Ross Perot are two other recent ones and Bernie Sanders too. And remember in 2015 it was said if the Republican Party did not back Donald Trump he would run as a third-party candidate? I just got a fund-raising letter from the Republican Party, but I am saving my money for President Trump. For now. Peter
  6. I agree with you Marc, unless something weird happens. Another trivial (or meaningful) question is, who’s Kellyanne Conway going to work for, DJTrump or Ron? From Florida Politics, Kellyanne Conway talking about Ron DeSantis:“ . . . Talk a little bit more about the economic miracle in Florida. I don’t think woke and COVID are two things that are going to win the nomination and ultimately the presidency,” she said, though “they animate a certain population.” “But I think the more he says that, the more he’s detracting from what’s been a pretty good Republican message: ‘Make America Florida.’ Don’t we all wish? I think the people in the Dakotas wish they could have Florida weather and we all wish the President could have a supermajority to help pass legislation.”
  7. Good thinking Marc. I tapped on that keyboard thingy and found the answer and . . some of . . . the other Q’s and A’s others might think of. Will DJT do what President Cleveland did? Peter From “Time:” While an incumbent President has never lost a primary nomination in modern U.S. history, these five challengers put up a serious fight. end quote From The New York Post: . . . The last time an incumbent president did not succeed in winning a second four-year term was when George H.W. Bush was defeated by Democrat Bill Clinton in 1992. In addition to Bush, three other incumbent presidents have lost re-election in the last 100 years. Democrat Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the US, who served from 1977 to 1981, was defeated by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election . . . . The country’s 38th president, Republican Gerald Ford, lost to Carter in 1976 . . . Herbert Hoover, the nation’s 31st president, served between 1929 and 1933 and was defeated by Democrat Franklin Roosevelt in the 1932 election . . . The United States’ 27th president, William Taft, served from 1909 to 1913 and lost his re-election campaign to Democrat Woodrow Wilson . . . Other incumbent chief executives to lose re-election include Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president; Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd president; Martin Van Buren, the eighth president; John Quincy Adams, the sixth president; and his father, John Adams, the country’s second president. Cleveland is the only president in US history to serve two discontinuous terms.
  8. ‘The Fabelmans’ is fascinating. Especially if you liked Spielberg’s movies like 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (1981) 'Jurassic Park' (1993) 'Saving Private Ryan' (1998) 'Jaws' (1975) 'Schindler’s List' (1993) ‘ET’ and ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind. “The Fabelmans.” Director: Steven Spielberg Writer: Steven Spielberg, Tony Kushner Stars: Michelle Williams, Gabriel LaBelle, Paul Dano Genre: Drama / Growing up in post-World War II era Arizona, young Sammy Fabelman aspires to become a filmmaker as he reaches adolescence, but soon discovers a shattering family secret and explores how the power . . . .
  9. POLITICS News Thursday, March 2nd 2023 . . . . DeSantis moves toward GOP presidential bid on his own terms. DeSantis is perhaps the most potent threat to Trump’s effort to win the GOP nomination for the third time . . . . For now, DeSantis is perhaps the most potent threat to Trump’s effort to win the GOP nomination for the third time. The Club for Growth will host DeSantis among a half-dozen presidential prospects at a closed-door retreat in Florida next weekend with top donors. Trump is not invited. Meanwhile, DeSantis has quietly begun to expand his political coalition on his terms just as he releases a book, “The Courage to be Free,” which comes out Tuesday. He spent the weekend huddled behind closed doors at a south Florida luxury hotel for a “Freedom Blueprint” retreat with more than 100 donors, elected officials and conservative influencers. The attendees included former Trump chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton and Texas-based donor Roy Bailey, a former member of Trump’s national finance committee. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt and Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee were also in attendance, along with Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, Utah Sen. Mike Lee, Texas Rep. Chip Roy and Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie . . . .
  10. Uh. Let's see. 23, 24 . . . time passes and stuff happens . . . I think a lot of people have been "considering "Dee Santo Ose."
  11. I heard a song on a gospel show just before Marty Stuart's show comes on RFD, Saturday nights at 8pm. What is a song you love that could be a theme song to a show or one that you would not mind listening to every day in your car? I could listen to the following for 10 or 20 minutes a day for the rest of my life. The song is: The Almond Brothers playing “Jessica.”
  12. I agree. Yet, in the meantime, I do like to donate money to the right candidates. But I can't see donating to more than two candidates as rational. I am not seeking favors so my motivation will be to see them win, and for some others to become potential VP candidates as I have mentioned. Traditionally Presidential candidates don't select their Veep on strict ideological / political lines, but on their value to get him elected. So, a woman, a Hispanic, a person of color, or a person from a state with a lot of electoral college votes make some strategic sense as long as their political views mostly jibe with President Trumps views . . . which in turn jibe with the more laissez-faire, conservative, freedom loving majority of republican or independent voters.
  13. I guess we will need to learn how to spell potential or current candidates like Nikki Haley and Ronald (Ron) Dion DeSantis Here is an interesting view about Nikki Haley. I saw a picture of her Indian - American family and her father still wears a turban. From Newsweek” Mary Trump, a political analyst and niece of former President Donald Trump, theorized recently that her uncle is hoping for more Republicans to run against him in 2024. Over the last several years, Mary Trump has emerged as the only member of the former president's extended family to be openly critical of his political career and rhetoric. She has also become a prominent voice against the increasingly extreme tendencies of the Republican Party. On Sunday, she appeared on MSNBC's The Katie Phang Show to discuss the developing field of Republican candidates for the 2024 presidential election. Donald Trump was the first to declare his candidacy late last year, with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley also officially joining the race on Tuesday. A former United Nations ambassador during the Trump presidency, Haley has been criticized since announcing her candidacy for her seeming unwillingness to differentiate herself from her former boss. Mary Trump said that Haley is attempting a difficult balance with her campaign, having to avoid being overly critical of Donald Trump while also selling herself as a viable candidate. She also suggested, not for the first time, that Haley's bid might be part of a long-term plan to become Donald Trump's 2024 running mate. "It's a little mystifying to understand what [Nikki Haley's] run is about, unless, as is often the case, she's running for vice president," Mary Trump said. "But she needs to walk a very fine line, right? She can't be too anti-Donald and she has to sort of toe the GOP line. I think we're going to see a campaign that's sort of replete with Republicanisms. We've already seen this in her opening bid, the racism, the homophobia, and the entire ignorance of the reality of America's past and her unwillingness to grapple with that. So I don't think we're going to see much interesting or unique in her campaign at all." . . . .
  14. If Trump did not run, for whatever reason, DeSantos would be my choice in a primary . . . or if I find out something bad about him . . . I don't have anyone else in mind. But the former female, UN ambassador would be OK. NIkki seems like a good choice for VP too.
  15. From The Washington Examiner: . . . . Sanders, the youngest governor in the United States and the longest-tenured press secretary in the Trump White House, flew up political draft boards after she delivered what Trump supporters agree was an "exceptionally strong" response to Biden's State of the Union on Feb. 7 . . . . end quote And now there is Nikki Haley. She was nominated by Trump to be U.N. ambassador.

  17. We watched “The Fabelmans” on Prime tonight for 6 bucks. It was nostalgic, sometimes a bit “down” and sometimes very “up beat.” How did Steven Spielberg become such a great filmmaker? Watch it and find out. The Fabelmans (2022) Content Rating: PG-13 Director: Steven Spielberg Writer: Steven Spielberg, Tony Kushner Stars: Michelle Williams, Gabriel LaBelle, Paul Dano Genre: Drama Growing up in post-World War II era Arizona, young Sammy Fabelman aspires to become a filmmaker as he reaches adolescence, but soon discovers a shattering family secret and explores how the power of films can help him see the truth.
  18. Carnival Row is an American neo-noir fantasy television series[1] created by René Echevarria and Travis Beacham, based on Beacham's unproduced film spec script, A Killing on Carnival Row.[3] The series stars Orlando Bloom, Cara Delevingne, Simon McBurney, Tamzin Merchant, David Gyasi, Andrew Gower, Karla Crome, Arty Froushan, Indira Varma, and Jared Harris. The series follows mythological beings who must survive as oppressed refugees in human society, as a human detective works to solve murders connected with them. Carnival Row's first season was released in its entirety on Amazon Prime Video on August 30, 2019. In July 2019, Amazon renewed the series for a second season, which is set to premiere on February 17, 2023, and will serve as the series' final season. End of quote from Wikipedia. Scary and gross but with high production values. Peter Of course, aboves Rene Eschevarria worked on Star Trek TNG. I confused him with another Rene who appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Odo / ˈoʊdoʊ /, played by René Auberjonois, is a fictional character in the science fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He is a member of a shapeshifting species called Changelings and serves as the head of security for the space station Deep Space Nine on which the show is set. Alas, Rene Auberjonpos or “Odo” recently died from metastatic lung cancer at the age of 79. Peter
  19. Parse the following. They are propagandists. Who is the ‘DONOR?” What are they getting at? Gee. Dem guys are all discussing it and dem says? They are getting very bad at their job of being believable liars. From MSN: It is a five-alarm fire,” a prominent Republican donor said. “And there is nobody coming to put it out.” Apparently, Republicans – members, donors, strategists, everyone – are discussing how to prevent Trump from leveraging a split field to his advantage, from winning the nomination, losing the presidency, and ultimately costing the GOP an opportunity to retake the Senate and keep the House.
  20. This is a bit off but. .. what are the best lyrics ever? Here You Come Again by Dolly Parton Here you come again Just when I've begun to get myself together You waltz right in the door, just like you've done before And wrap my heart 'round your little finger Here you come again Just when I'm about to make it work without you You look into my eyes and light those dreamy eyes And pretty soon I'm wondering how I came to doubt you All you gotta do is smile that smile And there go all my defenses Just leave it up to you and in a little while You're messing up my mind and filling up my senses Here you come again Looking better than a body has a right to And shaking me up so, that all I really know Is here you come again, and here I go All you gotta do is smile that smile And there go all my defenses Just leave it up to you and in a little while You're messing up my mind and filling up my senses Here you come again Looking better than a body has a right to And shaking me up so, that all I really know Is here you come again, and here I go Here I go And here I go And here I go Here you come again And here I go Here I go And here I go
  21. After thinking on it, I think she is an objectivist. I agree with her.
  22. I agree. I do not like this politicalized aspect of individualism But As AYN RAND stated so many times in her books . . . you ARE, who you are in your HEAD! Story by BRUCE SCHREINER Republican lawmakers in Kentucky advanced a bill Thursday to allow teachers to misgender their transgender students — plunging into a culture war issue despite pleas to resist doing so from a state Senate colleague whose transgender son died recently. What?
  23. In her favor, Marjorie Taylor Green is quoted frequently on the net, but nearly always her quote is surrounded by “qualifying words.” I went to her web site and she sounds reasonably rational and not “overly emotional.” I don’t think she is anti-Semitic or anti-black, in any of her “official words.” Of course, she is against certain policies perhaps approved by certain groups of people. However, they, meaning “those leftist guys,” who quote her cannot stop slanting and propagandizing what she says. Any time she is quoted or shown on the news check out what she actually thinks on her web site. She is now on my OK list, though I don’t like her stance on banning all or nearly all abortions and a few other things. I will leave it at that.
