  1. Here's a guy, John McEntee, who was trusted with huge responsibilities in the last year of Trump's term -- preparing for the second term and doing his level best to implement Trump's wishes as Director of the Office of Presidential Personnel. In this Breitbart interview he answers questions on lessons learned, general plans in place for staffing in 2025, insights and tips for activists, enthusiasts and general MAGA stalwarts. It looks like McEntee will be back for a second interview. I hope he gets prodded for more details of the plan to "radically reshape the federal government," as reported by Axios upthread. Via Tom Fitton's tweet: -- added context from the Axios article; Kash Patel and McEntee are both likely to regain tops spots in a second Trump administration; more names here: Bonus!
  2. A bit stream-of-consciousness, but hey. Slapdash reaction or opium dream, I never said I was not a bore. Lauren Witzke and Deana Lorraine have a theory: [...] "We know the technology exists." Artificial Weather Manipulation (or artificial manipulation of climate/microclimate or 'weather engineering') indeed has hope and history -- as Michael noted, a simple desire to "change the weather" has probably been a desire for most of humankind -- since our ancestors mastered the use of fire. It wouldn't take us long to amass a hoard of rituals and incantations to the weather 'gods' ... What the ancestors seem to have learned is that energy-in is energy-out. And if you want a really hot fire, you have to work smart. And if you want to control and direct your fire, you have to learn some rule-of-thumb physics. Fuel, Oxygen, Heat are essentials. Containing the heat within a vessel or enclosure allows a kind of concentration. [aside: the first smallest-scale 'climate' or 'weather' zone early humans established was maybe within the home. "A fire in every hearth." Dry and warm is one of those basics ... /aside] Fast-forward past the first primitive fireboxes and ovens, past the discovery of clay's special properties, past kilns, and end up at the first smelting of metals. How was the energy concentrated in one place to raise temperatures high enough to melt ores, whether gold, lead, silver, copper? Bellows, exhaust control, compressed air? Not to get into the chemical processes that came under human comprehension. So, each successive leap forward in abilities to control and direct heat were like a ratchet. From 'primitive' Bronze Age to fine Roman steel, the details, kinks and best practices became part of human engineering. I'll skip the history of cloud-seeding and the entire hypothesis of "added energy/slower loss of energy" in the climate system -- which we know informally as global warming. As a generality bordering on cliché, I'd say "We know how to warm a given home efficiently." We know the trade-offs, the incurred costs and the operating costs for our own environments. But I won't get into that. What are the essential elements of a storm on Earth? How to get from fire to 'weather' or even to 'weather control'? Perhaps through thinking through how a fire is like a storm by analogy or comparison. Each storm on Earth has necessary components to begin. With fire it's fuel, oxygen, heat. With storms it's air pressure, moisture and heat differentials. Which physical or chemical trigger causes a fire to be born? Can this be likened to the birth of a storm? Where do we find "boundary" conditions for a fire, and where do we look for boundary conditions for a storm to emerge? In a jumble in my mind are a few things I feel I know offhand. When a high pressure air mass that is relatively 'dry' meets a cold 'front,' with both on the move, there is a kind of friction, the kind of friction that produces energy. Similar in a stretched way to the 'friction' of a flint, or the concentrated heat that triggers combustion and sustains a fire. Energy is what is necessary for a fire-storm and a weather-storm. Now I'll go on my forty minute bike ride and then consult some reference works, and then return to talk off the top of my head before editing. Heat energy from the Sun. Wind energy, the energy of air pressures, electrical energy, gravitation, torsion of the earth's atmosphere. How a hurricane takes shape. How tropical cyclones form in the first place.

  6. Who will be among the first nation-states or 'independent entities' to congratulate Russia on its hasty 'acquisitions'? Belarus doesn't count, since Lukashenko and Putin have not yet agreed on the full scope and structure of their "Union State." Each erstwhile ally and friend of Russia -- China, Iran, Venezuela, DPRK, Djimidoreia, Nicaragua, Hungary(?) -- will probably wait for a good while. *** Soundings (Levada) suggest that shocks from the partial mobilization may have awakened Russian apoliticals to greater interest and to some degree, unease. Putin's televised announcement today that mobilization "mistakes" must be corrected may go some way to mollify cynicism and disgust. Who knows. 7. I've shared a few of the Russian English-language video accounts that I follow on YouTube. Each has been registering the shock of mobilization, each in their own way. Even those resolutely apolitical or avoidant of any sensitive topic have gravely explained ''what it means" ... while the facts of the departures have become subjects of scorn, anger and aggressive rhetoric on the federal television channels. To capture the flavour of those programmes and their reaction to the leave-taking, check out Russian Media Monitor's account. Two of the accounts I have mentioned here, Niki Proshin and Inside Russia's Constantin, are no longer inside Russia, having had the means and opportunity to leave on 24 hour notice -- before a rumoured 'iron curtain' would come down for males in the sought-after demographic. Constantin of Inside Russia did a live-stream today (following on his daily streams since the mobilization order). In it he tells a few stories and offers vignettes of what he witnessed during his departure and at the border checks.

  10. Previously, on Morality Today: I didn't think that. [Truncation restored: And even if I don't think that the Special Master is chickenshit or that his legal opinion is worth chickenshit, the full set of Trump concerns are still being looked at very closely.] [Link to: "chickenshit"] Harp! I don't know what is meant by "what is ultimately a frivolous lawsuit by the DOJ". The DOJ search and seizure warrant was executed at Mar-a-Lago -- and the FBI carted away documents that fell under the warrant. The warrant was signed by the Magistrate Judge Reinhart. Two weeks later Movant/Plaintiff asked for "judicial oversight and relief" before the District Court that procedurally has jurisdiction over magistrates. That's Judge Aileen Cannon's court. I could not identify what lawsuit you were talking about. Analogy Warfare! My remit here is to note and link to stages of the "three-pronged" legal encounters underway -- borrowing the term from Styx. I wonder if you found time to listen to the Styx episodes above or not. By analogy, your intelligence-gathering is from a higher plane than mine. You are in the AWAC far above the ground. I am in the cohort of one who links to stages of the war on the streets/in the courts. I believe that you are informed by the links and details. When and if you care to answer a question like "What happened in the first quarter," you can click on a link to the legal filings and update or augment your priors. At least you aren't looking down your nose at anyone. A criminal investigation is one thing. A lawsuit brought against the government by a former president is another thing. They are related of course, because one thing let to another. Perhaps "framing" as a story or narrative or timeline-with-unpredictable-outcome would help. Forgive the passive voice. I say we here are all watching with interest "what happens." Not least because the happening is still happening. The ultimate happenings haven't happened, while our predictive abilities are in play. I understand your opinion. Yes, I agree you could have been clearer that you are taking the 35,000 foot AWACs approach. I'd be wrong to suggest that you don't give a shit about the details of the ongoing happenings. I think that your opinion doesn't rest on the details -- not that you don't give a rap about them. Hey, you are a very busy guy. As far as I remember, you don't generally like to read over legal filings. Moreover, I believe you are fairly well-acquainted with the strategy of Trump-side legal honchos, although you haven't yet articulated it within a narrative or three-act structure.
  11. Human breast milk and the coat of many colours ... I think this story as well as the "harder than steel" story about clotting are somewhat... far fetched. Does human breast milk come in various tints? Yes. The most commonly-occuring colour variants of breast milk are apparently blue and green.

United States, 9:22-cv-81294 — Brought to you by the RECAP Initiative and Free Law Project, a non-profit dedicated to creating high quality open legal information. Here's a couple of items from commentator Styxhexenhammer666. Two videos from Bitchute and Rumble were processed in Descript, rendering a readable transcript. Except for a bad-taste mention of Melania's underwear, Styx apprises his watchers of his general attitude towards a "three forked" DOJ strategy, and adds in pertinent detai. The longer Descript video has been lightly edited to remove ums and uhs and to remove duplicate words. The shorter video renders only the mentions of the Mar-a-Lago raid and aftermath. Styx has some particularly intriguing opinions on the strategy of Trump lawyers -- how to avoid providing particularity or sworn testimony to any procedure for declassification that Trump may have used. Most legal nerds, lit, woke, freaked, syndromal or not, patriots or or not, agree that it would be nuts. Next up, what the "Leftoids" reacted to from the Hannity interview ... hey-ho. Cued to the triggering segment: I'll now look for the most bizarre and/or syndromal reaction from the suspects. Following up ... So why keep harping on the details of what is ultimately a frivolous lawsuit by the DoJ? I don't know what is meant by "what is ultimately a frivolous lawsuit by the DOJ". The DOJ search and seizure warrant was executed at Mar-a-Lago -- and the FBI carted away documents that fell under the warrant. The warrant was signed by the Magistrate Judge Reinhart. Two weeks later Movant/Plaintiff asked for "judicial oversight and relief" before the District Court that procedurally has jurisdiction over magistrates. That's Judge Aileen Cannon's court. Cannon ruled quickly on the motion and was inclined to favour the arguments of the plaintiff, insofar as granting an independent review of seized items -- preventing the government from using any of the items for any of their investigating. No carve-outs for the 'special 100' documents flagged by the DOJ as dealing with national security. She intended to appoint a Special Master and charged the parties with providing nominees. Cannon then dealt with a DOJ motion for a partial stay pending appeal. She denied that motion -- and then set up the Special Master and the parties with a preliminary schedule as a "case management plan." Then, the USA/DOJ moved in her court for a partial stay -- arguing that any marked documents needed to be excluded and that inter-agency review must proceed. Cannon denied the motion and the DOJ filed a motion with the Circuit Court that supervises her district. The DOJ motion was immediately granted by the 11th Circuit Court, the carve-out was restored, so the DOJ along with "national security" quangos now continues its investigation using those documents. Cannon immediately updated/deleted the carve-out language from her orders and ... basically left the Special Master to do the work assigned. The "case management plan" is speedy. If anyone wants to apprise themselves of the reporting stages and deadlines, you can have a gander at the schedule.
  13. A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. Good for you. Glad you are moving, healthy and ready to rumble. I go to get my fall 'bivalent' booster shot for COVID-19 this evening. I expect a fit of chills and some stiffness in my arm. Quite a contested subject, as it turns out. Is there a footnote with details on that?
  14. Cannon likes things to keep moving. Dearie was fairly fast off the mark once he had read the plan. Meet the new guy, Orenstein.
  15. Wow... The walls are closing in. Trump's a goner this time. He's toast. He's done. I didn't think that. And even if I don't think that the Special Master is chickenshit or that his legal opinion is worth chickenshit, the full set of Trump concerns are still being looked at very closely. Dearie may well have been happy that the 11th Circuit by its own explicit legal reasoning reached the same conclusion about the 100-odd set-aside 'marked classified' documents as he did. But he is still charged by Judge Cannon to obey her orders -- which the docket today shows were updated in response to the granting of a partial stay by the 11th. The most important of Cannon's orders today concerned an updated "Case Management Plan" for the other ~11,000 items to be examined for exclusion or one of two kinds of privilege or/and type of personal/presidential document or record or item. Elsewhere, on the topic of 'marked classified' but hey-ho, the marking is deceptive ... The usual suspects with full-blown you know what have seized on a small segment from Sean Hannity's interview with President Trump that went out last night on FoxNews. -- there might be an issue under there -- that instantly-declassified documents do/do not require any formal procedure following that executive decision. Trump may be proved entirely right to insist on his powers. I would have insisted on a big rubber DE-CLASSIFIED stamp somewhere between the original subpoena and the lawyerly declaration that everything that belonged to the government had been returned after a careful inventory. But I also would be glad that my lawyers don't consider my TV talking to be sworn testimony. As before, Cannon does not mess around ...

    Ellen,

Let me add some crud he might like to retweet (not the tweet below, but information about the event).

When I discovered that Colleen Shogan had written a murder mystery called "Gore in the Garden," my imagination briefly went wild. The genre seemed more welcoming than a clotted-with-footnotes dense 'academic' style of writing under the long heading of "Anti-Intellectualism in the Modern Presidency: A Republican Populism."

I got as far as the introductory definitions, and posted them to a web page with a sound file via the tweet below. Shogan's stylized writing does not have the verve and flair at summarizing dense proceedings that the 11th Circuit court of appeals showed in its terse ruling, but setting aside her incipient RDS circa 2007, she gets to the point. Right or wrong, gapingly biased or morally squalid, she gets to the point.

  17. What I love about the Mearsheimer wing of realism is that it is logical and amoral -- or mostly bereft of active moralism. Meaning Mearsheimer-associated realists leave the side-taking to other analysts and philosophers of power. In theory, anyways. See Michael Tracey's Twitter account for a tankie realist with full-blooded moralism. But then, Tracey probably doesn't consider himself among august political scientists like the Mearsheimer wing or leaders at think-tanker institutes and policy shops. I'd say the amoral realist wing is as prone to predictions as any other great wonk wing, and that a test of a realist prediction is relatively easy to accomplish. It's hard to always know, on the other hand, if what you predict is what you wish to come true. As in any contested space of discussion, there are lesser and greater other sides or wings one could compare, contrast and consult for a fuller range of views. This May 2022 Munk debate was a good work-out:

  19. There wasn't an immediately-available transcript of the thirty-five minute session in Judge Dearie's courtroom in Brooklyn yesterday, while many commenters published their own enthusiastic reactions. The subtext is "fuck you" to the other side. Much of the online DS reaction cherry-picked from the proceeding, serving up quotes and paraphrases. Did Judge Dearie say the plaintiff lawyers, "You can't have your cake and eat it"? Yes. Did he tell the plaintiff lawyers that he had a 'prima facie case' of classified records before him -- and that "that's the end [of] it"? Yes, he did. The full context provides Trump-side "fuck you" people some reasonable assurances that the judge will be fair and impartial and open to argument. Transcript via Twitter: Direct link: https://s3.documentcloud.org/documents/22647923/donald-trump-v-united-states-09202022.pdf -- in other Trump family news, Trump Junior is outraged at the civil suit just dropped by the New York state attorney-general. 20. A lengthy article in the Wall Street Journal today: The Ragtag Army That Won the Battle of Kyiv and Saved Ukraine
  21. Meanwhile, at the 11th Circult court of appeals ... From the penultimate page: Here, the Government has criminalized a document dispute and now vehemently objects to a transparent process that simply provides much-needed oversight. The Government’s attempt to shield the purportedly classified documents from the ambit of a Senior United States District Judge who served for seven years on a court dealing with the most sensitive national security matters therefore illustrates precisely why the District Court found a special master was appropriate and necessary under the circumstances.
  22. A Trump filing today, kvetching about timing and parts of the Judge Dearie's plan to plow through the documents. If I understand the subtext, the Trump side is saying they need more time to be careful; declaring any 'declassification' claim could prejudice a future defense by plaintiff in litigation. Tomorrow, in Brooklyn, Dearie and the lawyers will get down to business.
  23. The WarTranslated.com dude is apparently Estonian-Russian. He provides some insights and material you might be surprised at. But here he just says "oof." "The truth must be told."
