Backlighting
"Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is expected to announce Wednesday that his agency will require oil and natural-gas companies to clear more regulatory hurdles before they are allowed to drill on federal lands.Mr. Salazar's action is likely to make it more difficult for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to fast-track the permitting of oil and gas projects on federal land. BLM field staffers would be required to seek additional approvals from their supervisors and to undertake more visits to areas where energy companies are seeking access, according to people familiar with the matter"http://online.wsj.com/article/SB126274070210717245.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

But that bombardment is more effective than other kinds of air raids: it blasts your power stations, extinguishes your lights, freezes your homes, stops your motors, locks your factories, wipes out your jobs and leaves a barren land on which nothing will grow."—Ayn Rand, The Ayn Rand Letter, vol. 3, no. 3, Nov. 5, 1973

To get our necessities, we will have to go, hat in hand, to the government and perhaps tug at our forelocks.Ba'al Chatzaf
syrakusos
"The oil industry is being destroyed by a bombardment of paper ... —Ayn Rand, The Ayn Rand Letter, vol. 3, no. 3, Nov. 5, 1973 Teapot Domes aside for the moment, a thousand years ago, driving a taxicab, I had as fares a couple of oil well guys on their way to a government auction of drilling rights and they chatted about a friend of their whose wife stuck by him one dry well after the next... So, it is illogical and unfair to speak of "the oil industry" as if they are eight kids in a Cub Scout pack, chided by the Den Mother for not following Akila. That said, there are few industries so in bed with the government. Anyone who has good guys and bad guys should call them by name.
