Steve Gagne
forwarded to me from my best friend:I was not sure which way some of you would want this message so I am sending it 2 ways and you select what fits you best.To all my Democratic friends:Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee. To all my Republican & Libertarian friends:Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! jeffrey smith
A little bit of teasing you can aim at any truly religious Christian friends, especially if they are Catholic or Episcopalian/Anglican.On the Catholic/Anglican liturgical calendar, January 1 is celebrated as one of the "Feasts of Our Lord". The date of the feast is based on two facts and two unverifiable premises:Fact 1: All good Jewish boys are circumcised on the eighth day after birth.Unverifiable Premise 1: Jesus was born on December 25.Unverifiable Premise 2: Jewish was a good Jewish boy.Fact 2: January 1 is the eighth day after December 25.You can therefore appropriately extend on January 1 to your believing Christian relatives, neighbors and friends, your best wishes for a Happy Circumcision. Or, if you wish to be more informal, you can wish Jesus a Happy Bris-day.Jeffrey S.
