Judith
Anybody out there know this opera? It contains one of my favorite arias of all time. The opera is a western. The hero is about to be hung, and he asks his captors not to tell his lady about his fate, but to let her believe that he escaped and is free. Here's a recording by the first tenor I ever heard sing it, and he remains my favorite interpreter, although the recording is ancient:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaxrq7cdLY4...ted&search=Here's a newer one that's also good: Judith
Barbara Branden
Judith, I agree that Bjorling is superb.Have you listened to Pavarotti's "Ave Maria?" I keep playing it, thinking that at some point I'll believe there can be something that beautiful. This, along with one of Michelangelo's Pietas, can almost make me believe in God.Barbara
Paltou
"Ch'ella mi creda" is one of my favorite arias, and Minnie is my favorite operatic heroine. She's independent, strong, yet warm, and she stands by her man.Did you know that Andrew Lloyd Webber was influenced by La Fanciulla and you can hear strains of this opera in "Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera. Simply beautiful. That got me playing more Bjorling clips and of course the famous Pearl Fishers Duet..... In case we should ever miss maestro Pavarotti, here are a couple of earlier reminders of how powerfully he could perform, let alone give us that wonderful voice....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky271W94VHA...ted&search= Peter
Barbara Branden
Peter, the Ave Maria video I was referring to is the one you listed. I love Lanza's version, but the Youtube video of it is scratchy. I hope someone replaces it.Thank you for the link to Pavarotti's aria from Tosca. It is exquisite, and he shows himself to be a powerful actor.Barbara
