Kat
Interesting quote, Agent Smith eh? hmmmmPurpose reminds me of a song from one of my favorite albums, The Pretenders, Isle of View. (I know, like any rock, you gotta love the music and hate the musicians' politics!) Sense of PurposeEverybody chokesWhen they see someone cut down in their primeIt may not show when you look at meBut I know I’m in mineI’m potent, baby, I’m potentDangerous to the naked eyeRest your head on this bed of mother’s prideAnd find out whyDon’t you wanna take me home? Don’t you wanna take me home? Give me a sense of purposeA real sense of purpose nowGive me a sense of purposeA real sense of purpose nowBully boys don’t bother meI purse my lips and they run awayGuys like you who are gentle and trueDon’t come around here everydayI’m potent, baby, I’m potentJust one swing of me would get most guys smashedBut a drop of yours makes me stagger and swerveI guess I’m outclassedEverybody chokesWhen they see someone cut down in their primeTake this plea to your heart- lift me in mineDon’t you wanna take me home? Don’t you wanna take me home? Give me a sense of purposeA real sense of purpose nowGive me a sense of purposeA real sense of purpose nowGive me a sense of purposeA real sense of purpose nowGive me a sense of purposeA real sense of purpose now
Mike Hardy
The quote is from "Matrix Reloaded," and the words were spoken by Agent Smith to Neo.REBThank you. Ellen Stuttle
I should have done that first, I supopse [sic].Right, I supopse. Meanwhile, I supopse that Larry ought to learn to take my advice and put his glasses in a particular place, the same place each time, like on top of his dresser... We've just had an hour spent in (a) looking for his glasses, both the sunglasses and the regular glasses (both found on the bed, under a sweatshirt he'd taken off and thrown there, covering the glasses); and (B) his answer sheet (one piece of paper amongst mountains of paper) for an exam he needs to grade. Physicists!! What use are all those brains if they can't even keep track of their glasses?Scene from the physics conference I went to a couple weekends back...Larry and I sitting on a bench in front of one of the buildings on the Boston University campus, about to go to a next-door building where a meeting was being held. Two of the other physicists scheduled to appear at the meeting saunter past. "Oh, hi," they say; "do you know what room number the meeting is supposed [note spelling] to be in?" "Um," Larry says. "Room 352," I answer. Then add: "Fortunate someone isn't a physicist and can keep track of details like the room number." All three grin sheepishly. (At least they all did manage to remember which building the meeting was in.)Back to finishing tax forms. Almost done...Ellen___

Paul Mawdsley
Ellen, you wrote:"Fortunate someone isn't a physicist and can keep track of details like the room number."I've often wondered what I would be like if my early passion for math had been developed to its potential. Based on my current interests, I think I would have been a physicist. Would that have made me even worse than I am now at keeping track of details? And would I be writing on this forum under the title of an Objectivist-bug-eating insect? Scary thought!Paul
DavidMcK
BTW, Agent Smith (or rather the actor that played him, sorry forgot his name) is the V in V for Vendetta.David
