"Purpose"? Who's the author of this quote?

> It is purpose that created us, purpose that connects

> us, it is purpose that defines us, purpose that binds us."

An anonymous person added this to the article at

but did not say WHO is being quoted! Can someone

tell us? Thanks. -- Mike Hardy

Interesting quote, Agent Smith eh? hmmmm

Purpose reminds me of a song from one of my favorite albums, The Pretenders, Isle of View. (I know, like any rock, you gotta love the music and hate the musicians' politics!)

Sense of Purpose

Everybody chokes

When they see someone cut down in their prime

It may not show when you look at me

But I know I’m in mine

I’m potent, baby, I’m potent

Dangerous to the naked eye

Rest your head on this bed of mother’s pride

And find out why

Don’t you wanna take me home?

Don’t you wanna take me home?

Give me a sense of purpose

A real sense of purpose now

Give me a sense of purpose

A real sense of purpose now

Bully boys don’t bother me

I purse my lips and they run away

Guys like you who are gentle and true

Don’t come around here everyday

I’m potent, baby, I’m potent

Just one swing of me would get most guys smashed

But a drop of yours makes me stagger and swerve

I guess I’m outclassed

Everybody chokes

When they see someone cut down in their prime

Take this plea to your heart

- lift me in mine

Don’t you wanna take me home?

Don’t you wanna take me home?

Give me a sense of purpose

A real sense of purpose now

Give me a sense of purpose

A real sense of purpose now

Give me a sense of purpose

A real sense of purpose now

Give me a sense of purpose

A real sense of purpose now

The quote is from "Matrix Reloaded," and the words were spoken by Agent Smith to Neo.

I should have done that first, I supopse [sic].

Right, I supopse. Meanwhile, I supopse that Larry ought to learn to take my advice and put his glasses in a particular place, the same place each time, like on top of his dresser... We've just had an hour spent in (a) looking for his glasses, both the sunglasses and the regular glasses (both found on the bed, under a sweatshirt he'd taken off and thrown there, covering the glasses); and (B) his answer sheet (one piece of paper amongst mountains of paper) for an exam he needs to grade. Physicists!! What use are all those brains if they can't even keep track of their glasses?

Scene from the physics conference I went to a couple weekends back...Larry and I sitting on a bench in front of one of the buildings on the Boston University campus, about to go to a next-door building where a meeting was being held. Two of the other physicists scheduled to appear at the meeting saunter past. "Oh, hi," they say; "do you know what room number the meeting is supposed [note spelling] to be in?" "Um," Larry says. "Room 352," I answer. Then add: "Fortunate someone isn't a physicist and can keep track of details like the room number." All three grin sheepishly. (At least they all did manage to remember which building the meeting was in.)

Back to finishing tax forms. Almost done...

Geez. Maybe we should get Roland Pericles to post here, if he

ever returns from Communicado.

Ellen, you wrote:

I've often wondered what I would be like if my early passion for math had been developed to its potential. Based on my current interests, I think I would have been a physicist. Would that have made me even worse than I am now at keeping track of details? And would I be writing on this forum under the title of an Objectivist-bug-eating insect? Scary thought!
