A couch potato's dream...thought-activated television

I'm impressed by the technology, but also think that it's really absurd. You wouldn't have to exercise your fingers on those dreadful buttons if you'd just turn off the TV. That only takes one click.

Hey, what if you were thinking about changing the channel as soon as the commercials came on and it changed the channel prematurely? What a travesty that would be.

This is a rather short sighted application of this technology. Better would be a kind of dynamic EEG sensor which could have simple voice / pattern recognition technology applied to it that would in fact recognize subvocalized words, or even motions for the physically impaired. Perhaps this technology is not yet fine enough in detail to discern those things, but SQUID's certainly will be. We will be able to control our vehicles by thoughts alone, communicate in a manner indistinguishable from telepathy combined with VoIP. Fascinating stuff.

*SQUIDS are super conducting quantum interference devices, they can pick up minute magnetic fluctuations (which come from electrical fields) very accurately.
