  1. I can't believe I didn't hear of this until now. What always struck me most about Chris was his warmth and his ability and willingness to connect with everyone...even a young...Objectivist? What a wonderful man! I will miss you, Chris!
  2. I think they're hilarious. Not really meant to be great works of art, just to be funny visual supplements to the writing.
  3. I wasn't sure whether to post this in the psychology or the humor section... The Sneaky Hate Spiral This is a hilarious illustration of the psychological anguish caused when one lets things out of their control...control them! Anyone else experience the sneaky hate spiral? P.S. Pretty much all of the other blog entries are just as hilarious.
  4. Ted, Thank you for the explanation. I don't know whether the author intended it, but it's an interesting connection to think about anyhow. I tend to take it in a more positive way, preferring not to think the author was implying anything negative about the material world. Actually, I tend to disregard the author's intentions and place my own meaning in the quotation. Then again, I'm thinking about the changes Janie (the main character) goes through with each marriage. Her growth is sort of charted through her three marriages. Now I have to go back to where that quote is in the book (during which marriage? what events were going on at this time?) and sort of reevaluate. Interesting! Edit: I use the word 'tend' too much maybe?
  5. Michael and Selene, Thank you for just enjoying the quote with me.
  6. Ted, Could you please, if you care to, explain why you think the above quotes (one or the other) are a sentiment out of sethian gnosticism? I don't know much about it myself. I googled it and read a bit about it, briefly, and I don't think I really get the connection that you see. ==== Bob, Direct, clear explanations sometimes require direct, clear questions.
  7. Hilarious! That clip is the reason I bought and watched the movie Airplane. Good shit.
  8. Nothing like a good book to take your mind off things for a while. It's been a minute.

I just recently finished re-reading "their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston. Never heard of Holiday. Any good? (At the moment, I'm reading The Illustrated Man and American Psycho. Great combo. :)

  9. I just finished re-reading "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston tonight. Here is a quote that struck me that I thought some of you might appreciate. "When God had made The Man, he made him out of stuff that sung all the time and glittered all over. Then after that some angels got jealous and chopped him into millions of pieces, but still he glittered and hummed. So they beat him down to nothing but sparks but each little spark had a shine and a song. So they covered each one over with mud. And the lonesomeness in the sparks made them hunt for one another, but the mud is deaf and dumb. Like all the other tumbling mud-balls, Janie had tried to show her shine." And here's one I like...just for me, I guess. "They seemed to be staring at the dark, but their eyes were watching God."
  10. Saw a John Lennon art exhibit this weekend. John Lennon's 'art' sucks. That's about as eloquently as I can put it.

  13. Brant (brant), i was only making a comment about people who use crystal meth, not making a judgment on whether it is right or wrong to be a speed freak or crystal meth user, whichever you wanna call it. so, i wouldn't say i was neglectful. i would define 'freak' as more of a state of mind. kind of like...when i am on speed, i do not act as though i normally would, as my normal self. i am acting abnormally. freakishly. i no longer value the things i valued while i was sober. -Kori you neglected why it is wrong to use the word 'freak' to enforce social conformity within a group.
  14. anyone who takes speed on a regular basis is a speed freak. if you take it so much it affects your personality you are a speed freak. whenever you are on it, even once, you are a speed freak.
