Here's a song that used to drive me crazy, especially in my drug years. It's called "Side by Side." This thing would invade my skull when I was high and it was merciless.

The version I remember from my youth was either by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans or Lucille Ball and Co. Don't ask me how my memory can get those mixed up in my head. It's dangerous in there.

I remember the scene in B&W TV where the characters were dressed in cowboy costumes, but driving a really old convertible jalopy on a dirt road and singing the song while smiling and looking at each other. Maybe my subconscious is blending memories without me realizing it. I can't find it on YouTube.

But I did find this charming thing (and goddam it, the earworm came back! ).

Vis-à-vis our recent discussion on the wretchedness of Ayn Rand and what our possible future Vice-President’s loyalty to her ideals says about him, Thomas Fleming has a delightful essay about the deranged slut and the legion of monsters her writings have spawned (h/t to commenter Daniel S. at Thinking Housewife):

I well remember my own reaction to the over-quoted first sentence, “Who is John Galt?” Who could possibly care?

The less said of Rand’s personal life, the better. The long-running soap opera of her marital infidelities with her disciple “Nathaniel Branden” (not his real name) have been disclosed in excruciating detail by Branden’s wife. From the bits I read, it was a lot like the cheating and lying that caused the breakup of the rock band Fleetwood Mac. It is bad enough that such tacky people exist in our society. What effrontery they have to parade their dirty little secrets in public.

Perhaps the worst thing about Rand is the character of so many of her followers: nerdy little dweebs (as we used to call them back them) who imagine themselves to be supermen. I used to run into Objectivists all the time, and I could never decide which of their offensive qualities was the most prominent. Rudeness, arrogance, or imbecillity.

Towards the end is a little anecdote, which makes Rand out to be so utterly depraved that I have a hard time believing it, in which Murray Rothbard noisily departed from Rand’s company after she tried to compel his wife to repudiate Christ. Does anyone know if it’s accurate?

And for a wonderfully weird time watch Sarah Brightman's Utube version of "You Take my Breath Away" mixed in with an Indian singer and Ballywood type choreography. Anyone else feel like some curry?

I saw Beck playing with Clapton at a Crossroads concert. Virtually. I have seen him at the Blues Club in Orlando. Legendary. Anyway I saw him play an old favorite, Cause We've Ended as Lovers. He uses volume and vibrato on a Strat like no one I've seen. Actually makes Clapton (god) look human dressed in Granddad clothes. It was written by Stevie Wonder and sung by his wife on the way out. She had a wonderful voice. Syreeta Wonder, a beautiful piece that would have felt like home in a James Bond film.

Apple iTunes is maddening. 21,744 songs and its crapping on them. Apple is leaving it behind as it moves to Catalina. No mac for me.

Best Daryls' House episode was with Smokey Robinson. They did Tears of a Clown and Sara Smile.

ACL is back live. But Joe Bonamassa is streaming a concert there April 1st and On Demand for 1 month. Its really quite a deal, for $35. I saw him at Royal Albert Hall in '19, followed his career for 15 yrs.

Talk about blues, live music has been decimated. Now that's sad.
