In the 1960s there weren't fake soldiers or veterans. You might have gotten spit on. I have no idea why anyone would fake it. Hollow inside? Soldiers are held in much higher regard than they used to be. I'd guess it matters if you're an inside person or an outside person. The faker is the outside person, so I speculate. Now--this is something of a dog leg--there are two basic kinds of acting and actors. Method acting (Brando), which is inside out, and the outside put on the costume actor--costume may be metaphorical--or pretend to be somebody you are not acting (Olivier). There are great Method actors but they are not great actors for they don't pretend enough. Olivier was simply a great actor. Maybe the greatest. What was Brando? Brando. What was James Dean? James Dean. They were merely telling the audience they and the characters they portray are actually the same, or might as well be. Both types of actors try to sublimate their craft. The Method actor has the easier job of that. It's easier to be a real veteran with a bunch of medals--you don't walk around with the medals on your chest--that's what ribbons are for--except for special formal occasions--than to pretend to be one and be convincing.

Adam,

I got rid of that irritating autoplay version of the video you posted above (post 171) because I found almost the same one on YouTube.

But to make up for the switcheroo, I also found another video you (and the others) might like:

Michael

No, I don't like the video. He's pretending to be a killer or a would-be killer but has no idea what killing for your country actually means. I don't like pathetic. No reality. No humor. Not even worth pity.

When having a conversation with a shrink Chris Kyle was asked if he had any regrets. "Yes sir I do. My job was to protect the lives of my fellow American soldiers. I regret the loss of the ones I was not able to save. When it's my time to meet my maker I can stand before him with a clear conscience for every time I squeezed the trigger."

An amazing man, and what a tragic end.

Remarkable man.

How can any rational voter put this overt liar anywhere near the Oval Office.

(CNN) – Hillary Clinton’s campaign on Tuesday backed away from the candidate’s claim that issues with the Veterans Health Administration were not “widespread.”

Brian Fallon, Clinton’s press secretary, acknowledged to CNN wait times and other mismanagement of care by the Department of Veterans Affairs were indeed “systemic” and that Clinton will roll out her plan to reform the VA in November.

“Even now, too many of our veterans are still waiting an unacceptably long time to see a doctor, or to process disability claims and appeals,” Fallon said in a statement to CNN.

Fallon said that when Clinton is president she “will work to further reform the VA to make sure it truly works for our veterans, and will demand accountability and performance from VA leadership.”

But Clinton told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Friday that issues within the VA have “not been as widespread as it has been made out to be.”

Easy. They remember Hillary's first two terms, budget surpluses and the tech bubble. It takes a village. And that's rational if you have a student loan to be forgiven or want free single-payer nationalized medicine. Republicans are scary. They might cut welfare or start another war, maybe blow up Iran.

To the majority it is a matter of indifference, whether their salaries are paid by Lockheed or IBM or the Department of Paperwork. Their moral sense is superglued to their stomachs. [Laissez Faire Law, p.48]

That is incorrect.

Most of the voters 45 and under have no clue about the Clinton terms.

If they want a give away program, they would jump on the Bern...

This is the women and girls election.

Even some folks here on OL will vote for her on the single issues.

Care to try another reason?

Went to the new VA hospital here in Las Vegas today for a blood test...no appointment necessary.

I was in and out in 10 minutes.

The place is spotless, has all the specialties under one roof & has a restaurant with prices about half what you would expect.

No complaints here.

"Many people feel fondly for the Clinton years, and it's easy to see why: 8 years of peace and of prosperity that were followed by 8 years of 2 recessions and 2 wars. Bill Clinton left office with the largest surplus budget in US history, and the first since the 1950s. Who wouldn't want to bring back such an administration, especially after the disastrous Bush years." [Eric Lawson, on Quora.com]

Scanning pro-Hillary voices, many said Supreme Court nominations. They fear change, will vote Democrat.

Bernie has zero chance.

Glad to hear that Adam.

The VA is a monstrous complexity and I'm sure some of their facilities and management could use an over hall.

Of course I would prefer the health care was privatized.

Why do vets go to the VA? I wouldn't.

I'm not saying that for some there's any choice.

I have and use both the VA and pvt. insurance doctors (Humana)...depends on what's being done. Out of pocket expenses can also differ with both, depending on the procedure and pharmaceuticals prescribed.

Unlike the pvt. sector, VA docs are not prone to over-treating patients, which is sometimes done in the pvt sector to pump up their billing. VA docs don't own their practice & are on salary which is not based on the amount of business they generate.

I have not had the time to open many of the links.

However, there are a number of good ones to some of the analytics and studies that have been done since the scandal broke.

Rachel Maddow: The reason they [Republicans] are able to propose something that radical [privatizing the Department of Veterans Affairs] is because the problems at the VA seem so intractable. If I had been running Republican campaign against President Obama last year, I would have run it entirely on the VA — a bureaucracy, a bloated big government program that can’t be fixed, and let’s do right by our veterans. Do you have any new ideas for trying to fix it? You can’t find a person in politics who doesn’t say we shouldn’t do right by our veterans. But for some reason, this can’t get fixed fast enough.

Hillary Clinton: Yes, and I don’t understand that. You know, I don’t understand why we have such a problem, because there have been a number of surveys of veterans. And overall, veterans who do get treated are satisfied with their treatment. … Now, nobody would believe that from the coverage that you see, and the constant berating of the VA that comes from the Republicans, in part in pursuit of this ideological agenda that they have.

Maddow: But in part because there has been real scandal.
Clinton: There has been. But it’s not been as widespread as it has been made out to be.
– Exchange on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show,” Oct. 23, 2015

Several readers asked us to fact-check this claim, which drew sharp backlash from veterans groups and both Republican and Democratic lawmakers.

Below is one of the latest study from outside the VA which should be used as a baseline for evaluating the current state of the VA:

Lowes & Home Depot here give a 10% discount on just about all of their products to all vets, all yr long. That's certainly significant if one needs appliances or is doing a major home remodel.

Near me, Red Rock and Suncoast Hotel/ Casinos provides a buffet (yum), all day, on Veterans Day. Lines are usually long but worth the wait.

Especially if you are starving.

Major appliances are a good choice price and service wise at both chains. Local outfits can beat on service but their prices are generally somewhat higher. STAY AWAY FROM SEARS!
