The congressional Republicans are harlots, trollops and whores

The Republic whores in D.C. folded (as I predicted they would). The rolled over on their backs, drew up their knees and spread their legs.

It is bad enough when teen-age hoodlums play "chicken" but it is disgraceful when (mostly) grown men on Congressional salaries do. Not only did they fold, they did not get a single significant concession from the Pinko Stinko Liberal Progressives. Now the Pinko Stinkos know they own the government without any effective opposition.

It is a sad day for the Republic.

No need to worsen things by unfairly smearing a whole innocent group. Most of us are not even Republicans.

We demand an apology.

Hey!

That was a great double play combination during the professional women's baseball league that existed during WWII.

Reminded me of Tinkers to Evers to Cnance!

I think standing on your principles, even if you lose politically, is the lesser of two weevils. - Captain Jack Aubrey in “Master and Commander” by Patrick O’Brian

Well maybe Captain Jack didn’t say exactly that, but you get the idea. The short term is today’s headlines, then in January we will relive a new shutdown drama with more headlines. We cannot change the state run media’s propaganda, but more people are now watching Fox News and listening to Limbaugh. You might consider the current “dropped balls,” as losses, but will these losses add up to votes in 2014? Personally I think they could.

In the meantime the reality of Obamacare is hitting America between the eyes. There will undoubtedly be more and more horror stories in 2014 about people paying too much for worse insurance. For freedom lovers that is a good deal.

Peter,

I agree with you. We are in a culture of story wars.

Since the stories Congress people tell each other does not generally involve liberty as a theme, but instead compromise, getting advantages, and growing government, even when they do talk of liberty, they don't really believe it.

I expected them to cave but hoped they would not.

However, there is a new story arising from the grass. The mainstream said lack of any results from Rand Paul's filibuster was proof that the Tea Party was dead. Now they are saying the lack of any results from Ted Cruz's filibuster is proof that the Tea Party is dead. They keep repeating the Tea Party is dead.

If it is dead, why do they have to keep repeating it?

I can't remember in my lifetime when there were two libertarian filibusters in Congress that were so close to each other--and with mainstream coverage at that. That's a greater win than anything on the short-term table right now.

The status quo people in the mainstream don't realize that in their game of Democrat against Republican, with Republicans losing, the poll numbers against ALL of them are abysmal. Oh... some pundits say it. But they always say in the intention that it's the other guy's fault. They don't really believe they are being included in those numbers--starting with Obama.

There's a tipping point being reached.

New story rising.

Liberty.

Expect it.

While I'm ideologically sympathetic with those on this board, my honest impression - as someone who is intimately familiar with the workings of American government - is that most of you don't grasp the scope of what you're up against. Over the past century, the government has become so huge, so pervastive, and so powerful that it is now synonymous with the U.S. economy. Government is an organism that only knows how to grow - like a world tree that has wrapped its roots and weaved its tendrils into every corner of the planet until there is nothing left untouched. These petty squabbles today are just picking over the scraps of what's left of capitalism. The real wars were fought and lost long ago: social security, medicare, medicaid, public pensions, unemployment, welfare, disability, food stamps, public housing, farm subsidies, the income tax, the federal reserve, research grants, closed-shop unions, healthcare, government contracts, corporate tax breaks, career military, etc. It's now at the point where most citizens are receiving a significant portion of their income and living expenses through government, or would immediately lose their livelihoods if government were meaningfully curtailed. These institutions are never going away through the democratic process - the counterfactuals are too abstract for widespread appeal, and people wouldn't know how to take care of themselves anymore without them. Over a million people work in the US military alone. Another million work for the federal government. Millions are on disability. Millions are on unemployment for years. Millions more are teachers, firefighters, and police. One in 7 people are on food stamps. If we're being realistic, the fight has been over for a long time now. We lost.

Michael,

I have looked at a lot of commentary throughout this crisis and after, and I never once saw anyone say that the Tea Party is dead, or even ailing. What is said is that the relationship between the TP and the other Republicans is strained, perhaps irreparably frayed. In politics that is not anywhere near dead. Could you quote an example of this MSM repetition?

I remember reading Charles Krauthammer a couple years ago, predicting that the integration of the Tea Party with the GOP would be "harmonious." That is about par for Krauthammer's predictive success. He is good at hindsight, though.

Yep.

All the more reason to strike.

We are all about to be Eddie Willers looking at the dead core of the tree.

When I observed the institution of "baseline budgeting," in, I believe, 1974, I knew we had vety limited time to turn, or, deflect this this behemoth's snowball around.

I don't understand what you mean by "strike." There is nowhere left to go, and the system is purposely designed so you can't live outside of it or without it. Try to function not paying taxes or having a social security number - you can't.

I threw in with the oppressors when I realized the futility of resistance. The silver lining is I'm not as bad as my progressive replacement would be.

Government is like the weather. People complain about it but don't do much about it. In the last USA election Obama should have gotten his ass kicked so hard that he would have to clear his throat to fart. His Messiahship should be arrested and put on trial for crimes against humanity. But with the fluoride and the antidepressants and other drugs, people are docile.

The Oathkeepers are among the few who are actually doing something besides complaining.

Kick the gangsters 2 main parties out. Vote for Jesse Ventura for 2016.

His Messiahship has no more respect for truth than an alley cat has for marriage.

Ron Paul called it right. Being a gentleman, Ron Paul called it "political talk". I would have called it a lie.

jts it is REALLY UNBECOMING for you to always be telling Americans what they should be doing. I suppose they appreciate your sympathy, though.

The top three headlines that came up :

"Tea Party Isn't Dead..."

"Reports of Tea Party Death are Greatly Exaggerated..."

"Tea Party Not Dead..."

I will take a wild guess and say you were just writing from your own impressions, as I was. Maybe you heard that the death was being constantly reported by the MSM, from "an impassioned radio host." Maybe you read definitive obituaries from many sources, but don't remember exactly where. Commentary about commentary is a wearisome business, and it is amazing how many people make a living from it.

Michael - Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the ideas of liberty are being kept alive through storytelling. I suppose I'm doing my part as well by being a torchbearer so that our memories of freedom aren't lost forever. But they are still only ideas and concepts in the Era of Big Government in which we live. 40,000 new federal, state, and municipal laws are enacted each year in this country. How many are being repealed?

Can you offer even one potential scenario in which people could meaningfully reduce the size and role of government in the near future? I'm sorry, but I just don't see it happening in this lifetime or the next.

RB,

Sure. Remember, this is just one. There are lots.

Ted Cruz gets elected President with a Republican House and Senate.

Enterprises like Glenn Beck's efforts (but not just him) pump out lots of movies, TV shows, etc., based on libertarian values (even if socially conservative lots of times). Books, comics, news programs, etc., pushing the small government, individual liberty message.

This cultural push will be needed for the political stuff to happen and stick. But they're already doing it and growing like wildfire.

All that's easily plausible. And if it comes to pass, you will have repeals of entitlements out the gigi, starting with Obamacare.

There's a true spirit of get rid of all the bums growing right now. And it's coming from people who do not normally engage in politics. They are pissed.

I doubt you will get anything but denial of their perspective--even the reality of their numbers--in the environment you live and work in.

But go to the heartland. It's ugly. These people are not so easily manipulated into complacency by COBS, social engineering, mainstream press, and so on, when they get that mad.

I wish it were true, but as someone who works in DC and sees the creeping expansion of government every day, I just don't believe it's possible. There is too much to roll back, and more and more people become dependent on the system every day. When it comes time to get out the chopping block, nobody wants to give up their piece of the pie first because they don't know from where their next meal will come. What are these millions and millions of public employees, military employees, and welfare recipients with no private-sector skills and no jobs who used to depend on government going to do? It's so much more difficult to get off of that heroin than to get onto it. Even a Tea Party-controlled government couldn't repeal Social Security and Medicare at this point - these programs are overwhelmingly popular because everyone receives them and they're all waiting for their turn.

Yes, real. The Caucus is dead but the Tea Party regroups... dead bodies float in the Newark River nothing to do with politics).... Why the Tea Party is NOT dead...this is the same screen I saw, except t"Tea Party Dead Donor from Huffpost was added. This story is about political contributions that appear to come from deceased individuals. Only one story actually announces the death of the TP and it is a comment blog.

Carol,

Come on.

You're not really going to insist I dig up a bunch of other links when you can see they exist easily from the Google search? What part of "The Tea Party is Dead" is difficult to understand? That's just being silly. Use your eyes, woman!

Use your common sense, too. (I know you have lots of it.) Why are some people saying the Tea Party is not dead if there are not people saying it is? Right there in front of you, at that!

Man, your Progressive brainwashers have done a good job with the core storytelling. Even facts right in front of you are not enough.

Talk about a mental cybernetic system on steroids...

But you are not alone. Check this out.

According to a recent study by Progressive Yale University Professor, Dan Kahan, Tea party members know more science than non-tea partiers. He said he was surprised by this discovery and embarrassed.

He admitted he does not know a single member of the Tea Party, gets his information about it only from the mainstream media (and does not watch Fox), and also said he still doesn't like the Tea Party.

That's a real scientist, huh?

Like I said, your masters have done a very good job of indoctrination.

If there's one thing I've learned from any of this (the shutdown, potential crashes, government talons in the throats of most Americans), it's that propaganda is as important as ever. When I say "propaganda", I mean it in its original sense: the spreading of ideas.

If there is a enormous crash in the future and when the dust settles, we'll need men and women with the right ideas.

So, propagate on.

Strengthen and sharpen your storytelling skills.

You are absolutely right, Kyle. It is a battle of ideas and the most sensational, emotive representation of ideas that can be achieved.

Just hope that these people with the right ideas do not have their skull bashed in by the thugs who will run amok (for a while anyway) if the system crashes. Arm yourself.
