  1. Adonis, You say a lot of things that don't quite have the ring of truth to them and the above it is one such statement. It is hard to find actual evidence about the history of the Cordoba Mosque, as it was built so long ago, but it is evident that it was built on the site of the Church of St. Vincent after the latter was torn down. This doesn't make the Muslim conquerers worse than the Christians. The Church of St. Vincent sat on the site of a previous Roman temple and after the Reconquista, Christians converted the Cordoba Mosque back to a Christian church. Nevertheless, it was typical of Muslim conquerers to build mosques where there had been churches or non-Christian temples in a clear attempt of assert Muslim domination of an area. Here is a link to an article about some of the history. The author argues that the time of tolerance between Muslims and Christians probably occurred before the building of the Mosque. Here is the relevant quote: Here is another interesting link. It talks about "tolerance" in Medieval Spain: If modern day Muslims view the Cordoba Mosque as a sign of tolerance, that would be great. I just haven't seen any evidence of it. Darrell What you fail to mention is that the Muslims bought the Church of St Vincent and didn't take it over. Also, you fail to mention a whole chunk of history there.. You haven't found those Islamic views of Cordoba being a place of great collaboration between Muslims, Christians and Jews because you only look at sources that are biased against Islam. The fact is that without the Muslims in Spain, there would most certainly have been no renaissance and the whole idea that Ferdinand was something of a good person is outrageous.. Any person who advocates ethnic cleansing in my opinion is a savage.. Ferdinand and Isabella included..
  2. Most of the problems you have mentioned there are not due to Islam, rather they are a product of a lack of proper understanding of Islamic theology which is understandable when we consider the fact that, as mentioned previously.. Very few Muslims, especially those within the Middle East are actually properly educated Islamically, this lack of proper education coupled with the tribalism and culturalism of Muslims in these regions such as Afghanistan only leads to the disasters that are the Taliban's rule etc.. To be frank with you, I openly condemn the Muslim world for the disaster that was the rule of the Taliban.. The reason for this was because of the lack of organization of the Muslim world that allowed for their rule to continue without intervention.. However, it brings into question in particular within the Middle East as to how the intervention would take place, especially when the great majority of Muslim nations are ruled by either oppressive rogue dictators or tyrannical monarchs supported by the West and the East.. Those are the nations themselves that are requiring change too, not just the Taliban in Afghanistan.. I believe in the importance of organization, in particular believe there is a need for the creation of a trusted Muslim body, an amnesty international type organization but with a much bigger role.. To properly go in and make assessments of the situations within these nations and then to make recommendations and then lobby the Muslim world to take action and provide the education, expertise, aid and military support necessary to create these changes and actually follow through with finishing the job. My opinion is that this would be better off from a collective started from Muslims in the US, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Malaysia and Indonesia and it would be focused on bringing a balanced understanding of Islamic Ideology that is inclusive of Libertarian Ideals (which many believe to be Islamic) and it would draw legitimacy from having the backing of like minded Islamic and contemporary scholars around the Muslim world involved in the process.. It would be an Non-Governmental Organization that acts as an International Research Organization to gather the information, a Think Tank to formulate policies to deal with the issues, a Lobby Group to lobby both the Muslim and non Muslim community to take action and an Aid Organization to get that changes done. My goal in life, amongst other things is to help create such an organization.. Nevertheless, to assert as you have that Islam philosophically allows for the coming forth of groups like the Taliban and Hamas is the same as saying Western Secularism allows groups like the Nazis to come into power.. You seem to over simplify things and I'm not sure whether that's because your low level of intellect forces you to do so or whether you're just guided by hate and will try and find any excuse to incite that from others.
  3. I think you're the one in the dream world here whYNOT.. If the US Government were to ever employ WMD's against Iran, the ultimate loser in the war would not be Iran, it would be the US because in the process of trying to achieve some short lived victory, they'd have sold their souls.. The US population would not support a war against Iran which brought home the body count that will occur, and the use of WMD's would only infuriate Americans.. Aside from the use of such weapons, Iran knows exactly how to make sure that US military commanders are forced to put boots on the ground and when they do put boots on the ground, the Iranians will be waiting for them.. The Iranian military is not a push over like Saddam's was.. First you have to deal with the more than 500,000 members of the Iranian Army, Airforce and Navy.. All are well armed and well trained in conventional warfare and who are armed well enough to tie the American forces down.. Now this isn't a force that has low morale and has just finished a 10 year long war like Saddam's military did in the first Gulf War, nor have they been suffering from crippling sanctions like Saddams military did in the second Gulf War.. Then, as you're dealing with those, you have to deal with the more than 120,000 Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps.. Made up of a Naval, Ground and Airforce in addition to the Missile Corps and the the Qud's force.. All Iranian Revolutionary guardsmen are dedicated fighters who see their role as defending the 'Islamic Revolution'.. They are highly trained in guerrilla warfare and will attack targets not only in Iran, but everywhere and use their proxies like Hezbollah to do the same. In addition to that, the Quds members that are in Iraq will activate any cells they have there and start major attacks on bases still occupied by Americans.. That also doesn't take into consideration the forces they have in other places in the Middle East and the World. In addition to dealing with them.. You'll have to deal with 90,000 full time members of the Basij and more than 11,000,000 Basij reservist men and women who've been trained to fight that'll be armed and ready within 48 hours of any attack.. Such a war will never be easy for the US.. The Iranians are the home team and are a proud people.. Yes, they don't all like their government but just as Americans don't all like Obama, if the US was attacked or invaded most Americans would fight against that attack.. The fact is that they are prepared and ready for a long and bloody war.. Is the US? I doubt it.. The US population would never take another draft and that's what it would require and even then, the US would still be unsuccessful in that war.. So you're giving me a phantom quote which you recall hearing or reading somewhere that a Hamas leader made this statement.. You've not stated which Hamas leader has stated it which could be one of two being either Ismail Haniya and Khaled Mashaal and might also include Mahmoud al-Zahar. You also have failed to provide a source for your comments, claiming that you either heard it or read it.. Which one was it? Did you hear it or did you read it? Where did you read it or hear it? Before I condemn any person I definitely prefer to have much more information because neither of the two leaders of Hamas speak like that. Because the question is a fallacy. Oh please, this has been alleged long before Obama came into office and CAIR was not prosecuted under the Bush administration either.. It's easy to accuse people of such crimes but not so easy to prove it.. The FBI has been keeping tabs on CAIR for a very long time and still no evidence has been found.. Because your questions are a fallacy. Blanket condemnation is a silly idea because what exactly are you condemning about Hamas? It's resistance to the occupation of Palestinian lands? The attacks against the Israeli military? The suicide bombings etc? You have to be more specific. During the time that Hamas was promoting suicide bombings I most certainly condemned their organization and their tactics. However, since the changes of leadership in the organization which brought with it the commitment to come to a peace agreement with the Israelis and the change of tactics used in both trying to avoid harming unarmed Israeli civilians in addition to the cessation of suicide bombings I have no more reason to condemn them.. I believe that an organization never stays in one state and evolves, especially with changes in leadership.. At one point they can be an organization definitely worth condemning but later on, if they change their ways they can be free from such condemnation.
  4. Which head of Hamas said that? And when? And do you have the direct quote that I can either listen to or read in Arabic? Also, I did answer the question.. I condemn all attacks intending to harm unarmed Israelis.. Well, firstly, I don't think they're Taliban, which is a problem as the Americans and rest of the world tend to heap all of the resistance groups that are against the occupation into the Taliban category which is incorrect.. Secondly, the Taliban explicitly forbade Osama bin Laden from launching operations against the US and using Afghanistan as a base for it. That was a condition of him being able to stay there. In addition to that, after the attacks when the US Government demanded the Taliban hand bin Laden over, the Taliban asked for the evidence linking bin Laden to the attacks and said they'd even hang him themselves if they found it were true that he did that.. But the US Government supported by most US Citizens, in all their arrogance simply wanted blood and revenge.. There was no wish for real justice and unfortunately this seems to still be the case for most Americans today.. So they essentially said to the Taliban, "We're America, we don't need to give evidence even though we'd expect evidence to extradite an American indicted on crimes in another country so hand him over" (paraphrased). And the Taliban did the right thing by refusing to hand Osama over, I even agree with that action of theirs because no matter how backwards their understanding and practice of Islam is and no matter how much I despise Osama, they stuck to the Islamic thing to do and that was to ask for evidence first to ensure that no person was going to be held accountable for crimes that they didn't commit.. That is what proper American justice should have been.. It's embarrassing that some 'cave dwellers' had to show the Americans this lesson.. That is what justice is.. Almost ten years of war which will have all been wasted as a failure that cost the American tax payer billions could have all been avoided if the US Government and the people demanded justice rather than blood.. But of course, the 9/11 attacks weren't the real reason the US Government had decided to go into Afghanistan was it? Of course not.. The decision was to do so was made before 9/11. Also, the Afghan people have never really liked occupiers, they've tolerated them on occasion when having them benefited them but eventually they are all opposed and run out.. I said from the beginning of this war in 2001 that this was the most retarded of all decisions ever made, did the US Government not learn from the British Empire and Soviet Union's failed attempts to occupy this country? They should have at least learnt from the Soviet's experience because they assisted the Afghan people against them. They thought they'd go in there and it'd be all over but clearly that's not the case, and even as they routed the Taliban I said, it's guerrilla warfare which they've had thousands of years practice at, they head to the mountains and fight from there the best way they know how.. And everyone around me was gleeful at the false idea that the US was somehow successful in taking Afghanistan.. What utter nonsense.. The US and ISAF will leave with their tails between their legs just like the rest.. Afghanistan can never really be taken.. I would say according to your definition, that during the period that Hamas did carry out suicide bombings they most certainly were a terrorist organization.. However, this is no longer the case, they no longer use this tactic and their attacks are no longer directed at harming unarmed Israeli citizens therefore, according to your own definition that would mean that Hamas is no longer a terrorist organization. Also, according to your definition Israel is a terrorist state due to its blockade (an act of war) which is targeted mainly at the Gazan population to force to turn against their elected leaders (Hamas).
  5. Isn't Rauf somehow connected to the globalists? Shayne http://www.prisonplanet.com/ground-zero-mosque-imam-is-globalist-stooge.html I called into the Alex Jones show a couple of days ago and discussed this article.. I think Steve Watson jumped the gun on it majorly and instead of proper research he just connected dots and jumped to conclusions without even seeking comments from the Imam which he should have done. I don't believe he's a Globalist Stooge, I went to the Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow conference in 2009 in Qatar and saw the work of Imam Feisal.. He's not at all like that. Sure, he has done interfaith outreach to the CFR but that is in the interests of the Muslim community, to ensure that our religion isn't misinterpreted by all. In addition to that, I called the American Society for Muslim Advancement and they told me to send an email through detailing the concerns of the article so that Imam Feisal can address the issue when he comes back from overseas. I will also try and get Imam Feisal to appear on the Alex Jones show for an interview. Alex Jones stated on air if he was wrong about it then, he'll make an apology.
  6. That's a tough question. I suppose reading it and learning about the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him led me to believe that the contents of the Qur'an could only have been from God because it was so advanced for its time. So perfect and so just. Because, right now it is convenient to blame Muslims to be able to push the globalist agenda. They'll use any chance they can.. That's a good question.. I'll start a new thread explaining it..
  7. Not so, there are many well respected scholars on Islam that are not Muslim, who've actually taken the time to do the appropriate research etc. It's hard to quantify because most know a little about something and others know something about a little.. But in terms of Muslims around the world that have a proper understanding of Islam. I'd say that firstly, most are in the West and are probably some of the biggest Muslim scholars in the West.. Well it is necessary, but it's a big big topic.. It's easier if people ask questions about Shariah so that those who do have knowledge on the subject can respond to it.. Unless of course you'd like to get educated as to what Islamic law states, it's a big course.. To be really competent I believe it requires more than 20 years of study, to the status of Mufti for 'Sunnis' and Ayatollah for 'Shia'. These are the only groups that we consider are suitable to make religious edicts on the issues. That's not to say that all Ayatollahs and Muftis are correct, sometimes the name of such is handed out very loosely depending on geographical location and I'd also never trust the opinion of a Mufti from particular schools such as the Wahhabi or Salafi school, also I don't accept religious edicts relating to politics from any Ayatollah that believes in Wilayat al Faqih as being a legitimate system of government. It should be dwelt on and addressed.. It's an incredibly important issue that the Muslim community needs to deal with. But I don't think demonizing Islam is the way to do it.. A lot of the Muslim world are uneducated as to what Islam says and instead blindly follow what their society, tribe and culture tells them that Islam says.. OR worse still, follow people who are guided by hate.. Well, I think a lot of Muslims do, at least the ones I've met.. Not that we agree on all things.. But things are also changing.. I'm coming across more and more Muslims that are Libertarians and believe that Islam and Libertarianism are both very close.. And of course, I've started making my own efforts to educate the community.. I've been doing that with the general community here and I've also been trying to contact the Chechen leadership as well as former fighters to share these ideas with them. I believe they will be well received by the Chechen people. Also, I apologize about not getting back to you on that.. I did make a reply and sent it a few weeks ago but my Safari shut down and it didn't save which was right before I went to university that day and I completely forgot about redoing it. In my opinion, those hadiths firstly come from books that I don't take hadith from because I don't trust the authenticity of them. Next, in terms of the quotes, I don't believe the punishment of adultery is suitable for homosexual acts between people that are not committing adultery and instead are committing fornication like it describes unmarried men. There are different punishments for adultery than there are to fornication and I believe that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him has made that distinction very clearly. So within an Islamic State there would be punishments to those who are under accountable to Islamic law (which doesn't include all people within the state) who are convicted of a crime on the testimony of four reliable witnesses who testify to all have seen the same event at the same time as each other. The next quote about those men who mimic women and vice versa as being cursed is a complex issue. I don't think it's just talking about men who are acting effeminate and women who act masculine, rather I think it also has something to do with men who dress like women (especially to get into places where men have no right to be) and vice versa. Also, the issue of tansgender people has been addressed by many scholars who've stated that in some cases, it's acceptable for some people to have gender reassignment surgery done. It's a hotly debated topic but it does occur, even in Iran.. In fact, probably only in Iran.. It's not hard to see why.. In Islam we believe the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him is the example for all people to follow, that he was the most perfect example of what a person should be and he is loved and revered by all Muslims. So which people who love and revere something would not be offended when that thing is insulted so savagely? No.. It couldn't.. I'd never expect an Objectivist who reveres Ayn Rand to do something similar with her.. That would be wrong It depends, a lot of scholars say it is, some say it isn't. I'd personally avoid it.. The reason I and many scholars suggest to avoid it is because when you personify a Prophet of God as a picture, it invariably leads to racism like that which was done with the Roman style paintings of Jesus, peace be upon him. Well probably not, due to the reasons above.. Yes, for some the reaction would have been to that, but the real kick to the testaculars was the inflammatory nature of the cartoons.. They were intended to offend, and offend they did.
  8. You're correct, the issue of abrogation is more complex than is being let on. The way that the Qur'an was collated and compiled as a book was not the way it was intended.. Instead of it being put together in a specific order, the compilers simply put them in order of largest to smallest which was certainly a very devious thing to do. However, it is possible, with the right studies to go through and find which verses were revealed at what time and the context which they were revealed. A really good version of the Qur'an I like does this well. It is called The Meaning of the Glorious Qur'an: Explanatory Translation. By Pickthall. This is an excellent one because it explains the context and time that they were revealed as well as any other issues which is very handy. Also, I just found a nice little book on the Qur'an on a website that you may find interesting and helpful. It's called An Introduction to the Glorious Qur'an. I didn't get a chance to read through it in depth but so far it looks okay. Also, in terms of Taqiyya Robert.. The assertion about the 'Shia' is not quite so accurate.. The opinion of Taqiyya for both 'Shia' and 'Sunni' is the same, it's just that a lot of the Salafis, Wahhabis and some of the more hardcore 'Sunnis' tend to try and discredit 'Shia' by asserting that 'Shia' lie about the tenets of their faith which is in fact not true.
  9. Hi Shayne, I didn't come here initially as a person that was interested in objectivism, rather I came here after I was invited to this forum after I wrote on the SOLOP website responding to Lindsay Perigo's savagery towards Muslims and I've kind of been here ever since and intend to stay so long as I can be of benefit. I have found Objectivism to be quite interesting and it's also just as interesting to see the diverse opinions amongst Objectivists. Now for your question, why am I Muslim? That's a good question.. I'm a Muslim because I believe that after reading the Qur'an, that it is the literal word of God passed down through the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. I came to Islam through firstly reading the Autobiography of Malcolm X and then through further study until I believed it was correct. What key values in Islam are important to me? I really consider Islam's staunch position on justice and the obligation of Muslims to stand up for it no matter what the circumstances are, or who is involved to be vitally important to me. That is perhaps the most important to me. Shayne, perhaps before just believing this video, you can also take a look at what Muslims believe Taqiyya is. It's nothing like is described there. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
  10. There are also a couple of videos of Sheikh Al-Qaradawi, whom Rauf admires and considers to be "a very very well known Islamic jurist, highly regarded all over the Muslim world" (that quote is from the video). This is one of the videos from the jurist Rauf admires so much. The Islamic jurist, Al-Qaradawi, claims that Hitler was divine punishment for the corruption of the Jews. And goes much further <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Here is the transcript of that video (there is a stamp that appears after a fade-out/fade-in at about 40' saying "Al Jazeera TV (Qatar) January 28, 2009"). This is a warning sign. And on a side note, people like Al-Qaradawi (and possibly Rauf, since he admires this creep so much), have it backwards. Hitler was not an instrument of Allah. Al-Qaradawi and people who follow him are instruments of Hitler, dragging Islam through the muck of Nazism, even to the point of openly preaching murder. Michael 1. The US DOES have more Muslim blood on its hands than Al Qaeda has non Muslim blood, there is no doubt about that. 2. The issue about virgins is silly. He stated that you get whatever you want in Heaven.. Sex isn't considered a sin in Islam and is a good thing so why shouldn't you be able to have it in heaven? Although why any woman would want 1000 male virgins would astound me? They'd have to all be naturals I'm assuming. 3. He said the N word yes, but he was using it as an example of how skin color becomes divisive in communities.. You heard it clearly yourself.. I'm not sure how that can be taken as derogatory? 4. Regarding the Madrid and London bombings.. I, and many other people including many non Muslim Americans believe that those attacks, as well as 9/11 were false flag operations by elements of the CIA and their creation Al Qaeda to justify war and the big profits it produces for the international bankers, pharmaceutical companies and military industrial complex and to justify removing more and more liberties from the people. I'm not sure if that's what Imam Feisal Rauf believes.. 5. Islam doesn't need reformation.. Muslims do yes, but Islam doesn't. I guess the important thing to do is actually go forth and read the full transcript rather than just the bits that have been taken out to get the full context.. Also, regarding Qaradawi, he was not giving unfettered support to him. In fact I believe that Qaradawi and Abdul Rauf disagree on a great number of issues.. Sure they agree on some and whilst I don't agree with everything Qaradawi says, I do agree with some, even though it's very little.
  11. Darrel, Cordoba for Muslims is not seen as a place of Islamic triumph over conquered territories, rather it is seen as a place where different religious groups, Jews, Christians and Muslims worked together and created a society that flourished and brought in some of the greatest advancements in the sciences during that short period.. That is what it is referring to.. The notion that we'd celebrate our conquests like you assert is silly.. I can't think of any types of occasions where we celebrate conquest, not even the conquest of Mecca which is our holiest site.. You're question Robert as to whether Sufis support it is a good question, but as Sufis are not a particular group like 'Shia' or 'Sunnis' can be divided and instead are in both it is hard to answer. I would say that the majority of those that hold 'Sufi' ideals do not support the ideas of Wilayat al Faqih. As you said, the ideas of Wilayat al Faqih (Governance of the Scholars) were created by Khomenei, prior to this the majority of the 'Shia' believed and most still do believe in the ideals of Wilayat al Ummah (Governance of the People). Also, I'm not sure how many people here actually understand what Sufism actually is? It's not a category of Muslim like 'Sunni' or 'Shia' where there are specific beliefs separating the groups, rather Sufism is more of a spiritual aspect of Islam that gets addressed.. Some would argue that it would be somewhat of a spiritual chivalry to complement physical chivalry.. But there are various orders etc and it's all quite complex to simply add the label 'sufi' to things as Sufis can range from Whirling Dervishes to those of the Chechen (and previously the Bosnian) Mujahideen that are not Wahhabi or Salafi..
  12. Subject: Brief Responses to Adonis Then what would the purpose be? It's a public display designed to gain attention.. If we're dealing with this in house there is no need for such a thing. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I was referring to the non-Muslim community viewing it as for their benefit and as being insincere. Islam is more complex than you've taken the time to try and understand, the divisions and differences of opinion take years to understand, but you don't even seem to be trying to make the least bit of effort to learn about what these labels are. Perhaps to you it doesn't, but again.. You're not a Muslim and haven't spent time studying about it.. We believe that if you do a good deed in public to gain the praise and attention of others, that you are not going to get as many blessings from God for it, rather you're publicizing of your good deeds may even bring to question for what reason you did those deeds.. Was it so people can say 'look at that man, he donated so much money' and they will love you for it, or do you do it so you can help people? Excuse me Philip, but if you think you can speak for people as to what should be offensive to them and what shouldn't be then you're not thinking straight.. Being offended is subjective.. I find certain things offensive when they attack something that I have emotional investment or devotion towards, so if someone insults it.. I will be offended.. That doesn't mean that you should feel offended by those insults if you don't have the same investment or devotion to that particular thing.. Similarly, you can't tell me what I can and can't be offended by.. Yes, there was a huge movement amongst Muslims condemning the threats, attacks and riots.. No, we're not happy about the cartoons, but violence isn't the way to deal with this. Most Muslims that did demonstrate, demonstrated peacefully. Yes there are extremists who got a lot of attention who even burned down the embassy in Lebanon but to be frank, these groups represent such a minute amount of the 1.5 billion strong Muslim community in the world. That's not what I was referring to and that is very clear as the comment was under the quote of you saying that Muslims should reprint those offensive cartoons.. Everyone should stand up for justice and human rights, in fact it's in the Qur'an as an obligation of Muslims.. Again, this comment was under yours asking Muslims to reprint the cartoons.. You seem to either not understand that or are attempting to misconstrue what I've said. Oh no, you are like a Wahhabi.. They too expect non Muslims to subjugate themselves... Even to wear particular clothes and 'acknowledge' that their religious beliefs are inferior to Islam.. If you're asking me to reprint those cartoons you're asking me to do the same thing.. And I did call those on SoloP Wahhabis too.. That was a point I made before too.. There are extremists out there that push the idea that the US is at war with Islam, and that this is the reason for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.. If this mosque were banned or attacked, extremists would use this as a rallying cry and tool to recruit people who would otherwise not join them.. I believe that this will still be beneficial for the US.. The mosque will be built and it will prove that the US has religious freedoms..
  13. Shayne, if someone told you, an Objectivist (if you are of course) that the only way for you to prove yourself as a good American, you had to insult all of your own beliefs and in particular insult Ayn Rand, how would you take that? Of course it's subjugation and asking you to not only submit, but to humiliate yourself also. Now, if your friend said he'd kill you if the prophet told him to, then your friend follows things blindly and neither uses logic nor reasoning.. If the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him told me to kill an innocent person.. I wouldn't believe he was a prophet.. In fact there was a statement I think from the Mufti of Syria if I'm not mistaken that said if the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him told us to do terrorism or commit murder, he wouldn't consider him a prophet because that is not the behavior of a prophet. Next, you say you asked a question.. What question was that? I will assume it was: I partly answered this, but perhaps you were not satisfied with the answer so I'll go into more depth on the issue. Islam stands for individual rights.. During the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him's life he did stand for individual rights including the rights to free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, women's rights, no spying programs on citizens etc. I don't see how being a Muslim I couldn't stand for individual rights.. Also, you ask, do I want Shariah everywhere? What is your understanding of Shariah? It's important to define this I believe as a yes or no could be misinterpreted. Lastly, I'm not sure what you've been informed of but I don't consider Dubai to be a place that has Islamic law.
  14. Ah the age old question.. Does one condemn Hamas as a terrorist organization? I had a feeling someone might ask.. I hope you're not looking for a Yes or No answer to that.. I believe there are more than 100 different definitions for terrorism out there so to respond to you with a yes or no, would be unbecoming of anyone that has any intellect. Unless of course, you're a shock jock on the radio or Bill O'Reilly and in those cases the general public seems to accept it.. Which is just stupid and simply a game I don't wish to play. In an article for the NY Times Bruce Hoffman noted: "terrorism is a pejorative term. It is a word with intrinsically negative connotations that is generally applied to one's enemies and opponents, or to those with whom one disagrees and would otherwise prefer to ignore. (...) Hence the decision to call someone or label some organization 'terrorist' becomes almost unavoidably subjective, depending largely on whether one sympathizes with or opposes the person/group/cause concerned. If one identifies with the victim of the violence, for example, then the act is terrorism. If, however, one identifies with the perpetrator, the violent act is regarded in a more sympathetic, if not positive (or, at the worst, an ambivalent) light; and it is not terrorism." So as you can see it's a loaded question that takes on the assumption that a terrorist organization has a specific meaning.. However, if we're looking at terrorism as a specific tactic. That is, a type of guerrilla warfare aimed at harming the infrastructure that is used by a government, army or organization as it was used in the US War of Independence to gain freedom for Americans from the British and establish the USA. Which was a good thing.. Or as it was used in Afghanistan to push the Communists occupiers out of that country.. Or as it was and still is taught to Western intelligence agencies like MI6 and the CIA as well as special forces units like the British Special Air Service and the US' Delta Force to use on Russia should Russia ever attack then that is, in my opinion, a legitimate tactic of warfare. So the question is, when is this tactic justified to be used? I believe it is justified when the tactic is used to try and destroy, impede or remove the ability for a government, army or organization to wage an unjust oppression against innocent people.. I can also say very clearly that even though I am not a part of the military apparatus of New Zealand nor even a citizen here, if New Zealand (God forbid) were to ever be attacked and invaded then I would most certainly resist such an invasion and would definitely employ those 'terrorist' tactics against the occupying army, its infrastructure and any puppet government they tried to set up here. Of course, that is conditional.. It's not just a free for all.. In any type of warfare, including this type of guerrilla warfare I do condemn and would never support nor partake in any attack intended at harming unarmed civilians not engaged in warfare against me and believe the most utmost care should be taken to avoid casualties of unarmed civilians.. That would include condemning attacks that are directed at harming unarmed Israelis..
  15. LOL.. A lot of the work the Muslim community does against extremism is in house work. We don't do marches just for show to please non-Muslims and to reassure them that we're not all terrorists nor are we the supporters of terrorists.. Would it be a good idea to do such a thing? Yes, perhaps it would be.. But then again it'd also be dismissed by most as doing it for the benefit of non-Muslims and as being insincere and therefore, is an impossible position to be in, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.. Also, to expect Muslims to be openly against Shariah is to then also assume that all Muslims also have the same interpretation of Shariah as you do which is a very poor assumption that ignorant people (like yourself) make. We don't have the same opinions and understanding as you do about Shariah because the majority of Muslims that know anything about Shariah understand that the way that you interpret it is in fact incorrect and unislamic. Next, many Muslims have given to 9/11 victims funds, however we don't do it as something public because we believe that when you publicize your good deeds, you lose the blessings from God in your charity as you're then only doing it for show.. And why on earth would you ever assume that any right minded Muslim would reprint those cartoons? They were very offensive to us. Yes, we believe in freedom of speech and won't stop you from printing them, but we won't humiliate ourselves by reprinting them.. What you want Philip, and I suspect many people like you also want the same is not Muslims to be anti-terrorism or anti-extremism.. What you want from Muslims is complete and utter submission to you.. You want to subjugate us and you want us to feel inferior to yourself.. What you want, is for Muslims to feel humiliated.. That is very evident from your comments.. You're just like a Wahhabi..
  16. I love Ron Paul.. It was him who made me want to be an American and a Libertarian.. May God reward him infinitely and keep him in good health.
  17. Because Iraq is 60% 'Shia' and they have a very close relationship to Iran, especially for the years that Iran helped Iraqi 'Shia' against Saddam, especially in providing them sanctuary etc.
  18. Oh please, Kenya? Kenya is not Somalia and people live good lives there. I have many Kenyan friends and they would be offended at the assertion that someone would have to flee from there. That is precisely why the government of the Netherlands wasn't accepting refugees from Somalia that came from Kenya.. Nevertheless, the point is, she lied for her own benefit, not only to simply get refugee status, but also in her book and other times.. To gain money and fame. So why should I believe anything she says? Male circumcision is actually compulsory in Islam and I'm not even going to bother arguing that with you because we're both it's not illegal and is not harmful and parents are legally allowed to choose it for their children.. I will most certainly get my sons circumcised. Next, to your point that a hoodectomy is FGM.. Female Genital Mutilation is illegal in many countries like the USA and UK and most of the world in fact, however you can still get a hoodectomy in these countries.. I. Dr Alter’s work is mentioned in the article in, “I Had Cosmetic Surgery on My Genitals,” Marie Claire magazine, February, 2000. The article lists "clitoroplasty" as one of the available genital surgeries, and provides the following definition of "clitoroplasty": “The hood of the clitoris is removed for heightened sensitivity.” (Most references to “clitoroplasty” in medical journals and reports reserve this term for the shaping of a clitoris in cases of infants with ambiguous genitals, or for those seeking sex changes from male to female.) Dr. Alter’s work is also mentioned in “The New Sex Surgeries,” Cosmopolitan magazine, November, 1998, p.146. Dr. Alter explicates his special technique for labiaplasty in “A New Technique for Aesthetic Labia Minora Reduction,” Annals of Plastic Surgery 40, 1998, p. 287. Dr. Alter also published an article reporting a follow-up study of his own patients' degree of satisfaction with their results in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery 2008 Dec. 122(6), 1780-9. I don't think you understand the repercussions of saying a Muslim is not a Muslim.. In Islam we believe that to do so is a very serious accusation and if we're wrong, that God will consider us not Muslim.. So I am very careful not to simply label people like that.
  19. Yes, agreed. See, this is an assumption that I disagree with, it assumes that Israel's tactics would have developed further over the past 4 years whereas but doesn't really consider that Hezbollah's would have too, as a guerrilla force, Hezbollah's tactics are constantly changing and adapting to new threats. Their weapons and communications systems are also being upgraded too. By going up in flames, I don't mean just by nuclear weapons.. I mean the region will become a war zone and it won't be limited to Iran.. Iraq will be drawn in, as will Syria because in an attempt to stop arms and fighters pouring into Lebanon, Israel will attack Syria. Are you kidding? Little collateral damage? If Israel doesn't attack within the next few days the 'collateral damage' will be similar to that of Chernobyl. And even if they do attack beforehand, do you think it will just stop there? Iran will respond with force as their country would have just been bombed. It would be too late by then. I doubt this also.. The Iranians would never accept this. Of course No no, I appreciate your comments.

  21. I believe there should be no prohibition whatsoever on the building of Churches or Synagogues or any place devoted to the worship of God anywhere, especially in Mecca. The Middle East is the birthplace of the Abrahamic religions and things are changing slowly in the Middle East with Qatar allowing the building of churches.. Change will come incrementally there.. And for the record, even if you believe the BS story of 9/11 those terrorists were just terrorists (which I don't).. They didn't represent any faith and have been condemned by the overwhelming majority of Muslims and especially Muslim scholars and their actions have been shown to be unislamic.. We lost Muslims on 9/11 too who were innocent civilians working in the WTC Complex and first responders trying to rescue innocent people.. Why are people trying to separate us from the USA exactly? You can be a good Muslim and a good American, in fact that's Imam Abdul Rauf's point, the title of his book of course is 'What's Right with Islam IS what's Right with the America'. So why is this even an issue? American Muslims are American Muslims.. They're citizens and deserve the same rights as any American, including the right to build places of worship on our own land, wherever that is. I'm particularly disgusted with Libertarian candidates that are so opposed to this mosque being built.. To them I say, if you're not willing to accept Muslims as citizens with full rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness then please remove the word Libertarian from any way you describe yourself. This isn't a democracy, it's a Constitutional Republic that guarantees those rights.. That's why so many Muslims love America and want to live there.
  22. Haha I thought so, I just wanted to make sure before I addressed it.. Didn't want to insult your beliefs and all that jazz
  23. Hi there sjw, Thank you for your question. I think it depends on your understanding of Shariah.. I don't believe that Shariah law is the way the Taliban, Saudi Arabia, Iran or any other nation in the Middle East and claims to have Shariah is actually correct Islamically.. Their understanding of Shariah is limited to their very limited understanding of Islam itself. I believe that individual rights are enshrined in Islam.
  24. Oh, hmmmm what is toto? What do I believe? I believe God is the Creator, Engineer, Author, Maintainer and Sustainer of all that is in existence. He is All Knowing, All Powerful and having no equals, no sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters etc. He needs not rest, nor slumber.. Nor anything to sustain Him..
  25. What an absolute load of rubbish. 1. When the Iranians took the Americans as prisoners from the embassy it was BECAUSE they were under covert attack from the US as they'd overthrown the US installed dictator the Shah who came into power in the 1950's after the US CIA and British MI6 overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran through Operation AJAX which included terrorist bombings on civilian targets. The US government did not get those prisoners taken back because a tougher government was elected.. The US government had to, amongst other things, promise to never again interfere with Iran's internal affairs which was a part of the Algiers Accords. 2. The Islamic Community Center known as Cordoba House is a 13 story building. The fact is that only two floors, the two top floors are going to be a Masjid where as the rest of the other 11 floors will be a community center that includes sports facilities, swimming pools, culinary schools, lecture theatres and even a memorial to the victims of 9/11, of which there were many Muslims who both worked in the WTC complex or were rescue workers. It is a place where all people will be welcome, not only Muslims.. Just as a YMCA is open to all. 3. The other Masjid mentioned is not big enough to support it's current requirements. 4. The notion that every time Muslims take over a country we take the most revered places and put a masjid there is ridiculous.. That hasn't been proven at all and hasn't occurred in most cases.. For example, did we take over all of the Christian Churches in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine? No. I also hardly call an old coat factory the most important and revered place in the US. 5. I also find the comparison that building this community center two blocks from the WTC complex to building a Japanese Shinto temple outside of Pearl Harbor after the attacks to be ridiculous. First of all, there was no 'state' that was responsible like there was for the Pearl Harbor attacks. Secondly, what if Chinese or Tibetan Bhuddists had wanted to make a temple there? Would their rights have been infringed? 6. The example of Saudi Arabia's religious tolerance is a stupid one, most Muslims around the world disagree with these policies and they weren't enacted by the Prophet Muhammad pbuh rather they were put in after his death by people who had no right to rule in the first place. Do you want to compare a great nation that was founded on religious freedoms like the USA to an ass backwards nation founded on intolerance like Saudi Arabia? Are we lowering our standards that much? 7. Hundreds of Millions of Muslims don't call for the death to America and the death to Israel in mosques every week. It happens in Iran but not at all mosques either.. And the Death to America and Death to Israel that is preached is not calling for the death of Americans as a whole nor Israelis.. It's calling for the death of the Imperialism that has been and continues to be practiced. 8. Which laws would need to be changed to suit Muslims in a properly Libertarian nation like was the intentions of those like Jefferson where the government didn't get involved with your personal life? How do you define Sufi? I think you may have some misunderstanding about what being a Sufi is, it's not mutually exclusive from being a 'Sunni' or a 'Shia' and I don't see what the problem would be with having such ties would be? Those 'Sunnis' and 'Shia' that follow the tenets of Islam wouldn't be extremists so why the objection? Well no, that's not the case thus far.. Paterson has floated the idea but Imam Abdul Rauf hasn't met with him nor has there been communication between the two. I'd be disappointed and surprised if such a deal was accepted.. And to be frank, I'm disgusted with the behavior of such people who want to stop this from being built.. The actions are so contradictory to the ideas of the Founding Fathers and it's like they want to make Muslim and American mutually exclusive.. Didn't American Muslims die in the attacks? Weren't American Muslims victims too? Weren't we also sent to war as soldiers of the US military in Afghanistan and Iraq? Didn't we volunteer to work as translators of Dari and Pashto to help the efforts, putting our own lives in danger? Haven't we also been instrumental in stopping other terrorist attacks by getting involved in the criminal justice system? Such Americans need to get over these attitudes and stop seeing us as an alien group.. We're not.. We're as much a part of the US as any group and to treat us differently will only result in the US becoming like places such as France.. That's what occurs when you alienate part of your society and treat them like dirt, like criminals and terrorists.. That is what you make them..
