Chris,
If Rand had commented on Kant, Hume and Hegel, I assume these comments would have been included.
As you say, one doesn't get the impression that Rand was well read. In fact, I think it is evident that she wasn't.

Neil; I think she read some things but not others at different times in her life.
Maybe it was hard for her to multi-task. -
I wish him many more years, but I've always found him annoying.
-NEIL
Neil; I understand why you say that.

The Rosenberg sons have admitted their father was a spy.
They don't seem to grasp anything else. -
There is an excellent article in the LA Times by Ronald Radish who with Joyce Milton wrote the definitive book on the Rosenberg case.
Radish expresses the hope that the extreme Left will admit the guilt of the Rosenberg's. I will not hold my breath waiting for that event. -
The orginial court rejected the first of this group of appeals. This case goes back to the federal courts.

The Washington Post reports today that the Prince George's Sheriff Department said they did nothing wrong in the killing of the dogs. The feeling you are experiencing is called non-surprise.

Cato is having an event on Sept 11 at 4pm about swat team raids. I plan to be there for it but if you can't get to Cato you can watch the event at Cato.com. The mayor whose dogs were killed is one of the panelists.

Why did Star Trek have the effect it had on our culture?
That are a huge number of shows that lasted longer and had better ratings. Is it because it was about space? -
Chris,
The incompetence of the PGC Police, the arrogance of their chief (refusing to apologize and reluctantly clearing the Mayor and his wife's name)makes my blood boil. I've written several letters to the department expressing my outrage but have not yet received a response. Unbelievable!
Mick
Mick; I am not surprised at your not getting any reply. Chris
Yesterday another shooting by a Prince George's policeman this time ending in the death of an Hispanic male. The Hispanic male is supposed to have tried to grab either the officer's night stick or his gun. Probably the crime was being drunk while brown.

Chris,
Why do you want Senator Edwards to submit to a DNA test regarding the parentage of the child? What difference does it make? Whatever the result, he's a lying sack of shit scum-bag. I could care less who he fucks or whether he may or may not have fathered a child with some bimbo not his wife.
Mick
Mick; I want John Edwards to pay child support if he is the father. Chris

I find it very tacky that John says he started the affair when his wife was in remission.

I think Larson's Summer for the Gods is supposed to be the best book on the subject.

Larson's book is very good.

Jesus, Chris, details man, details!!!
Examples. Explanations. Favorite event and why?? Favorite lecture and some notes on it??
Phil; I had some things I had to deal with here at home. I hope to get to it this week. Chris

I did not hear All Fall Down mentioned at the event.
AFI Life Achievement Awards are a little too self-congratulatory for me. -
The latest polls are suggesting the Presidential election may not be close.

There is a new report showing eleven GOP Senate seats in play.

Julian; Let me say again what an addition you are to OL. I did not notice if you included "The Politics of War" by Walter Karp. I am very much in agreement with your point about our entry into World War I.
It's a pleasure to see someone so young who is so bright. -
Mr. Russell; Where was I thoughtless and mean spirited. I think if you ask other people on this forum if I am thoughtless and mean spirited on any issue. I of course do not cancer on anyone. I had good things to say about Sen Kennedy. Really Mr. Russell!Chris Grieb: "I have mention that with the news there is a group who is more upset than others. That is the right wing mailers. With Teddy being gone who can they warn as their menace. For left-wing mailer had the same feeling when Jesse Helms left the Senate."I don't know, I suppose W is far more of a lightening rod than the racist and homophobic Jesse Helms. As for Senator Kennedy, I have lost loved ones to cancer; my heart grieves for him and for those who care about him. I know most on this board don't share Kennedy's politics, but as for me, I wouldn't wish cancer on my worst enemy.
Shame on you Mr. Grieb for your thoughtless and mean spirited post.
And don't worry folks, this is the end.

For the first time in many years I missed them.
I am pleased about the Best Actress award. Edith Piaf was a very interesting person and had a real life. That is one movie I want to see.Daniel Day-Lewis part is from an Upton Sinclair novel. It wasn't very good when it was new and the story has not gotten better. -
Liestoppers has links to the filings about this suit. One of the new allegations is that Duke knew that was nothing to the charges.

Jody; It sounds like Heath Ledger was taking too many different kinds of pills.
I still can't hate Heath but like many I wish he had thought more. -
Jody; I still believe in the presumption of innocence. I was wondering about the possibility of something happening to Heath Ledger as happened to Pistol Pete Maravich who played great basketball but died of a long standing heart aliment which was never found.
-
Chris,
I debated this with my wife tonight. He had a child. How do you define coward? I define it , "Heath...whatever his name is."
Jody; I haven't seen the latest information on Heath's case. For that reason I am not going to condemn him and stand by my statement that the story is sad.
The last line of Brokeback Mountain is "Jack I swear".
The Heath Ledger story is still sad whatever he died of.Watching Brokeback again less than an hour ago I was reminded what a wonderful performance Heath's was.

I heard a few people say at the time of the first trial that if OJ was convicted there would be riots. I haven't heard of any riots this time.
