    Incurant

Is "INCURANT"an English word or not? I use this word a lot when I write in Italian. It means not to care about something,or someone. For example, " Michael is incurant of Kat's warnings to ware a hat" ;) Or, "INCURANT of the soffering of thousand of people the mayor keeps telling lies to his CONCITTADINI" Here is another Italian word concittadino-i it means Italian citzen-s from the same town, which could be translated in English as "CONCITZENS" I wish they would add words like these to the Enghish language. 3. Oh! yes, I forgot to mention, Rich, don't drink it with Oysters and ice cream. I also use Chianti as hemmoroids pain reliever, mouth wash, shampoo, floor degreaser, toilet cleaner, and in babies formula.
  4. Rich:I find that a really good move at some Italian restaurants is to simply order Chianti That is a very good idea, Rich. Chianti goes with any kind of food, there is something miraculous about this wine. By itself it can be uninspiring, but put it on the table with food and all the flavors wake up. One thing I would suggest though, is that when you go to a real Italian restaurant, find out what part of Italy the owner is from, and see if they offer any wine from that region. Usually they do, and it is wine as good as famous Italian ones and costs much less. Ciao.
  5. How to enjoy different types of wine without losing any of their flavors. When I have an important dinner, I love to have different types of wine on the table. The ideal would be to drink a different wine for every dish. For those of you who are not experts, the rule to follow is to serve the white wines before the reds, the rose’ before the reds and after the whites. White wines are less structured and have less tannins that reds, which if drank before the whites it would anesthetize our palate causing the white wine to taste like water. Young wines must be served before older ones continuing always with older ones. Light wines must be served before the ones that have more body and are more structured. Wine having higher alcohol is served after wine that has less alcohol. Colder wines before warmer ones (an exception is made with sparkling wines like prosecco, and spumanti when drank as aperitif) this is so, because wines with higher temperature release more flavors and aroma. Dry wines must be served before sweet wines. I would love to read personal experiences when dining out at nice restaurants. Ciro.
  6. Mike, Rearden was not morally perfect, it is Francisco who teachs Rearden that the material production is an intellectual process and a great virtue. It is Dagny who teachs him that sex is the expression of an individual's deepest believes and values. Rearden is able to recognize his own superlative values "Only" when trows off the idea that the body and its concerns are low. Ciro
  7. Moral perfection is when at the end of the day your emotions are not in conflict with what you believe. And thus, because people think differently and have different emotions, there will never be a universal moral perfection.
  8. I personally agree to be nice to people, but not to all people. Those who are invadent and hurl insults around to whomever they think would be a good candidate to their cause, should just be left to rott. CD

    Welcome

Ciao, Gonzalo I used to like Leopardi when I was your age. The reason I liked him, as much as I can remember, is only because I felt sorry for him, but I never liked his sense of life. Leopardi is the father of nihilism. No one has ever figure out if he really loved Silvia or not. I still have some papers about comments I had written in 1974 about "Il Passero Solitario." you write:Gabriele D´Annunzio (not so good...), I agree, Gonzalo. He was a pig! lol Welcome to OL. I am sorry that Spain is out of the world cup. Ciro D'Agostino

  14. One thing which is important to understand about Dominique is that despite the error of her pessimistic philosophy, she is independent in the use of her mind. One example is her evaluations regarding architecture, that is one reason why she detested her own father, because she understand that her father's career is phony and not worthy of admiration. She is able to understand and realizes at the end, after observing the life of Roark, Wynand, Keating, and Toohey that her believe that the good will inevitably fail and the evil triumph is wrong, and that Roark's benevolent assessment of life is true. 17. I think I need to explain about having a bigger one... Growing up as child in Italy, among friends, we had a saying that goes like this: If you do not pee in company of a friend, you must be ether a trader, or a spy. Thus, considering Michael a friend, and a person who lived in Brazil for so many years, I think he understood what I meant. This is the story of the bigger one: When I was 20, my friends and I, decided one day to go to Sperlonga, a famous beach, south of Rome. This was during the summer time. Therefore, after couple of hours of traveling, we arrived in Sperlonga. Sperlonga is a small village situated on top of a mountain, to access to the beach below, you need to descend about two millions steps. We packed our stuff and started to descend down to the beach. When we arrived down, I could not believe my eyes, there were naked beautiful girls everywhere, my friend and I, were shocked, we did not know that Sperlonga beach, was a nudist beach. After we regained consciousness, we decided to go by the water and cool our self off a little. We where the only ones out of all the people on the beach wearing a bathing suit:<<It looks strange, I told my friends, to wear our bathing suit on a nudist beach… people think that we are some kind of minoratis or something:>> In couple of minutes, we were all naked, playing, laughing, and making funny comments about our personal equipment. We had noticed that the majority of naked men where not joking at all about their personal equipment, daymnn, I think the sons of bitches where there just to showing off their well-kept shining cannons. One friend among us, who was the best equipped to compete with those men, lead the way so we could all enjoy the panorama of the beautiful girls. It was the only time that I was not jealous of having a friend with a bigger… than mine. I hope this explains where my idea of the bigger one came from, and my email to Michael.
  18. Ultimately, all that I ask is that you consider the evidence I've presented, investigate the facts for yourself, and then act accordingly. For God sake, Michael, I thought you were a friend. You know that I never wrote any of those posts. Now I understand why you told me to repost those e-mails you sent me with misspelled words and grammar errors so they would look more like mine. I will never forgive you for this! You are a devil!
  19. Jenna:emotions cannot be dictated to the extent that Rand seemed to express; and everyone does, at least, a rudimentary action called "psychologizing" in the form of hypothesizing about the mental states of another person in an interaction. If we cannot psychologize, then we cannot philosophize. As part of human nature, we do both, and many other things I Agree 100%, Jenna
  20. Actually, thanks to Dr. Branden's book, MYWAR helped me appreciate AR more as an actual human being--- MYWAR is not a biography of AR, it was not intented as such.
  21. Jenna:about his position and what he did. There was regret, and learning, and growing. One thing I realized was that people change. I don't understand how one cannot realize that, yes, everyone makes mistakes--- some that really hurt, and I've done my share--, but also that it's possible to learn from these mistakes, deal, grow, not make the same mistakes, and move on Jenna, Some people understand that, some others can't, because if they admit that NB was like you and I, they have to admit that AR was a normal person as well. Thus, NB cannot be other than an evil monster able to deceive AR. CD
  22. Angie, you might find this radio interview of Paul Ekman pioneering psychologist an expert on facial expressions, very interesting. CD http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...GLR:en%26sa%3DN
  23. The eyes are the most powerful means by witch we communicate non verbally with people. There is so much to say also about the face, the second most powerful way we use to communicate...and others rely on it for indications--to show how rewarding we are as individuals, to express our emotional state of the moment, to indicate our interest in others and things and so on. A smile, a downcast look, a head cocked on one side etc..., we can say quite a lot with our face. This is how Barbara describes her first sight of Ayn Rand: When the door of her home opened that spring evening of 1950, I found myself facing the most astonishing human being I have ever encountered. It was the eyes...they seemed the eyes of a human being who was composed of the power of sight. Michael, L W, and Robert thanks for your thoughts
  24. Michael, that was funny!!! Rereading my post, I thought that I could be misinterpreted as a social metaphysician because concerned so much about people. It all comes down to, at the end, to share it with people, no? CD Ps. what do you think, Michael?
