Hi, I'm a Communist!

This recruiting video for the Communist Party is unbelievable. And listen to the music!

Dayaamm!

I think it's going to backfire big time.

I got this at The Blaze here: Meet Your Friendly Neighborhood Communists

You can read a bunch of other stuff about this video over there.

Michael:

Mine eyes have seen the glory ...hmm- The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

That was the theme song of the John Birch Society and of course of the Union during the civil war!

As the gentleman who played the famous newspaperman in Inherit the Wind said..."We're raising an interesting crop of agnostics this year!" when he found Darrow reading the Bible in his hotel room.

A church going Communist ...interesting for an atheistic philosophy.

If this is the best they have, it will fail.

Hi. My name is Joe Stalin. I like to incite strikes, spread propaganda, and raise money through bank robberies, ransom kidnappings, and extortion. One day I hope to starve and execute millions of people.

And I am a communist.

I don't think that the CP-USA is going to gain many converts with this video. However, for an example of communism's continuing appeal to European and American "intellectuals," drop over to Amazon.com and read the glowing reviews of the books by one of the current darlings of the Marxist Left, the Slovenian academic and vociferous advocate and apologist for all things "Red" (and not just Communist red, but literally, blood red as in endorsing revolutionary terrorism, whether by terrorist gangs, or state-sponsored as by the Soviet Union), Slavoj Zizek.

I came across an interesting title while browsing in Barnes & Noble. It was Zizek's book, In Defense of Lost Causes. Oh, I thought, it must be about us! Hardly. Zizek means people like Stalin (who "saved humanity,") Mao, Pol Pot, Heidegger (a Nazi supporter, but his heart was in the right place), and, yes, Hitler (who "had the right idea, but didn't go far enough."). At first, I thought the book must be some sort of tongue-in-cheek parody. But no, he really means it: one of his chapter titles is, "Give the Dictatorship of the Proletariat A Chance." Zizek's problem with these guys is that they didn't go far enough (and that includes Stalin's "show trials" of supposed traitors in the 1930s). He concedes at one point that maybe some of the bloodshed might have been excessive, but that sort of thing happens when people try to remake society.

Now, you might think that there would be a torrent of condemnation of this man and his many books (he is quite prolific and popular). Well, check-out the blurbs from admiring reviewers of his work that Amazon has included, and note where many of these recommendations are coming from. Don't stop there, read the accompanying reviews posted by Amazon readers, along with subsequent comments on the reviews. Not only are they almost uniformly adulatory, they are written in the obfuscatory style that only an academic would love.

I found this to be something of an eye-opener for me. I had thought that at least communist-style brutality had been discredited by most modern academics. Apparently not, if the responses to this defender of totalitarianism are any indication. Don't worry about the clowns consorting with the CP-USA. Worry about what kind of minds that still eat up the glorification of terror and brutality - as long as it appeals to academics.

Michael,

Where's the pitch? As Adam, pointed out, if this is the best they have...than it won't fail; it already has. :)

The farm worker dude looks a lot like Jack Black (who is not a Communist).

I like the "I'm a historian, and a retail clerk." -- "I'm going to go ahead and throw in one of these pamphlets along with your purchase, at no charge!"

"I like to make YouTube videos, listen to Slayer albums, and do incredibly brutal things to my hair."

Love how all these Communists partake of all the fruits capitalism has to offer.

This should be the soundtrack. I remember that this was a good movie, but based just on this clip, seen after a long time, it makes me queasy.

Actually, here’s what they ought to do:

Crap, it won't embed, oh well.

I watched that show this morning, after my dog rousted me out of bed at the ungodly hour of 6:30, after fewer than three hours of sleep.

Lawrence O'Donnell was one of the "reporters" on the MSNBC election coverage -- along with Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews, Dylan Ratigan, and Rachel Maddow. What a disgraceful circus that was; MSNBC has given up even the pretense of objectivity.

The coverage on Fox News was far better in every respect. The reporters and commentators were clearly distinguished, and the latter included liberals as well as conservatives. The graphics were superior as well.

O'Donnell has his own show on MSNBC. I could be wrong, but I doubt if O'Donnell has ever publicly identified himself as a socialist before, at least not on television. In any case, I wouldn't be surprised if his recent remarks cause some problems with MSNBC.

More music anyone?

How about something lighter than The Battle Hymn of the Republic?

Here's an inspiring rendition of worker bliss by Soviet singer, Eduard Khil, otherwise know to our YouTube comrades as Trololo.

It used to be about cowboy bliss, but the Soviets censured corrected the oversight. Now that our dear Communist comrades are here in the USA, maybe it's time for a return of the cowboy, whatcha' think?

(wink, wink...)

And-ah-one, and-ah-two, and-ah-...

This guy looks like Jerry Mahoney, the ventriloquist dummy made famous by Paul Winchell. (I had one as a kid.) The major difference is that Mahoney's mouth has a greater range of movements.

Say what you will about commie music, the melody of the Soviet National Anthem has the U.S. National Anthem beat by a mile. We got stuck with the music from an English drinking song, with militaristic lyrics added by Francis Scott Key.

Here is the Soviet Anthem sung in English by Paul Robeson, recorded in 1943.

Thx, George; now I can despise Paul Robeson without equivocation.

--Brant

There is a hilarious -- and very un-PC -- scene in the Canadian miniseries "Joshua Then and Now" (1985) where Joshua (a writer played by James Woods) shows up at a London fund raiser for Robeson with a watermelon.

I haven't seen this excellent movie for many years; the last time I checked it had not been released on DVD.

I couldn't find the clip mentioned above. But here is one where Joshua's father (Alan Arkin) gives his son (the young Joshua, played by Eric Kimmel) some hilarious advice about sex and religion. These scenes will give you a good idea of the highly irreverent nature of this superb film. If you can locate this movie, which even Netflix doesn't carry, be sure to watch it.

I had one of those, too. Loved it (used to watch the show, growing up in NJ). I had to euthanize him after something went wrong with the whole head-jaw mechanism--it was so sad to look at him with his mandible all displaced and such. It was a sad day.

The mouth on my Jerry Mahoney dummy became very stiff after a while, and it squeaked. Pulling on that ring-on-a-string became like lifting a weight with one finger, so I finally put him in a closet. I don't know what happened to Jerry; he might have run away.

I never missed a chance to watch Paul Winchell, whether on his own show or some other. My favorite was Knucklehead Smiff. Here is a clip of Knucklehead from an old Perry Como Show:

Ventriloquist Edgar Bergen used to perform on radio, and so, I believe, did Winchell. That sounds weird now, but at the time it seemed perfectly normal.

I have been advised offline that the title to the Eduard Khil video is really offensive in Russian--a gay slur. There are lots of versions on YouTube, but I chose this one because it had more views than the others (over 7 million so far), thus less chance of being taken down over time. Also, as the title was in Russian, it tied into the Communist theme of the thread.

I decided to check on the Google translator. The phrase is: пассивный пидорас.

Google Translate returns: passive fag.

:)

Check on the link and see for yourself.

Oh well...

I don't endorse the title, but there it is--a YouTube sensation.

"Passive Fag."

I'm getting "He with face in pillow and powerful inner-muscles."

This is one of those rare ones where I will use what little self-control I possess. Reason? A thing is worth what it is, and this one is just too easy.

Here's another media dude coming out from hiding.

Apparently Dylan Radigan of MSNBC wants the violent overthrow of the USA government--he just doesn't know how to do it (that is, to be successful).

I wonder about how far this is pushing the the First Amendment. I always thought preaching armed revolt against the government bordered on treason.
