The Dollar must be saved as the symbol of freedom.

<<<"For roughly 150 years after the Mint Act of 1792, by which Congress established and defined the Nation’s currency, the purchasing power of the dollar fluctuated in a relatively narrow range. At the end of World War II, the price level was close to the peaks (and the purchasing power of the dollar close to the troughs) reached after the War of 1812, the Civil War, and World War I.

In contrast to those earlier episodes, full convertibility of the dollar into gold was not restored after 1945, and prices continued to increase. The loss of the dollar’s purchasing power accelerated greatly after 1971, when the last link between the dollar and gold was severed. By the end of 2006, the dollar had lost more than 93 percent of its original purchasing power.">>>

That quote is from the American Institute for Economic Research in a blurb in their bookstore for a book entitled Purchasing Power of the Dollar.

None of us wonder how come this has happened. We don't blame businessmen, capitalists or even ordinary bankers. I dare say that each and every one of us who inhabits this unique coming together of minds knows just what is responsible for the dollar being stripped of its value.

George Washington was treated at the end of his life by doctors who used the best of their knowledge at the time to cure him by draining blood from him day after day until his death. The dollar has also been drained of its value as a result of politicians following the incorrect advise of the most revered economic advisors the most notable being George Maynard Keynes.

At the end of Atlas Shrugged the hero makes the sign of the dollar and announces that it is time to return to the world. Ayn Rand suggested that the origin of the sign of the dollar, $, comes from the initials of the United States with the U superimposed onto the S.

We live in an age when the symbol of the freest country in all of man's history has been castigated and desecrated by those who fail to appreciate or value individual freedom. Every nation in history has lorded it over the common man and the ordinary woman has been treated as if she were mere chattel. Even the Founders spoke of each man being created equally yet failed to recognize the equal rights of women or men of color when they wrote the document which for the first time created a country in which the government would be limited in its power.

Most Americans still hold out hope that Obama knows what he is doing. They are almost all products of the public school system which did not provide them with an understanding of the history of this country, the thinking of our Founders, the principles underlying our freedom, the philosophy which would have given them the perspective and understanding to be able to identify the premises at the root of the policies of those who contended for the presidency. They are mostly ignorant of the incompetence of the economic advisors of our president and of the existence of a rational school of economic thought. They are counting on Obama to save the day for them and believe him when he says that the government is not responsible for our current plight.

A growing counter current to main stream thought exists and continues to spread its ideas throughout our institutions of learning and its torch is passed from mind to mind either in person or over the internet and in books and videos. Given that so much is at stake for every person who acquires the perspective which is imparted by Objectivism and by the works of the Austrian school of economics there is no doubt in my mind that in time those of us who are fortunate enough to have come across these ideas will see them become dominant in our society.
