Quotes from Alan Greenspan: The Age of Turbulence

Well, my copy of Age of Turbulence FINALLY ARRIVED TODAY. (It's a long way to Shanghai...)

I note he cites, in the bibliography, Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead and Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal.''Some rand-relevant material:

page 40 - 41: "She was unrelentingly analytical, ready to dissect any idea to its fundamentals, and had no interest in small talk. Yet despite this apparent ferocity, I noticed an openness in the way she approached conversation. She seemed ready to consider any idea from any person, and engage it strictly on the merits."

He then tells the story about his logical positivism, and his total skepticism.

Rand: "Don't you exist?"

Greenspan: "I ... can't be sure," I admitted.

Rand: "Would you be willing to say you don't exist?"

Greenspan: "I might..."

Rand: "And by the way, who is making that statement?"

He then mentions, a little later on, that he knew that his nickname was "the Undertaker."

From the same source:

Page 52 -- "It did not go without notice that Ayn Rand stood beside me as I took the oath of office in the president of President Ford in the Oval Office. Ayn Rand and I remained close until she died in 1982, and I'm grateful for the influence she had on my life."
