It has several fine uses. Robert suggests one: as a cure during airplane travel when the person next to you won't shut up. Just open your laptop and click on the device. The author suggested it for use during subway security checks. I see where it could help with guests who just won't leave. (The more larcenous minded might want to use it to avoid paying a restaurant bill and make a quick get-away...)I gave it a name because it didn't really have one.
