Alex Cranberg, entrepreneur and education activist: I had just read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged and was amazed at how well Rand had, in effect, predicted the Soviet Union's collapse through her story of how America might decline if it followed the Soviet example. Bill replied animatedly that his reading of that same volume was one of the most influential reads of his youth, and was a key reason for his developing a conservative philosophy.
