During an Ayn Rand phase that ran from 1974-1979, more or less, I read some of [Friedman's] books and admired the ideas [...], living in New Zealand, then a quasi-socialist paradise of monstrous delusion. It was probably the tiresome prattle that Rand produced after ‘Atlas Shrugged’ – itself heavy on the tiresome prattle - that ended my flirtation with objectivism, and maturity that brought the realization that “free will” and “let the market decide” and assumptions of rationality were a manager’s mark on the fair value of human nature.
