Saddam will be hanged 'by end-January'

I think this is probably one of the best ways to provide a sense of stability to the Iraquis and show by a perceptual concrete that the US system works. As a negative good, it shows that nobody is immune to justice. (And that is a good thing.) On the positive side, though, it shows nothing. There is still an ideological war to wage.

I did not follow the trial to be able to judge it but from what I saw it seemed fair. Trials of this sort are always hard but one defendent was acquited and two received less than death. These fact suggest that this was not "lynch law".

Well, he requested a military style firing squad, so that's out. I hope they televise the hanging. I'd like to see him wet himself when they put the rope around his neck.

Seriously, the sooner he's gone the sooner things have a chance of settling down. If he'd been shot "trying to get away" when they first found him I think things would have progressed much farther by now. Just my opinion.
