Roger Ailes is out at Fox When?

Did Ailes abuse his power to get sexual favors? I believe so.

How did you get there?

That Ailes abused his power this way seemed evident to me in his forced resignation following an internal investigation. It seemed evident to me in the Carlson win of an apology and millions. That Ailes lost his job and all of his power at FoxNews seems to be the harsh 'sentence' or  penalty for his behaviour. The mighty, fallen.

When I first started paying attention to FoxNews, the most remarkable personalities were the women. For some reason I associated FoxNews with bare arms, short skirts and high heels. It seemed to be part of the tableau or mise en scène of the performance. Women somehow appeared decorative to a degree not found on rival networks.  Older women appeared not so commonly. False eyelashes and just a touch of cleavage and abundant hair seemed also part of the package.

Anyhow, the King is gone from the network. That is my take-home. For the future, I think his future depends on Donald Trump, in a way.  He is 76 or so.  What 'retirement' had he planned for, if any?  What is his plan for power -- in the sense of wielding an executive power over an organization? Does he want another 'real job' at his age?  Does he want power of any kind?

Now, if Trump wins, I think that it would be a strange Putin-like phenomena if the head of state and head of government had a direct role in the management direction of a news organization, let alone a new cable news network.  If that same head of government pressed for 'reform' of libel laws to make it more easy to sir for defamation and insult, well, this is a page from the Erdogan playbook.

If Trump wins, whither Roger Ailes?  If he is destined to birth another network, he won't be reporting to the President.  Except perhaps as a 'long-time' friend.

If Trump loses, whither Roger Ailes?  Whither FoxNews? Whither Trump?  Trump will be still holding his brand. Why not attempt to trade, leverage, build a media empire, and why not have friendship with Roger Ailes, and why not try to make some money?

It is interesting to consider just how much tangible 'power' these two men will have at hand if the election should be lost to Hillary Clinton.  How might they pull off a comeback?

William,

Common sense.

When everybody is doing something in the entertainment world (I've lived in that world, don't forget, so I've seen it up close), it stands to reason one among that everybody is doing it, too.

Read a Harold Robbins novel sometime, fer krissakes. I know Robbins is a bit old, but so is Ailes...

:)

btw - Here's a premise for you to check. I think the Social Justice PC culture is a false lens due to a series of factors (like media gatekeepers and paid protestors), but it is a temporary one. Intense right now, but temporary. The public will ultimately decide what it wants to view, especially now that the gatekeepers are being blown to hell by the Internet. Ask yourself if the public--without gatekeepers--gives a damn about the sexual shenanigans of the famous and powerful when they have something good to gawk at...

Fox News pulled Saturday's episode of conservative commentator Jeanine Pirro's program after publicly admonishing her for on-air comments she made last week about a Muslim congresswoman's hijab . . . . "Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?" Pirro said in the scripted opening of her March 9 program that dealt with Omar, a popular target of conservative pundits since she entered Congress.

Fox News is acting stupid. I occasionally watch Judge Pirro because of her “spot on but outrageously not PC” comments.

This is likely from the Los Angeles Times, for those who'd like to read the rest of the story quoted by Peter Taylor:

Fox News pulls Jeanine Pirro’s program after hijab remarks

Quote

[...]

A representative for Fox News did not comment on Pirro’s status or the reason for the programming change. But the switch appeared to be related to Pirro’s March 9 comment about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who wears a hijab, a traditional head covering worn by Muslim women.

“Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?” Pirro said in the scripted opening of her March 9 program that dealt with Omar, a popular target of conservative pundits since she entered Congress.

Omar, an immigrant from Somalia, stirred public outrage over tweets she made regarding U.S. support of Israel that were interpreted as anti-Semitic.

Fox News, which typically stands by its hosts when they make controversial statements, issued a public rebuke of Pirro over the comments about Omar.

“We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar,” Fox News said in a statement. “They do not reflect those of the network, and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”

At least four advertisers — personal finance company NerdWallet, online marketplace Letgo and drugmakers Allergan and NovoNordisk — have said they have suspended their sponsorship of Pirro’s program because of her remarks about Omar.

Fox News is already dealing with advertiser avoidance in two of its nightly prime-time programs, “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and “The Ingraham Angle.”

Carlson was targeted by liberal media watchdog groups late last year after he said immigrants made the U.S. “poorer and dirtier and more divided.” He has recently come under fire for comments that many have condemned as misogynistic, racist and homophobic that he made on a comedic radio program.

“Ingraham Angle” host Laura Ingraham lost many of her sponsors last year after joking on Twitter about Parkland, Fla., high school shooting survivor David Hogg being rejected by several colleges.

Pirro did not apologize for her remarks, which she said were not intended to question Omar’s patriotism.

“I’ve seen a lot of comments about my opening statement from Saturday night’s show and I did not call Rep. Omar un-American,” Pirro said in a statement. “My intention was to ask a question and start a debate, but of course because one is Muslim does not mean you don’t support the Constitution. I invite Rep. Omar to come on my show anytime to discuss all of the important issues facing America today.” [...]

You're not supposed to wear a hat in Congress.

It takes guts to say that these days.

Is it like being in a church? Say it is. So who is the minister, what is his denomination, and what is his sermon about?

"During the session of the House, a Member, Delegate, or Resident Commissioner may not wear nonreligious headdress or a hat or remain by the Clerk’s desk during the call of the roll or the counting of ballots. A person on the floor of the House may not smoke or use a mobile electronic device that impairs decorum. "

Hmm, but do you think a Member, Delegate or Resident Commissioner may wear religious headdress nonreligiously ?

Speaker Pelosi should tweak some freshman and come to school one day in a hijab

I predict Nancy Pelosi will begin to adore President Trump in 2020 and she will start wearing a cowgirl hat. It will be like a Goldwater revival in America.
