Selene
I thought this Vimeo was a positive medium for explaining this complex issue to us less physics "educated" folks...<iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/41038445?portrait=0&color=c8b3df" width="400" height="525" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/41038445">The Higgs Boson Explained</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/phdcomics">PHD Comics</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
dennislmay
I'm no fan of the theory behind the existence of a Higgs Boson particle. I am also generally opposed to government funded scienceso I am doubly unhappy with my tax dollars being burned up in this make-work project. Likely there will be no independent verification until 20-30 years or more.If they find it I will look into what they are claiming and see if I agree they have actually discovered anything. The theory behindit is extraordinarily weak so I would expect something independent of a statistical discovery like the video descibes before gettingtoo excited.Dennis

dennislmay
Fine. Discover something better and publish. That is the plan - though like Glenn Beck in the media I may bypassthe entrenched gatekeepers of the day and go straight to the people -younger people interested in physics that is.I consider my present generation of physicists to be a lost generation.I have no confidence in the integrity of the present peer review processin theoretical physics or cosmology [or climate research].Once something impacts philosophy/world views [theoretical physics andcosmology] or involves political intrigue [climate research] the presentpeer review process has shown itself to be easily corruptible. You can beat your head against corruption - or bypass it.Like financial capital - intellectual capital can move to where it is appreciated.Dennis

dennislmay
I will not hold my breath until I see some results from you.I have seen virtually no comment on 2 component gravity, new explanationof the CMBR, or the terminal velocity photon. I am trickling it out there andstill have 2 free copies left of the last printed larger version of the work. The discussions leading to the work are on Physics_Frontier @ yahoogroups. The work is all interconnected to the non-linear QM work - related tothe work of Gregory S. Duane. I am still working on many things but a littlefeedback would be helpful versus implying nothing has been presented yet.Much of my work is computer modeling but the explanation of what has beendone in that modeling is available.Dennis

Only one way to ground a scientific theory. Experimental corroboration. Without experimental backup you have claims and nothing else.Let us know when your bigger better theories are backed up by replicated experiment.Ba'al Chatzaf
