Brant Gaede
The Phillipines did delay the assault on Iwo Jima by six months allowing the Japanese to heavily fortify it.--BrantMost of the slaughter on Okinowa was in the taking of Shuri Castle. Those Japanese devils did not oppose the landing the U.S. troops. They wanted the troops to walk into one of the most heavily fortified areas in the world where they had every square inch of ground zeroed in for their artillary. Okinowa could not have been avoided if the planned invasion of Kyoto was to happen.Ba'al ChatzafI am only talking about military strategy in taking the island. Very bloody, regardless, but that used used up the most US troops. The good thing is it probably cemented Truman's decision to use the atom bomb.--Brantwhat's this Kyoto business--don't you mean the island of Honshu?
