syrakusos
When Roseanne Barr spoke at the Occupy Wall Street rallies on September 19, she called for a new "people-ism" that combines capitalism with socialism, which, actually, is the definition of fascism. Barr denounced capitalism based on "that goddam Ayn Rand book." was posted to RoR by Ed Thompson and you can find it in a couple of places on YouTube, etc. Barr's comment is about a minute in. But which book did Barr mean? Atlas Shrugged is the easy answer, of course, but it is not the only choice. On my own blog, I offered Capitalism: the Unknown Ideal, The Romantic Manifesto, Introduction to the Objectivist Epistemology, and Philosophy: Who Needs It. On RoR, Joe Maurone suggested Virtue of Selfishness. Just about any book by Ayn Rand could anger the Anti-Capitalists. What is your favorite for this task? George H. Smith
According Barr, we should combine socialism with capitalism, and the result should be called "peopleism."http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hZrXdJ-iboGhs

What is your favorite for this task?Well, if it's ~Roseanne Barr~ who's pissed off, the Rand book has gotta be The Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution. I don't know anyone on the national scene who is much more disgustingly primitive than Barr.As for what her "People-ism" equates to, though, I don't think Barr is talking about Fascism. That is more or less what we have now -- with a thick stew of corporate regulative burdens, privileges, and bailouts keeping corporations afloat so they can continue to support the welfare state. When Barr talks about "combining" Socialism and Capitalism, she just means: further shackling and taxing corporations, while taking away their remaining freedom to operate, and funneling more and more of their earnings to social welfare and "green" programs. Sounds like Socialism, with an extremely nominal tinge of private ownership--i.e., essentially Socialism. Which makes sense: "People-ism" = Socialism linguistically, too.REB
