Some dumb leftist today said to Kayleigh McEnany during her press briefing question period that he has never heard of the government getting a percentage of private transactions. He really said that. He asked her to explain how that would work because he has never heard of such a thing and it sounds fundamentally wrong to him. How did Trump get them to open that conversation? Tik-Tok is a spy and data theft operation of the PLA (People's Liberation Army) of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party). It will soon be ended as a data theft and enemy spy operation. So anyway, the dumb leftist today at the briefing can't stand that the CCP's operation is being shut down and openly questions "the government receiving a percentage of private transactions."

I may have a warrior's mind, but I also have a nurterer's heart. The former was useful in my fifteen successful years as a slumlord and the latter as a successful at-home parent, raising two daughters after their mother spent 12 family leave weeks at home then returned to work. There are myriad reasons economists are interested in capital, its introduction into economies and its withdrawal in reaction to changing conditions, for example. The definition is non-arbitrary. Deployed or not at making goods, services and capital goods is objectively defined. There happens to always be hope of success. No assumption of success is required for the definition. I don't see how a distortion of the market arises from this objective definition.

The things you have are your wealth. Some of your wealth may be capital, say an active mine you own. Any item of your wealth may become capital if it enters an economy making goods/services/more capital items.

I disagree about only after it has created some profit. A thing is capital if it is deployed in an economy at making goods/services or more capital such as machines. I have never heard of asking whether the total enterprise is a success or not, whether profits are made or not as a criteria for whether something is capital -- whose idea is that? You separate the two by comparing the dollar cost of the relevant labor and capital.

Feds have a positive right to be present with force to protect fed property. There is always the right to be present and act to protect, permission is not relevant. Whatever it is that Napolitano presents as hindrance to the Department of Homeland Security protecting federal court houses from torching by rioters is purely his highly wishful and imaginative concoction.

I don't see a problem with there being no physical quality that makes something capital rather than ordinary property/wealth. Why can't the way it is being used be enough difference to make the difference? The chair is physically the same, but its use changes. I don't see the problem with that. Its use changed from private enjoyment, someone's wealth, to the production of services in an economy. Even if we restrict to physical qualities, definite machines, even ones usually committed to making and keeping more machines, such as say a metal lathe or mill -- these can be and many are in fact in garages and basements. They solve hobby problems for their owners but they are not deployed in any economy. That latter distinction seems to me objective and relevant to economics.

That shit is terrifying. I saw a similar animation, in stills obviously, in the Denver Post twenty five years ago for the failure of Cherry Creek Dam. The Army Corps Of Engineers completed the dam in 1950. It is only a large pile of dirt. The Corps swear it can come down by overfilling, spilling, and undermining itself. They want to pile it up taller and cap it all with concrete, give said spilling a course over concrete so that the spilling wouldn’t undermine it. (Denver would experience light flooding from the spilling, but it would be saved. They say raising it a little first will make even the light flooding from spillover almost 100% unlikely.) Nothing has been done. The failure analysis is absolutely terrifying. A wall of water thirty feet high will crash into Denver at about 30 mph.
