I do confess, I made a silly presumption that one uses math for understanding and controlling reality, whereas the true geniuses use math qua math for the sake of math to control math, the whole math and nothing but the math.

There is nothing silly about that. Applied math is used to understand and control reality, e.g. trajectories of artillery shells, space vehicles, self-driving cars, often making medical images, engineering, and likely more that I don't know about. Your description better fits pure math.

Wanna bet that the lawsuits are going to involve Dominion Voting Systems?

"In 2019, the state of Georgia selected Dominion Voting Systems to provide its new statewide voting system for 2020 and beyond" (Wikipedia).

Can you identify the bug or human error that flipped Georgia from Trump leading to Biden leading?

Gwinnett County runs into another technical issue as Georgia vote count inches to completion

Looks like you have to subscribe - which I'm not going to do - to read the article.

I keep a copy of Microsoft Edge on my desktop so I can occasionally read an article from the New York Times, Bloomberg, and other publications that allow a low number of N free articles per month w/o subscribing. If I reach N, I clear the browser history to reset the "articles read" to zero.

The Washington Compost doesn't allow any free articles.

  4. Yesterday I emailed a very good friend this URL.

    His reply, lightly edited, follows.

"Really depressing. Just watched a Tucker Carlson episode that covered the media trying to suppress the Hunter Biden scandal.

Many years ago Ayn Rand wrote an essay "The Argument from Intimidation," which is the modus operandi for advocates of this nuttiness.

I've heard America has experienced 4 religious revivals, which could manifest as an obsession with sin. We might be in a "secular religious revival" obsessed with the one big sin of racism, and imposed on the rest of the country by intellectual elites.

How did intellectuals get so powerful? Guess they got their true believers in the political, academic, and business elite."

If the email is here printed in its entirety it is assertion based and by implication is meant to direct action by individuals from a position of authority re communication from a 'healthcare provider'.

I disagree. It's some of both.

My workplace forwarded to us this email from Becker's Health Care. A few things jumped out at me: - the insistence that masks work, despite acknowledging that that really don't,  [ ]

    Thoughts, comments?

My doctor says you are wrong and I agree.  I trust him and my own judgment far more than you, who asserts but provides no evidence.
