I'd like to open a field of discussion for the QAnon phenomena.  Here is where I will post in already existing material presented at OL by members.  I'll take direction from comments and from poll answers.

  • What is Q / QAnon?
  • Why should anyone on OL pay attention?
  • Is skepticism justified?
  • What are the main questions readers have in mind to guide discussion?

No special rules or guidelines for this thread; the OL guidelines are good enough and will apply here. .  Please keep personal abuse to a minimum. Creative insults are kosher, but if they aren't on topic, why post them?

Our forum leader opened discussion on the phenomena back in January of this year.  My key-word search-term was "QAnon,"  not "Q," so the search results will not necessarily return all incidence of discussion touching on the phenomena.

How long do you really think the world will tolerate your satanic and masonic bullshit and evil?

Speak of the devil ...

A good article at Vox:  Satanic Panic’s long history — and why it never really ended — explained

Quote

[...]

The Q conspiracy quickly became known as QAnon — the name for both the theory itself and Q’s followers. As QAnon spread, it became a textbook example of Satanic Panic in action; its followers weaponized parents’ fears of harm coming to their children to spread the message across social media. The group used hashtags like the superficially unobjectionable #SaveTheChildren, and disguised itself against takedown attempts by Facebook by masquerading as a straightforward anti-trafficking community.

But just as the original spread of Satanic Panic masked prejudice, hostility to change, and fear of the other beneath all its performative concern for the welfare of children, Qanon, too, hid something much darker. In 2019, the FBI identified QAnon as a domestic terrorist threat, citing numerous acts of violence and militant recruitment efforts being done in the name of QAnon. This pattern came to a head in January 2021, when hundreds of QAnon supporters joined the insurrection at the US Capitol.

There are some clear differences between QAnon and the original era of Satanic Panic: QAnon is a political movement with real political power. And while Satanic Panic was fueled by religious zeal, QAnon is almost a religion unto itself. Still, the tools used to spread both ideas — alarmism, fearmongering, hysteria, and reports of wildly gothic scenes of blood-drinking, children harvested for body parts, and witches — are virtually identical.

Where does all of this leave us?

Yikes.

The fiends at Right Wing Watch could not let this other Frank Speech dot com information pass without remark ...

Quote

[...] “People asked me, ‘You’re going to let everything go? Porn? Swearing? Everything?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely not,'” Lindell said. “We have a thing we found in the Constitution and our founding fathers that defines what free speech is. And Eric, get this, this Judeo-Christian platform we’re going to have here, they go by biblical principles—you know, you get to the Supreme Court, you have the 10 Commandments there—so, in other words, you’re not going to have porn up there, you’re not going to have these sites that contain material that go against our Constitution, go against what our founding fathers put in there.”

“You’re not going to be able to swear,” Lindell added. “There will be four words for sure you can’t say: You can’t say the C-word, the N-word, the F-word, and you can’t use God’s name in vain. What a concept. Right?”

“Wow,” Metaxas responded. “That’s really puritanical. I like it.”

Lindell then insisted that users will also not be allowed to violate the Ninth Amendment by bearing false witness against others on his platform.

“What I’m not going to do is suppress true free speech,” he said. “When someone goes out there and says, ‘I don’t like what’s going down at the border,’ or ‘I don’t like that our country was attacked and nobody’s trying to know you did anything about it or is doing anything about it,’ that’s free speech. Another thing you can’t do [is] what we define in there is totally defame someone. What’s the Ninth Commandment? I can’t even think now, but in the Ninth Commandment, you’re bearing false witness, I believe it is. So, if you’re putting a complete lie against Eric; if I say, ‘Eric Metaxas did something terrible’ and it’s an out and out lie, that’s not free speech. That is not free speech.”

[...] William needs to study propaganda more and learn the difference between attraction messages, bonding messages, persuasion messages (including spin), and calls to action. He always leads, ends and does the middle with what he imagines the persuasion part (and probably congratulates himself on his own cleverness as he gets in one more piece of snark). But, so far, I've only seen the kind of mockery whites used to do against blacks in the Old South, or Nazis did against Jews, and on and on.

But I don't believe William is a bigot, albeit his humor tends to play only in that key. Here's proof he is not.

When nobody shows up, he wonders why nobody cares, gets frustrated, then tries to mock the general public, too. True bigots stay on target.

Intriguing perceptions or informed guesses about the insides of William's mind. As with all psychic investigations, you get what you pay for.

Bigotry as a concept in my mind is identified by fixity of belief and hostility to correction, and a couple of other indicia. The difference between "She was bigoted in her views" and "She was not bigoted in her views" kind of captures the need for distinctions that matter.

Anyhow, the world of Q is having a week. There is an ongoing factional struggle among promoters, on several axes. If you follow my Q-Watchers league or are a Telegram user following Q-focused accounts, you will have noted UFO/UAP issues and anti-semitism issues developing. Basically, factional leaders are signalling 'Don't Taint Us With [X]' ... 'Don't let GhostEzra-ish Jew hate dirty up our movement.'

But this is new.

Jordan Sather is struggling with infamy ...

The pricey three-day Qristian Paytriot whoop-up in Dallas brought forth a Michael Flynn kerfuffle yesterday, wouldn't you know ...

Answering a question from the audience about the coup in "Minamar," Flynn opened the door to a flurry of misapprehension.

A typical bit of bent coverage is from Huffington Post -- Trump’s Ex-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn Calls For Myanmar-Type Coup In U.S.

Quote

Avowed QAnon disciple and confessed felon retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn has called for a Myanmar-like military coup in America.

“It should happen,” Donald Trump’s former national security adviser said in an astonishing declaration at a QAnon conference Sunday.

Myanmar’s military violently seized control of the country from its civilian government in late January, detained democratically elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and top party members, and killed more than 700 protesters as of early this month. The military justified its action by claiming unproven “election fraud.”

Flynn presented his dark vision of a military coup and dictatorship in the U.S. in response to a question from the audience at the conference.

“I wanna know why what happened in Myanmar can’t happen here?” an unidentified member of the audience asked Flynn, though he pronounced the nation as “Minnimar.”

“No reason,” Flynn responded to wild screams of approval. “It should happen.”

Young Mike Rothschild serves up Flynn's rebuttal to the wilder interpretations.

What a thing to say. How is that bad word spelled? T R E A S O N. Until it is PROVED there was a stolen election and nothing is done about it he should not be saying something like that. I think Biden is over in Rehoboth today, temperature 71 and not all that warm. Remember the Secret Service, you donkey, ex general Flynn.

The above quotes/denials from Gen. Flynn are presented as "FWIW."
There IS video of him asking why "what happened in Myanmar can''t happen here", to applause.
It's a short clip, so whether there's more context or not, qualification, etc, I don't know.

Luckily for you, water-pistol wounds heal quickly in warm weather.

My own unsourced clanger is "let me say this about that." I seem to remember this as a tic of Richard Nixon's political speech. I assume I can just call up the presidential library reference desk and check my recollection.

Yes, well, tragically for a swath of fans, Montreal Canadien advance to the next NHL playoff round, knocking the Toronto Maple Leafs out. Montreal seemed destined to crap out after losing the first three games. Nice comeback, Habs!.

William,

I listened to some of this. Tim clutches his pearls sometimes. This is one of those times.

He doesn't like the Q thing. So he's using Flynn's words to bash the Q thing. If you want to have time fun, Start counting how many times he said the word "nonsense" or other disparaging term for the Kraken and/or Q narrative in that video. :) To Tim, it's not a gotcha about Flynn. It's a pretext to bash the narrative he dislikes.

But let's do a gotcha, meaning, let's do to Tim what he is doing to Gen. Flynn. Here are Tim's exact words in the beginning of the video.

Quote

A retired general, Michael Flynn, the former National Security Advisor to the President, said that there should be a Myanmar-style coup in the United States. No, he didn't specifically say it.

He didn't come out downstage and say, "We need to have a military coup like they did in Myanmar."

What happened was, a guy asked a question. He said, "I'm a simple marine and I want to know... why... what's the reason why what happened in minnamar can't happen here?"

He said minnamar, it's Myanmar.

And Michael Flynn said, "No reason. I mean, it should happen here."

And everyone clapped and cheered. Michael Flynn is now denying this and I do not accept it. Sorry.

Heh.

So Flynn said it, but didn't "specifically" say it.

Riiiiiiiiiighhhht...

:)

Here's Flynn's "denial" (once again). It's also given above. My text is copied from Gen. Flynn's account at Telegram.

Quote

Let me be VERY CLEAR – There is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort.

Any reporting of any other belief by me is a boldface fabrication based on twisted reporting at a lively panel at a conference of Patriotic Americans who love this country, just as I do.

I am no stranger to media manipulating my words and therefore let me repeat my response to a question asked at the conference: There is no reason it (a coup) should happen here (in America).

Here is the point people miss.

In Gen. Flynn's mind, in my mind, and in the minds of millions of people, a coup has already taken place. And, as Gen. Flynn said, there is no reason for any coup in America.

Notice that the marine did not ask about a coup in Myanmar. He asked about "what happened in Myanmar."

So what did happen over there? Well, in Myanmar, the military did not stage a coup so much as impede one from happening through election fraud.

Gotcha!!!

(For what a gotcha is worth, which is little. :) )

On another point, Scott Adams weighed in and mentioned that Gen. Flynn is probably the only person in America who could say a coup should happen in America without censure from him (Adams). The government literally targeted Gen. Flynn for destruction over his political views. And that gives him a right to respond in kind.

On a different point, Tim has been predicting civil war for a long time. He gets pearl-clutchy when he thinks someone will trigger it. This video isn't the only one where he does something like this.

But I want to mention something else that might not be apparent to many people. The audit in Arizona is scaring the bejeezus out of a lot of people. They know the fraud took place and once it is proven, it's anybody's guess what will happen.

On the Republican side, there is a faction that abhors the entire Kraken narrative.

For example, I just finished the audiobook of Breaking the News: Exposing the Establishment Media's Hidden Deals and Secret Corruption by Alex Marlow (the chief honcho at Breitbart right now). Alex believes the Kraken narrative is nonsense and there is nothing to the voting machines sending ballots overseas, etc. He bashed this idea without mercy in the book. (And... ahem... he also avoided an expensive lawsuit by Dominion. :) )

btw - Steve Bannon and many other heavyweights are not among them. Mike Lindell has become the gravitational point for the voting machine fraud narrative and Steve calls this the "air" game as opposed to the "ground" game, which is normal election fraud stuff.

People like Tim and Alex, even though they are basically on Trump's side, resist the idea that an organized attack on our voting system through the voting machines could happen, even as they condemn other forms of election fraud like dead people voting, mail-in ballots without folds, votes tallied more than once, etc.

I believe their resistance comes partially from trying to still play the game according to the rules. Tim, for example, said right there in the video that the courts did not look at the substance of the lawsuits--and only looked at standing--because they were impatient with the Kraken suits.

That, obviously, is horseshit. I can see an impatient judge here and there doing that. I can't see the entire judicial system doing it like they did. Corruption, blackmail, organized coup, etc., make a hell of a lot more sense--in terms of viability alone--then claiming the entire judicial system was impatient with the Kraken narrative in some of the suits, so ALL the courts refused to accept ALL of the suits on standing.

(Besides, Sidney Powell is usually laughed at before she wins. :) )

I wonder what these people will look like when everything comes out, including large parts of the Kraken and Q narratives, and becomes accepted by the public as credible--and by the courts for that matter.

Michael

EDIT: One question. I can't find a video of what Gen. Michael Flynn said after the quote that made the media go apeshit. Granted, I have spent far more time on this story than it deserves so I am no longer looking very hard. All of the videos I have found so far cut off right after he says, "It should happen here." Why do I keep getting this déjà vu all over again feeling, I wonder, I wonder? :)

Congrats to all the Hab fans but I mean was it ever in any doubt?

When was the last time that the Leafs did anything?

I was 5, and currently am 59.

Has a team ever even lost 4 game sevens in a row ???????

I've been a Flyers fan since I was very young and thank god I can actually remember our two Stanley Cup victories very fondly, but have felt the pain of all Leaf fans considering it's been a very dry run since 75.

William does have one redeeming propaganda value, though. He is prolific and untiring. So I imagine he will eventually learn and get better. Either that or die pumping out gobs of crap nobody reads. Oh... he might entertain being an unsung  martyr for the truth, but that's being a legend in his own mind. Once his mind dies, the legend will die with it. So far, the message values are just not there for later discovery. At least I've never heard of anyone digging up mockery qua mockery and calling it unknown and unsung genius.

Words to the wise, one might say.

Here's a tale to be told:
