The Objectivist Living equivalent of a 'subtweet' ...

But if William wants to lead his posts with this stuff, he's off archetype so he takes the response he gets. And, frankly, you were off archetype, too, when you worshipped him.

Since when is the trickster ever worshipped? Isn't the trickster supposed to take it at times, not just dish it out? And what better chance appears to nail his ass than when he gets worshipped? But I feel his and pain. And yours.

In case anyone is wondering what "this stuff" is about, it's the blog entry header above ...

I mean, come on. Doesn't the jester ever get a serious moment? Hath not a jester hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions; fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer as everyone else? If you prick him, does he not bleed? If you tickle him, does he not laugh? So should not a solid reason be for the tears of the clown?

(Oops, there I go again...)

Anyway, at least you didn't offer up a child sacrifice to William as part of the worship ritual.

  :)

And anyway, anyway, the person to worship on an O-Land forum is supposed to be Ayn Rand...

I would suggest Trump under the circumstances, but hey.

I add this here just because it's fun.

William,

Why do you keep citing Qanon to me? I've already said--several time--I think that persona was infiltrated by God knows how many actors on all sides, so it's unreliable. Not credible anymore.

Why would you insist? Qanaon is anything goes in the news...

Er...

Hmmmmm...

I think I get it.

Yeah...

Actually, you're right to throw Qanon at me.

Sometimes I quote CNN to you and CNN is much less reliable for news and predictions.

So tit for tat.

  :)

(btw - I haven't forgotten I'm dealing with a wild thing... wink wink... :) )

Smiley-face.

For a slightly broader context to Michael's sensitivities about Qanon:

That's fine.  Qanon says they are all going down.  All of them.  Including the horses they rode in on.  Do details really matter?

Sincere flattery always works.  Verbose or not.  Caroljane's commentary was in response to my blog entry about the President's Best Days, so I give her credit: "Your meditation shows again that you are that rare thing in the cyberworld, indeed in human natureworld itself, a genuinely free mind, a developed mature brain and conscience and dare I say it, soul."

True or not, it's a lovely testament from my friend ... I am sorry that the compliment triggered upset in good people.

No one was triggered or upset. You're just being teased a tad. You're a true artiste, and we cyberlove you, even when we're having fun disagreeing with you or razzing you.

William,

Triggered?

Good Lord!

I was going to let it rest, but self-pity is too much to take.

You're going to play the victim over that?

Jeez Louise...

OK, let's stop the banter and peel the scab off...

I wish Carol had gushed over something you did. Some achievement. Something honorable. Some feat that required skill. Something you brought into existence that was useful to others. Or even rescuing a goddam cat from a tree.

But she didn't. She gushed over you being (in her view) superior to the idiot boobs here on OL. You were a great contrast from the tone of her gush.

And now you want to parade her words around like a badge or beanie hat?

Gimme a break.

I'm not triggered. I'm bothered by the amateurishness.

Can't you guys do this stuff with a little more class and invention?

When you look down your nose at people, you're supposed to be subtle like turning you back and blowing on a dog whistle to play to your crowd. Not leer over top of people's heads and drool on them.

Whatever...

I'm almost sorry to have to tear the scab off because it was good for banter. But self-pity?. I just can't do it.

You know you want to get away with it... get away with it all... and nobody notice...

You wild thing, you...

Here's some advice on two types of compliments, advice to live by ... emphases added.

Look at difficulty and effort like a game you have to figure out, where you have to fail to learn, not as a possibility for rebuke, shame and punishment if you fail. [...]

And avoid this huge trap. When people compliment you on your ability, knowledge, good looks or whatever, ignore them. (Say thanks or whatever, but move on and don't let this into your soul. It's hard, I know. It goes to your head. But do it anyway. This is a passion-killer--sweet poison--because it labels you.)

However, if they compliment you on the effort you just made, on the strategy you just used, on how clever you were this time around, on how you dressed to kill this time, and so on, soak it up. This is what you need to hear to foster your "trying muscle."

In other words, accept compliments on concrete attempts, not on general identity adjectives.

William,

Wow. I like it.

You got it.

You understood.

In forum life, if someone says they loved your analysis, you showed them an aspect of an idea they hadn't seen before, you wrote a powerful article, etc., or for the creatives, you loved their work, etc., that's very good.

Wear it as a badge (albeit there is a lot to be said for modesty after the run gets old, Rand notwithstanding).

For as much as I value Carol (and you, for that matter), I would say thank you to gushes like the following and move on. They are almost like floating abstractions.

Two very good examples.

Banter aside, of course. With banter (done in the spirit of banter), anything goes because it's play, not real.

Bravo! Bravissimo! So very, very well said, dearest darling MSK, you adorable twinkle of stardust, you jewell, you gem, you clinquant divinity. You make my heart sing. You make everything groovy. I need fifty dollars to make you holler, I get paid to do the wild thing.

Oh, wait, oops, that's a different Wild Thing. Tone Loc, not the Troggs.

Sorry that I fucked up my gush.

The Troggs, I was sure it was the Zombies --thanks J.

Don't be apologetic - real gush takes time to achieve - I am sure you do the things you do really adequately.

Caroljane, your next appearance before the temporary magistrates of Compliment Court is on the docket. How will you plead?  It's been almost ten days since your remarks were found wanting by the Misses Manners, and you don't seem to appreciate the gravity of the situation.

Relaxing at home with my wife. I drink a few beers. Have a few laughs. Today I went to see my granddaughter at acting camp and they put on a show. The first part was mime and I am not fond of it. The director promised none of the kids would be trapped in a box, but it was still mime. They did a Broadway number which was much better. I stopped going to Williams blog because I thought I might be picking up a virus, so I will watch for one again.

That would be... coming across this fun thread I had forgotten, on New Years' Day, in front of a roaring beach and walking along the snowbanks.. ohwell, you get the drift.

Er MICHAEL, you know I am a collectivist and my original complo was expressive of appreciation for the collection of stunningly sharp, thoughtful, rigorously logical and/or down-on-the-floor funny productions he has produced here as posts/articles over the last seven years. Individually.
