Michael Stuart Kelly
Funny Campaign Ads - 2010I'm starting this thread to put up the funniest, or best in terms of wit, campaign ads. I intend to contribute more to it as I go along. If you have something that caught your fancy, please post it.I got the idea after seeing this one of Barbara Boxer. It is very well done.<object width="400" height="225"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=16072732&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=16072732&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="225"></embed></object>I wonder if "Could you say Intellectual Heir?... I worked so hard to get that title... yes, thank you," would have qualified to be included in the ad. Michael
Selene
I think anything with Barney Frank in it is funny. I guess that also makes me a homophobe!Oh well.Adam
9thdoctor
These aren't from 2010, but there was plenty of humor in them.
Selene
These aren't from 2010, but there was plenty of humor in them. Excellent ads and the results in 2000 were virtually the same as when Barr and the Bookie were the incredibly pitiful candidates in 2008. Year Candidate Popular Votes Percentage Electoral Votes 1972 John Hospers 3,674 <0.1% 1 1976 Roger MacBride 172,553 0.21% 0 1980 Ed Clark 921,128 1.1% 0 1984 David Bergland 228,111 0.3% 0 1988 Ron Paul 431,750 0.5% 0 1992 Andre Marrou 290,087 0.3% 0 1996 Harry Browne 485,759 0.5% 0 2000 Harry Browne 384,431 0.4% 0 2004 Michael Badnarik 397,265 0.32% 0 2008 Bob Barr 523,686 0.4% 0Ads do not deliver votes, field organizations with local messages linked to national issues does.Adam Edited October 24, 2010 by Selene
9thdoctor
Ads do not deliver votes, field organizations with local messages linked to national issues does. The only time I saw these ads was at a campaign stop Harry Browne made in Miami. There were 30, maybe 50 people there. They asked for donations so they could show the ads, I don’t think they got enough. I'd say the perennial problem of the Libertarians is how to get support when you have no favors to bestow, and are pledging to work against the favors so many institutions/individuals are relying on. One of the essential "problems" Goldwater allegedly had was that he told powerful interest groups the truth. For example, when he spoke in the farm belt, he zealously advocated ending farm subsidies for 1) growing crops folks did not want; and 2) not growing crops folks did want. When he spoke to senior organizations, he specifically argued for a radical change in social security because it was unsustainable.I think the first step is to get elected locally and change a local "tax" or agency and prove, clearly, that the local community can understand that 1) the government service was not needed; or 2) the government service was replaceable by private firms which employed folks profitably to meet the "need" that folks felt needed to be met. Then, INDUCTIVELY, it will probably work on the county level, and then on the state level and then on the national level. It is the trickle up power of individual citizens that will change this national nightmare. The Libertarian Party, from its inception, refused to listen to those of us who established it with grass roots, tea party like efforts, and voluntarily chose to make the Libertarian Party a national party. They wanted the Penthouse without laying any of the cornerstones to support it.Adam
