You have got to see this.

Claire Danes portrays the autistic Temple Grandin who is a leading authority on autism (Temple is autistic) and a world authority on animal husbandry. Her autism enabled her to understand how cattle feel and react to various things in their environoment. She designed a series of pens which help keep the cattle calm until they are slaughtered. Her words: Nature is cruel, we don't have to be.

A wonderful story.

Interesting that her autism would allow her to "primitivise" [new word I just made up] her responses and be able to utilize the information for a good action.

The meat probably tastes better also.

Nice quote.

Thanks.

Temple Grandin did a three hour interview on Book TV. It was on the In Depth. Paul Johnson, the British historian, will be on In Depth today. You can watch him before the Super Bowl.

The In Depth interview are archived at the Book TV web site.

According to Grandin the lower level of stress hormones in the animal, when it is slaughtered, leads to better tasting meat. Apparently the stress hormone "sour" the meat somewhat.
