Chris Grieb Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I hope we can look at videos of his early years and not focus on the horror story of his last years. There was a picture of Michael on Fox very early in his career. What a cute little kid. There was little bit of "Thriller" shown. What a performance. I hope he can find some rest.
kiaer.ts Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Yeah, I have disliked him since Thriller but was surprised to find I was saddened by his passing. Everyone deserves happiness, and he did bring it himself to a hell of a lot of people.

Michael Stuart Kelly Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Some idiot said he was selling Michael Jackson's nose on Craigslist in order to get people to go to an online casino (Golden Palace). I got the following image from a screenshot posted on Twitpic. But I don't know how long it will last, so I copied it and put it on my server. Here is the text so you don't have to enlarge the image:That's right. I got it. I work at the hospital and grabbed it while he was being worked on. Came off rather cleanly and surprisingly easy. Doesn't feel like skin so much as it does soft vinyl plastic. Interesting trades considered.contact me via email.Golden Palace.com, contact me ASAP.Get ready for an orgy of bad taste in picking over Michael Jackson's bones...Michael
Michael Stuart Kelly Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 On a much nicer and deeper note, the article below is one of the few "heavy" things I have read about Michael Jackson's life and death that rings true to me. I have seen many people like the article's author describes. The scale has been smaller, of course (Brazilian artists), but the hunger and the error have been identical: the need to be loved and the error of thinking the attention of fans and suck-ups is love. And, of course, the drugs (whether prescription, illicit or alcohol) to help with the loneliness in the middle of all that attention...These poor souls never know whether the people around them are there because of their person, because they are truly loved, or whether all those people are trying to steal some of their spotlight, money and/or opportunities for themselves. The doubts grow as one close person after another is found out to be opportunistic. This is compounded by the temptation of famous artists to snap their fingers and watch people serve their every whim instantly. One who truly loves does not do this. But this kind of person rarely lasts in a famous artist's circle unless the artist really has his/her head together. ("Having your head together" means being spiritually anchored in some manner.) Such a person, one who truly loves the artist, is only one and the fans and suck-ups are legion.I want to pity Michael Jackson for this, but I don't. He even made his loneliness out to be a public issue for his fans. So on one level, he knew what he was doing. He chose. The tragic end of Michael JacksonBy RABBI SHMULEY BOTEACH From the article:In the two years that I had attempted, ultimately unsuccessfully, to help Michael repair his life, what most frightened me was not that he would be arrested again for child molestation, although he later was. Rather it was that he would die. As I told CNN on April 22, 2004, "My great fear, and why I felt I had to be distanced from Michael ... was that he would not live long. My fear was that Michael's life would be cut short. When you have no ingredients of a healthy life, when you are totally detached from that which is normal, and when you are a super-celebrity you, God forbid, end up like Janis Joplin like Elvis... Michael is headed in that direction."I just watched several Michael Jackson videos on YouTube. I might have some things to say about his art later (which is a mixed bag esthetically), but one thing really stood out to me that I never noticed before. He really wasn't a dancer. Not the way I understand dancing. He took walking (not dancing) and making gestures to a stylized level that was really cool. It was something all his own. A non-apologetic "in-your-face I-am-hot-shit" attitude. One of the really cool things about it is that people can do (and do) these gestures and walks in his manner in short bursts. In fact, people do them all the time during everyday conversations and interaction. But despite anything we may think or analyze or remember, one fact remains. Michael Jackson was a helluva great artist. I for one will miss him...Enough rambling for now...Michael
Pelagius160 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) I'm not a fan of Ed McMahon's music, but I've always thought his type of pop was harmless, unlike the raucous roaring racket of the rubbish that people listen to these days. There's no denying he was gifted and that he had a magnetism which made him stand out from his brothers from the start. He was both rewarded and persecuted for his talent and eccentric charisma. For many of his fans, the world will be much more drab and empty now that he's gone.Pelagius160 Edited June 27, 2009 by Pelagius160

Pelagius160 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) I always disliked "Man in the Mirror," which expresses a mystical sense of life. The video had an image of Mother Theresa and the song has a line about a "selfish kind of love." It only takes one bad premise to ruin a song, and there's two for you.I've heard it was an attack on Anthem. Can anyone confirm that? Edited June 27, 2009 by Pelagius160

Neil Parille Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 McCartney did "The Girl is Mine" with Jackson. He did "Ebony and Ivory" with Stevie Wonder. Two songs with a schmaltz content at the meeter busting level.-Neil Parille
Pelagius160 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 What was that song that Michael Jackson sang with Paul McCartney? "Ebony and Ivory" or something? Is your name Madeleine? No, it wasn't "Is your name Madeleine?"I think Neil's right that it was "The Girl is Mine."
Pelagius160 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) I think that if Ed McMahon had read PARC before he died, he would have thought that it was unimpeachable, professionally edited, and that Wikipedia should rate it as a reliable source. And think how more widely the message could have spread if he'd endorsed PARC.Pelagius160 Edited June 27, 2009 by Pelagius160

Nice link to the F.F. story about her and A.R. Cheap comment from you about the Brandens. How could they have known about this relationship before it was researched out +20 yrs later? Your "Pelagius160" is a conglomeration of "Pelagius" and "160" from the Wikipedia PARC/Valliant mess so exhaustively explicated on on SOLOP. So, who are you? "Madaleine" is the only match up from the relevant SOLOP thread who has your style of writing. Since you are of a mind to roast Barbara Branden I'm telling you it won't work here. If you're Holy Valliant you've too much time on your hands. Go take care of James.--Brant

Brant Gaede Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 I'm really sorry for the Valliants. What she did to him while trying to champion him ... I hope they still have each other. They probably do. It'd now be called a default relationship. Currently James has the hot potatoes of PARC in one hand and Wikipedia in the other. I'll probably never understand why he started that SOLOP thread six weeks ago. There seems to be some kind of over-arching hubris shared by trial lawyers who might commonly have no trouble being for the prosecution or the defense with a judgeship possible.--Brant
