I have left the academia for personal growth and enlightenment and am still progressing in a kind of search to enrich my life with knowledge.(of course at my personal pace of study) I came across Anthem in a speed reading class back in 1985 as well as We the Living. I just purchased Atlas Shrugged. I write scifi scenarios and have reached a limit in my thought processes. What is next, would be a development of the philosophy behind (to use an old term) new sciences. So I start here for guidance, inspiration and new theoretical structured forms and concepts.

1: my name is Bill Newbold aka William Victor Newbold

2: my artistry is a life time of being alive and at work everywhere I am.

3: my experience is not limited in any fashion but will need a polite stirring sometimes.

goals are:

1: to finish the book I have started on the net, at my artists label forum and center

2: continue to submit arts and works of musics to that center.

3: find another way, to something else.,, ;)

here is where I make a statement for response:

Hello. I am forty five and live in N.J.

Welcome, we could use a little color in this forum.

"...philosophy behind (to use an old term)..." < Out of curiosity, what is the new term?

As a speed read reader, how fast do you think you can do the 1,000 plus pages of the objectivist bible?

Finally, what are your experiences with flame wars?

Bill,

Let me offer you a very warm welcome to OL.

You will find a group of very intelligent but independent-minded folks here. Sometimes feisty. Sometimes playful. Sometimes technical. Always interesting.

As to you, do you bring us divine water?

:)

first off - flame wars are solved usually by just ignoring the flamer staying on topic so that then things will settle down. if not an admin gives a warning and proceeds to eliminate the problem (the persons login if need be)

Once, as a naive poster, I would get flamed everyday, by some new log in name that was invented just to ... flame me. And they succeeded in provoking me to flame back and thus my neat little login name and posting history was lost in the annals of the net wars.

two new sciences = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_New_Sciences = Galileo's finial work

I as a speed reader would read the bible; page by page; sentence by sentence; word by word; .,out of respect for the work., and as such never finish., but ask about the gist of it and put it on the libraries shelf in proper duodecimal order.,, such is the results of being a speed reader - for so long that most books are not interesting anymore and or language but yet today I hope to rekindle my interest in the language of philosophical thoughts ., would you? could you? summarize the object of or the meaning within what is that Objectivists Bible?

As for interesting I as well find my taste has just completely conformed to that Dali painting that was noted as number one for Ayn Rand and is now my favorite Dali painting too ., It was not being that one when I entered this site but the favorite was persistence of vision with that image of Christ as second.

Bill:

I can only state what the objectivist bible stated to me which is:

As a rational individual, I am perfectly capable of understanding objective reality, which is independent of my senses, using my own mind. As an individual, I decide what is in my own self interest and am completely moral in achieving my own happiness as long as I do not initiate physical force against another human being. The worst and most evil scam in intellectual history was to chain a productive individual with a collective guilt and reduce him to intellectual slavery which in turn leads to physical slavery.

That man, as a rational animal, shall use his mind to achieve his own selfish ends.

Seeing from the quick bio you provided interests I to like a good game of chess as well, but am more apt to play abstract strategy games at http://superdupergames.org that site is in beta and is slow but the games are move a day based and usually the server is up without loss of a move. I am in a tournament there with an interesting kind of para-dine of play structure. My "handle" is xoet there and I have several games I am always willing to start a game of.

One thing without revamping the prisoner's dilemma (yet) what is/are the virtues of winning or losing at games? or, does it become a move by move virtuous situation there of? I think the later, but what is the object of game play really?

The object of any game that I have played from Gettysburg to Go is to win.

Let's see "Winning isn't everything...it's the only thing!" V. L.

"Satisfaction does not come with achievement, but with effort. Full effort is full victory."

M. G.

"Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all time thing. You don't win once in a while, you don't do things right once in a while, you do them right all the time. Winning is habit. Unfortunately, so is losing." V. L.

"Self-praise is for losers. Be a winner. Stand for something. Always have class, and be humble." J. M.

"Money won is twice as sweet as money earned." P.N.

"What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease." S. T.

"The best victory is when the opponent surrenders of its own accord before there are any actual hostilities. It is best to win without fighting." S. T.

And my own which I am sure others have said it, The only way to win is to refuse to lose." < me

I hope to live up to that :)

I am still working on the correct signature for my postings here that would define the universe/multi-verse simultaneously without stepping on the toe's of the giants before us.

It is in the mix and being stirred right now.
