Go here for a rather interesting essay by William H. Stoddard

He points out several dissonances between Rand's ethical theory and what she portrays in -Atlas Shrugged-. I think you will find his presentation interesting and challenging.

Go ahead and read the first couple of pages. The author's analysis of the story of the death of the Wet Nurse and attempt to find conflicts between that story and Rand's articulated ethics makes it clear that one of two things must be the case:

1) The author has not bothered to read with any care what Rand actually said about ethics, other than short snippets. Key point: Always read considering the context.

2) The author is being intentionally misleading.

Absent further information, I incline to #1 as an explanation for this sloppy work on the Stoddard's part.
