Peter Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I am stunned that Objectivists do not support the best candidates for any political job. As an example, Reagan for President.
Michael Stuart Kelly Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Not all Objectivists. Some Objectivists range from true believers to cultists and they all are control freaks. Those are the ones coming for libertarians. Also, some people talk Objectivism, but they use it as a front to cover their real interests. Some of these come for libertarians, too. Infiltrators and so on. I'm thinking about China and other hostile powers, but think about Deep State Paul Ryan for a big honking example. Or doofus Democrat-suckup Mark Cuban. Worse, some of those who talk about Rand (like the Koch brothers did) integrate with libertarianism, but they actively pursue crony corporatism in their business life. They luvs them some big government, wars, etc., even as they bitch about it all and talk freedom. Rand bashed libertarians. She was looking at hippy-adjacent and/or hedonistic libertarians within a social-political context at the time. And, for some reason, she was deathly afraid of people watering down her ideas. In my view, this fear was unfounded since she laid the best groundwork possible, her novels. Regardless, she was prickly to the extreme about anything that mentioned or implied a sanction from her. My favorite people in O-Land use Rand's ideas for self-improvement while they follow their own stars. These people never come for libertarians as a whole, although they might come for this or that libertarian for specific reasons. Michael
