BaalChatzaf
This is a nifty article on how engineers are using the old Apollo F-1 engine as a guide to building the next generation of big rocket engines that will eventually carry a crew to Mars. The young engineers featured in this article tore down an engine that was older than they were (designed a built back in the 60s). The contrast between old techniques and new manufacturing methods is very interesting. Have a look at: http://arstechnica.com/science/2013/04/how-nasa-brought-the-monstrous-f-1-moon-rocket-back-to-life/ It is in three parts but it will be worth your time to read it.
