Critics of Dorothy Klopf (“Are we building a safety net or a safety sofa?” April 21) rightly portrayed her as an advocate of Ayn Rand’s policies, but they haven’t the faintest idea whatsoever of what Rand’s philosophy, Objectivism, is all about. To argue that Rand was in favor of any concept of subsidy, grant, bail out, incentive, tax break or any other concession to corporations or businesses from their cronies in big government is absurd. It is only because of big government that lobbyists and influence peddlers can prosper. As a case in point, read Atlas Shrugged and see how Wesley Mouch, the arch villain lobbyist, is depicted. Better yet, read Rand’s capitalism: The Unknown Ideal. — Paul Hibbert, Santa Fe New Mexican  #
