In terms of its mission, size and capabilities, the first truly modern aircraft carrier thanks to mid-fifties' alterations. That's why it served 47 years. It was built during WWII. Commissioned just after the end of it.

I'd love to see its Montana battleship hull schematics.

Jane's Fighting Ships might have it...I think they are a paid site now...
