Selene
Does this mean that President O'bama has to give back the Nobel Peace Prize and the money that is awarded? The opening paragraph is hilarious... PARIS (Reuters) - The United States says it is "comfortable" it can forge an international coalition to fight Islamic State, but with Western and Middle Eastern allies hesitant, it risks finding itself out on a limb. What in hell is a "...coordinated military plan...?" I am getting a George Carlin moment! So if we call it Post Traumatic Stress Disorder vs. Shell Shock, it doesn't hurt as much? The broad concept of a coalition has been accepted in Western capitals and on Thursday 10 Arab states, including rivals Saudi Arabia and Qatar, signed up to a "coordinated military campaign". France still reeks of colonial stench today: The United States and Britain pulled out of striking Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last year hours before French planes had been due to take off, leaving President Francois Hollande embarrassed and isolated.... That is the idea of a conference in Paris on Sept. 15 that will bring Iraqi authorities together with 15-20 international players. The talks come ahead of a U.N. Security Council ministerial meeting on Sept. 19 and a heads of state meeting at the U.N. General Assembly at the end of the month. "The goal is to coordinate aid, support and action for the unity of Iraq and against this terrorist group," Hollande, the first Western leader to travel to Iraq since Islamic State's advances in June, told reporters in Baghdad on Friday. France has so far sent weapons to Kurdish fighters in Iraq and humanitarian aid. It is likely to send about 250 special forces troops to help direct strikes for Rafale fighter jets. But what it can offer is limited. France's forces are stretched, with more than 5,000 troops in Mali and Central African Republic. Its planned 450 million euros overseas defence budget for 2014 is already over a billion euros, at a time when the government is under severe pressure to cut spending. Britain says sure we are "coalitioning," but we ain't gonna get any of our folks killed. On military action, Britain supports U.S. air strikes and Prime Minister David Cameron has repeatedly said Britain itself has ruled nothing out except combat troops on the ground. Seems like stupid should not have sent that white man's bust back to England. Well at least we can count on the Germans, right? Well, not so much. Most other European countries appear unwilling to go beyond humanitarian and logistical aid. Germany and the Czech Republic have promised to help arm the Kurds. But Berlin has been adamant it will not take part in air strikes. Maybe we should hold this joke of a meeting at Munich and President O'bama can officially surrender. Surely we can count on the Italians... "We have to try to support and sustain the local protagonists who may be able to stop and contain Islamic State in those areas," Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti said. "The Americans have chosen to carry out air strikes. We haven't yet chosen that," she said. Well at least our Arab brothers, who were guaranteed to love America if O'bama became President of the United States are with him. ...the stakes for regional players are higher. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Jordan and Egypt are unlikely to want to take a key role in military operations. "The situation is critical on our border because (Islamic State) are close. Yes, Saudi Arabia is ready to help, but America must first show it is with us now, "said a Saudi Arabian military officer in Paris last week. Turkey, a NATO member which shares long borders with both Syria and Iraq, has so far also conspicuously avoided committing itself to the new military campaign The utter incompetency of this Affirmative Action President can cost us our country. http://news.yahoo.com/u-banks-strong-iraq-coalition-allies-hesitant-090255170.html A... You guys' strong feelings do not turn politics into metaphysics, nor warrant demand for more space on a site already enormously political.Stephen,Fixed.Thanks for pointing this out. I've given up on some sections, but I, too, would like the purely philosophical sections to remain on topic. This isn't the fault of this person or that, though. (Trolls excepted. ) Topic drift and putting things in wrong sections are inherent to forums.I think it's a brain thing. The prefrontal neocortex only processes about four discreet things at the same time. When people want to post something but are preoccupied, overly enthusiastic, or otherwise distracted, and there are many options for posting, they will not be very selective about the details.Michael
moralist
Obama is the quintessential feminized liberal bureaucrat who believes the lie that words are actions... and If he speaks, it is done.Barry has the stench of weakness on him so strong the Islamic fascists can smell it even from the other side of the Earth.Greg
Selene
Michael Goodwin of the NY Post has a devastating column on President O'bama and the reasoning behind that horrendous speech on ISIS. His read is that folks missed the point of President O'bama's "war speech." They miss the point. The disjointed speech wasn’t really about terrorism and launching a new war. It was about saving Obama’s presidency. The columnist clearly summarizes the second term of his Presidency as being: ... a string of disasters, with the toxic brew of his Obamacare lies, middling economic growth and violent global breakdown casting doubt on the president’s stewardship. Six years into his tenure, nothing is going right. It gets better, worth the read. http://nypost.com/2014/09/14/obamas-ship-is-sinking/

Selene
Wolf: You may have to correct that chart... The blast in the Northwest region of Idlib, Syria on Tuesday killed senior members of rebel group the Ahrar-al-Sham brigade (AaS), including leader Hassan Abboud and 45 others including senior members from other rebel alliance groups, reports The Times. The Idlib region stands in AaS territory, but it is close to the front-line with ISIS in neighbouring Aleppo. Sources dispute the source of the blast, with it being unclear whether it was an opposition group, suicide bomber, or accidental explosion at a nearby ammunition dump. Regardless, the incident will destabilise and possibly tear apart the AaS group and associated Islamic Front Coalition which was recently described as "the most powerful armed group in Syria". Islamic group Ahrar-al-Sham, whose name translates as 'The Free Men of Syria', is one of many movements competing in the inter-rebel conflict in Syria. A number of rebel groups are presently fighting each other as well as besieged Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose power base is in West and South-West, for overall control of the Region. As the main rival to ISIS for control of Syria, the AaS blast if not orchestrated by the Islamic State will certainly be greatly beneficial to them. The 'decapitation' strategy, targeting Ahrar-al-Sham’s political, military and spiritual leadership is reminiscent of the United States’ targeted strikes against the leadership of Al-Qaeda. Gee, I wonder who gained by this? Nothing to see here... http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-London/2014/09/11/ISIS-Opposition-Killed-Bomb A... Brant Gaede
The US should simply kill one or two thousand ISIS, collect the bodies for a common grave and throw in a stinking eviscerated pig on top of each, bulldoze them over with dirt and go home. Essentially, that should do it.--Brantno need for more details

In that light all US bombs should be dropped by women. Spanish rule achieved the political unification of almost the whole archipelago, that previously had been composed by independent kingdoms, pushing back south the advancing Islamic forces and creating the first draft of the nation that was to be known as the Philippines. Spain also introduced Christianity, the code of law and the oldest modern Universities in Asia. Islam and Catholics were at war then. Then we made the mistake of winning the Spanish American War of 1898. Treaty of Paris got us the Philippines. The Philippine Revolution against Spain began in August 1896, culminating the establishment of the First Philippine Republic. However, the Treaty of Paris, at the end of the Spanish–American War, transferred control of the Philippines to the United States. This agreement was not recognized by the insurgent First Philippine Republic Government which, on June 2, 1899, proclaimed a Declaration of War against the United States.[10] The Philippine–American War which ensued resulted in massive casualties.[11] Philippine president Emilio Aguinaldo was captured in 1901 and the U.S. government declared the conflict officially over in 1902. Surprise!! That was the easy part of the Philippines insurrection. The real war was with...guess who? Yes, boys and girls...the Muslims!! The Moro Rebellion (1899–1913) was an armed conflict between Moro Indigenous Ethnic groups and the United States military which took place on Mindanao, Sulu, and Palawan (Minsupala) in the Philippines but is unconnected to the Spanish-American War in 1898. The word "Moro" is a term for ethnic Muslims who lived in the Southern Philippines, an area that includes Mindanao Jolo and the neighboring Sulu Archipelago. So, let's see Tripoli, Philippines, World Trade Center 1993 and 2001 ... it almost looks like a pattern. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moro_Rebellion http://www.snopes.com/rumors/pershing.asp Snoops link on Pershing burying dead Moro Muslims in grave and burying their bodies with pigs.
