Ellis Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 My name is Ellis, 23, and currently studying philosophy and physics at SRU. Got into philosophy around 5 years ago when I took an ethics class, and I've been hooked ever since. Also exposed to Rand at that time (my professor had the class read "The Virtue of Selfishness"). Philosophically, I started off as a strange brew between Kant and Locke; but as time passed, I rejected most of Kant, supplanting it with process metaphysics and object oriented ontology coupled with elements from Rand's epistemology and speculative realism. So, yeah, that's where I am at right now.I joined SOLO (ding_an_sich is my name) about two years ago; haven't really gained much from it aside from arguing with Leonid, and even then that proves to oftentimes be a fruitless endeavour.Looking forward to learning a few things and chatting with some new people. Some links on aforementioned philosophical positions (should you be unfamiliar with them):Process Philosophyhttp://plato.stanford.edu/entries/process-philosophy/Object Oriented Ontologyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Object-oriented_ontologySpeculative Realismhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speculative_realismSOLO profile (should you care)http://www.solopassion.com/user/2429
Selene Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Ellis:Welcome to OL. I had not heard of your University. However, the Wiki link was quite enlightening.Looks like a beautiful campus.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_Rock_UniversityA...
caroljane Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 It sure does. Wonder if there are many goats in that part of Penn.? I see that one of your alumni was a boxer. It reminds me of the Brit boxer and entertainer who said, "Boxing led me to philosophy. You bash him and he bashes you and after a while you start to wonder, what's itall for?" You'll find good philosophy on OL with not too much bashing, I hope. Welcome Carol PS You have great taste in music
goblueram Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Michigan loves SRU - they announce Slippery Rock results at our football games, and the crowd gets into it. I think it is a fairly long-standing tradition, too.

Incredible.
BaalChatzaf Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 I will be truthful. I had to look up that college on the web before I believed it existed. Come on! Slippery Rock! Well, stranger things are true.Ba'al Chatzaf
