Michael Stuart Kelly
Beck is Expanding The Blaze TV to CableGlenn is working it. I don't know how many times I have read the liberal media gleefully talk about his demise, but all I see is solid growth.Recently, he renamed GBTV to TheBlaze TV and he started up a radio network. Now, with a paying Internet TV subscriber base of over 300,000, he is expanding it to cable (with a crack team he has hired, I might add). But he will still keep the Internet thing going. He hasn't announced yet what advantages there will be to his internet subscribers, but there definitely will be enticements.Beck Takes His Conservative Internet Shows to the Dish NetworkBy BRIAN STELTERNew York TimesSeptember 12, 2012From the article:One year after embracing an Internet-only distribution model, Mr. Beck is repositioning his streaming network, TheBlaze TV, as an offering for cable and satellite operators — in other words, TV the old-fashioned way.On Wednesday, he will announce an agreement with the Dish Network, the first of what his company hopes will be many such deals.. . .Cutting deals with cable and satellite companies was in the back of Mr. Beck’s mind when he adapted the streaming-movie business model of Netflix for his online network, originally called GBTV. He acknowledged that he was asking a lot of his fans to seek him out online at the outset.Looking back a year later, he said his priority was control: both the “freedom to try new things” from a business standpoint and the flexibility to “do whatever show I wanted when I wanted” and program other shows from a creative standpoint. Online, he has done that. “Over the past year and a half, we have eliminated every disadvantage to being on traditional television,” he said.. . .TheBlaze TV will seek full distribution in America’s roughly 100 million cable and satellite households, Mr. Balfe said in an interview. “We are in active discussions with other operators,” he added. It is an audacious goal given distributors’ reluctance to add channels and given TheBlaze TV’s independent status. But Mr. Beck is a boldface name; he has clout.... . .Along with Mr. Beck’s show, TheBlaze TV also has a nightly panel conversation about the news, a reality show about survivalists, and a show called “Liberty Treehouse” for children — in total, 35 hours of original programming a week.On Monday it added another Fox-esque talk show, “Wilkow!” hosted by the radio host Andrew Wilkow. The network was renamed this year to bring it in line with Mr. Beck’s other media ventures, including a Web site called The Blaze. “We have gone from a company of one voice to a company filled with hosts, writers, producers and editors,” Mr. Beck said.I wonder when I will start reading news from progressive sites like The Huffington Post announcing that Glenn was run off the Internet and came back to regular TV with his tail between his legs...Michael
dennislmay
I subscribed to The Blaze TV Plus on line yesterday. My house it about to be upgraded to fiberoptic Internet. I had intended to wait till then but they had part 1of a documentary last night I wanted to see. I kept the video on low resolution and it ran fine. I didn't wantit to have problems during that show but I will try it at higher resolution after part 2 tonight of the documentary.I was impressed that Beck was able to get so many experts and big names in the documentary. A worldclass documentary as good [or better] as any of the WWI and WWII documentaries the BBC made that airon the Military Channel.I contacted DirecTV to tell them to add The Blaze. I will keep the Internet part regardless so I can watch itwhile traveling - plus it gives you play on demand for things you have missed.Sadly Fox News has been sliding in quality the last few years. If they loose Brit Hume or Jim Angle to retirementthey will be down to Bret Baier, Charles Krauthammer, Steve Hayes and "The Journal Editorial Report" asthe only people/shows worth watching - less useful content than The Blaze.Fox News has worked so hard to be "Fair and Balanced" that there are long stretches of time where socialistsupporters seem to run things - I find myself turning off Fox News more and more when the liberals arerunning things.Dennis
william.scherk
I wonder when I will start reading news from progressive sites like The Huffington Post announcing that Glenn was run off the Internet and came back to regular TV with his tail between his legs. They already imply that. This is from the fiends at HuffPo, "Glenn Beck Returning To TV With Dish Network Deal." I emphasize the snarky undertone:The New York Times was the first to report the deal. The channel will launch at 5 PM on Wednesday, when Beck's eponymous program airs. In a blog post, Chris Balfe, CEO of The Blaze, signaled that the Dish deal will be followed by others, on cable and on satellite. He wrote that a year of Web TV has allowed the company to take the steps needed to return to the terrestrial platform:But now, a year later, everything has changed. Our subscribers' enthusiasm and support has allowed us to make the necessary investments in programming and infrastructure, and we're now in a position to launch a cable and satellite channel without losing control. We have the best staff, the best talent, world-class facilities and great distribution partners lined up, and we've done it all while ensuring that we answer to no one except our own audience. The big question, of course, is whether Beck can replicate the heights of influence he reached with Fox News. He told the Times that, across his various platforms, he is being seen and heard by more people than ever before. More than 300,000 people had subscribed to his Web network as of March, and Beck's radio show is still one of the biggest in the nation. But he has not been able to penetrate popular discourse in the same way he did when he had millions of Fox News viewers -- as well as eagle-eyed "Daily Show" staffers -- watching his every move.In a press release, Beck said, "TheBlaze has helped revolutionize television over the Internet and now we are excited to bring the revolution back to traditional television."I don't know. Sometimes the Progressive railroaders get a few facts right. Glenn is making money and having fun and feeling good about himself -- if he can build a larger national audience on DishTV, cable and satellite, good on him. caroljane
Hey Wullie, you are up early today!I too say good on Beck. As I have noted before on here, the Blaze far surpasses his previous internet platform and radio output (and Fox shows, in my opinion) in journalistic standards, popular appeal and readability. I wish I could say that a lot of his fans who comment there had improved apace.

Michael Stuart Kelly
Carol,I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people who have agendas, both commercial and political, are childish attention hogs and are outright plants in the commenters on The Blaze. When I went to the Restoring Honor rally in Washington, for some reason I couldn't find anyone amomg the approximately half-million attendees who resembled those snarky souls. It was a group of some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. It sure gave me a boost in morale at the time and a different, more hopeful, take on America. I was beginning to feel real homesick for Brazil at the time because of the constant assholishess in American life.Since I saw this with my own eyes, I simply discount the commenters as a necessary evil built into the social media approach to news--with a sporadic ray of sunlight that shines through the murk. (After all, I have commented a few times. ) The commenters do not present a valid profile of Beck's main audience. Notice that The Blaze makes it pretty difficult to consult and research the comments. I think they do this because they feel the same way, but can't say it openly without committing commercial suicide.Michael

Michael Stuart Kelly
I subscribed to The Blaze TV Plus on line yesterday.Dennis,Glenn is doing things no one else is in journalism. And he always says, "Don't believe me. Do your own homework. Look it up and see for yourself. Come to your own conclusions."Anytime a person tells you that, whether Objectivist, progressive, libertarian, religious, atheist, or even Canadian (God help us ), this is a person you can trust on at least one level. This person believes in what he is saying and is trying to present that position in as honest a manner as he knows how. He's not trying to sneak in a hidden meaning with a sugarcoat and diversionary tactics. However, there is one warning I have for you about Glenn. He might get on your nerves a bit. Sometimes he goes a bit deep on the religion thing. Like preaching. But he doesn't stay there. So I don't resent him doing that. It's his station. He's entitled to present what he wants.I just treat it like commercials for Viagra or car insurance on other channels. Which means I usually tune out for a while and do something else or change the channel. But I always come back.btw - The most exciting thing he will be doing, in my opinion, is the American Dreams Lab. His idea is to get the most creative and brilliant out-of-the-box thinkers in America (and from abroad), put them together with some resources and see what happens. Even Ray Kurzweil has called him up and told him to keep up the good work. And I can't think of two people more different than Glenn Beck and Ray Kurzweil.I haven't looked into this too much, yet. I've just caught Glenn's notices in passing. But I bet there will be some kind of tie-in with Singularity University.Michael

It's just I'm a bit gun-shy.When I set up this corner, I had to deal with a lot of crap. Several posters even left. Many of the critics mischaracterized Glenn's views and acted as if he actually were the caraciture the left-wing media presented of him. One, if I remember correctly, said he was merely piddling around with the Founding Fathers because he would not dare touch Thomal Paine. This was said when Glenn Beck's Common Sense: The Case Against an Out-of-Control Government, Inspired by Thomas Paine was still on the bestseller list. So in the back of my mind, resistance to Glenn, irrespective of his message, is a default. That seems to be changing now, so I should also change.Michael

Several posters even left. Many of the critics mischaracterized Glenn's views and acted as if he actually werethe caraciture the left-wing media presented of him.It is sad that 3-4 of the best O'ist posters I've known on various forums overthe years have painted themselves into information corners - unable togather information which should change their world-views except for thebarriers they have erected. Before Beck was on the Internet a few posters refused to watch him on FOXNews. So no matter the documentation there was no discussing what Beckdocumented "in their own words on video" - because they refused theinformation. I gave up on some who got further and further removed fromthe reality of information readily available that they refused to see.A couple other valuable posters were fooled by leftist propoganda back inthe 70's-80's and became incapable of re-examining their assumptions inlight of available information they refuse to process. I am however most disturbed by the socialist disinformation expertstraveling in libertarian circles - those who actively know what they aredoing and those who parrot the propagandists without understandingthe consequences. When it hits the fan information will be hard to come by and thosewho haven't found it yet will likely remain in the corners they painted. That is when the statists win. He played the only card he had to get this deal: during the heyday of The Blaze, he ran a campaign to get his audience (which was huge at the time) to insist The Blaze TV get put on cable channels. He told his audience where to call, who to talk to, what to say and how to do everything. And he pounded this message out over and over. CRTV doesn't have that access and it's hellishly hard to get because of the Cable TV business model (essentially packaging crap with good stuff and insisting on the crap). Beck's campaign cut through that and now he has channel spots he has trouble filling with content, even though his own business started tanking. By making this merger, he finally gets quality programming to use on his channel spots. And CRTV gets instant access to channel spots. From there, it will be easy to branch out into other Cable TV packagers. So it seems like a marriage made in heaven. Except for the fact that Beck thinks he's an Old Testament prophet. If he can keep a lid on that, the entire project should prosper. I wish them well. Michael
william.scherk
Well, this is surprising ... I can't find a trace of Gavin McInnes's CRTV programme "Get Off My Lawn." The last bit of him on site seems to be old Crowder items ... screen recording shows no other trace of his programming. I wonder if Gavin is also hobbled by "company policy"? I knew I should have saved the video of him shoving a butt-plug up his you know what. Some Twitter commentary speculates that The Disappearing of Gavin has something to do with an interview he did with young Laura Loomer. That doesn't make a lot of sense at first glance. The Wrap has a quote from McInnes: Quote According to a banner on his page, McInnes’ channel was “terminated” after the Google-owned video giant “received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement.” Google did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for details on the content McInnes was inappropriately using. The move wipes out more than 200,000 subscribers for McInnes and removed the last major platform for reaching his audience, after Twitter, Facebook and Instagram removed him in recent months. “I have a swarm of Social Justice Warrior bees surrounding me and attacking all my platforms. After Blaze TV, I figured I’d go to YouTube but they got that too. I’ve been 100% deplatformed and can no longer defend myself when people make up lies or take jokes out of context,” McInnis said in a statement obtained by TheWrap. YouTube did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment on McInnes’ ban or the content that was inappropriately used on his channel.
