Mark
The late John Lewis -- the ARI person -- visited Israel in June 2008. Afterward on his TOS blog he gushed over something he saw in a Tel Aviv shopping mall: "a line of life-size mannequins of American soldiers with the host country's flag on their shoulders," and he linked to a page on his website. The page is still there but the picture he was referring to is blank. The caption reads:What Israelis Think of Americans:Entrance to a Shopping Center in Tel Aviv:Models of American Soldiers, with the Israeli Flag on their Soldiers [sic, Shoulders]A "flag on their shoulders" is ambiguous: probably a small flag stitched onto the shirt (a shoulder patch) but it could be a large flag draped over the shoulders like a cape. Can anyone locate a picture of this? (Archive.org is no help for the Lewis picture.)
