The End Game is about to begin: scariest scenario of what is to come!

Still a little time to modify the position of your assets. This does not mention what may become of money you think might be save and accessible if you leave it in a bank account or a retirement account where it might be expropriated for a larger cause.

How are you going to protect your food supply and gold?

Adam,

It depends. The period of difficulty will only last do long and it isn't yet clear what kind of society will emerge on the other side. This calamity will be more global if I understand it correctly as so many countries and their banking systems are interconnected.

America is at a crossroads now with forces at work which are trying to follow the socialist direction under our president and the leftist billionaires and government service unions pulling hard. They will endeavor to spread their representation at all levels of government in the upcoming elections and continue to grow the government.

On the other hand there is the pro market, individualism, limited government contingent struggling to institute free market alternatives and reclaim those areas which the statists have occupied, pun intended.

It remains to be seen which will succeed in being in positions of power and influence once the currencies, including the dollar collapse as well as the banking system.

The bad guys will attempt to use the chaos to increase their hold on power as usual.

I can go without eating for a few months. I have worried recently because the reservoir surrounding my part of town was allowed to drain down in order to make repairs on a dam downstream and I feared lack of water source. But the repairs were made and the reservoir is back up. All I need is a good quality gravity water filter.

I live more in an exurb than a suburb so feel somewhat shielded from roving starving bands of inner city hoodlums.

As I understand it 40 cents of every dollar the federal govt spends each day has to be borrowed. Once no one will loan any money to the govt checks will have to be much smaller to those receiving govt paychecks or welfare payments or disability checks. The States are in worse shape and firemen and police will be hard to find if they aren't getting paid.

So we will each have to befriend our neighbors to protect ourselves and our neighborhoods.

Better make friends with those you wave to as you go to work but never talk to over the years.

There are even worse links than the one at the beginning of this thread. Evidently much of the quadrillion derivatives are at risk once money is in short supply. No telling how long the crisis will go on once the financial collapse comes in the near future. There is going to be a likely hyperinflation in the mix and funds in banks will be inaccessible.

Stock up for at least a few months worth and hope it doesn't happen in the winter.

How can you go without eating for a few months? A healthy person who is not overweight can go about 40 days without food before starvation begins.

Largely a consequence of Atlas Shrugged, I spent most of my adult life expecting the end of the world. I stopped after Y2K. I worked a couple of those projects where COBOL programmers changed dates throughout programs. But what was not fixed was the inventory of industrial controllers, such as those that regulate electricity and natural gas. They did not fail after all. Civilization is robust.

Disasters happen. They always have and always will.

But it is not the end of the world. Reason editor Virginia Postrel wrote The Future and Its Enemies. Her website is called The Dynamist (home page here). She summarizes her book here.

Postrel's newest venture is about fashion. Fashion may seem trivial, hardly the motor that runs the world. Johanna Blakley's TED Talk about fashion reinforces the fact that these markets without intellectual property are 1000 times - 3 orders of magnitude: trillions versus billions of dollars - larger than the protected markets in books, movies, and music... and industrial patents...

You can go to college and get a degree in computer programming. (My wife has four: three associate's and a bachelor's.) Or you can not. The outcome is the same. No law defines what a computer is or who can program one. A couple of weeks ago, I read Man and the Computer by John Kemeny (1975) and blogged about it. He expected regional centers with mainframes to which people with Model 33 teletypes would connect. The book is largely prescient in outlining the value in computerized libraries and publicly-available databases. But even he could not expect what we now enjoy. He wrote about the value in a visiphone for conferencing, but he left out the part where the phone plays music from Pandora and takes pictures. Making the rounds on the WWW a couple of weeks ago was a reposting of Steve Wozniak's 1977 article for Byte describing the Apple II. ...
