anthony Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) It is better that you picture the scene rather than seeing it.A friend e-mailed me a sequence of four photos. The first shows a man sitting in a gutter beside the front of a car.Partially hidden is a boy.The next 3 show the boy, his arm considerately padded, with the wheel and tyre of the car rolling over his arm.Captions explain the 8 year-old was caught stealing bread in Iran. His arm will be useless for life.Never will he trust another human being for life. Who was the man? Who was the photographer? Who was the driver? Who, those ubiquitous, gawking bystanders?Down the passage from me live a family who've just moved in. Abdullah is the man's name, and he's a pleasant young guy whom I chat to in passing sometimes. Obviously wealthy, not that it's relevant. As I was taking in the abomination at my PC, I heard Abdullah's young boy scampering past my apartment, singing while he ran.So, a poor street urchin in Iran - a happy, beloved boy in South Africa. What's the connection?I immediately made the obvious one - of their shared religion - and then realized: There is none. What's the point of this post? The same answer, I suppose. Edited September 27, 2011 by whYNOT
sjw Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 A recent event in Utah. This guy wasn't even stealing food, his "sin" (judged by both the local religion and the thugs who implemented his punishment) is that he was gay:http://qsaltlake.com/2011/08/31/man-attacked-outside-of-salt-lake-city-gay-club/Shayne
Selene Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) "...his jawbone was broken in three places as a result of the attack."This is the prior person, was there any description of that attack, or any arrests?“'The doctors say I was lucky no bones are broken. But my collar bone is really bruised, probably from being kicked on the ground, and my wrist is sprained and my face is just really messed up,' Corona said.""The assailants were described by Hall as light-skinned and wearing red." <<<<which means??Has the Mormon Church or any other religious entity offered any help?Adam Edited September 27, 2011 by Selene
sjw Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Has the Mormon Church or any other religious entity offered any help?AdamIt's not in their nature to take any responsibility for their ideas, they just do what they feel their God tells them to do. Whenever the Mormon missionaries come by, I remind them that they each, individually, are responsible for the ideas they have come to accept. Nothing scares them away faster than that. In essence, what they are looking for is someone else to blame for their sins.Shayne
sjw Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 So, why does George H. Smith get to edit his posts without having that annoying little "edited by" tacked on?Shayne - Just an uppity peon.
Michael Stuart Kelly Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 So, why does George H. Smith get to edit his posts without having that annoying little "edited by" tacked on?Shayne,Not a biggie. In one of the previous upgrades a couple of years ago, the software undid the general programming and half the people got this and the other half did not. (Go figure.)I can take it off. I generally do when I have to clean up someone's post for whatever reason and it is present.I just took it off of the post you edited. It should stay off all your posts from now on.I suppose one day I could go to the Administrator's Dashboard, futz around and see if I can find some kind of overall command and just eliminate this thing for everyone. This is not a priority right now, though. You wouldn't believe the amount of stuff you have to look at to find something.Michael

I'm all the time fixing typos and spellings, small stuff like that. The editing is seldom substantial.--Brant
sjw Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I just took it off of the post you edited. It should stay off all your posts from now on.Cool, thanks!Shayne- I feel like royalty now.Did it work?Arg. I think the "xyz edited" makes sense for people who demonstrate egregiously bad faith in debate, I don't think that holds for most OL posters.
Michael Stuart Kelly Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (sigh)Looks like they changed the rules again. Used to be that you removed it once, and the change stood for all future posts. Now it looks like it is only for the single post.I'll get to this later.Michael
sjw Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) Damn programmers, always making everything so difficult.Shayne- Oh wait, I'm a programmer... (double entendre) Edited September 27, 2011 by sjw
Michael Stuart Kelly Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I was just bopping around my control panel and found an option to allow all members to include or exclude the "edited by" comment at will. So I set it to yes.Let's hope it works now.Michael
